  • On the topic of good pokemon liberation stuff! kintsugi’s come out with an excellent poke-centric N revolution fic. (All the POVs are pokemon and it is the good shit.) Takes some inspiration from Negrek’s Decoherence and my Let It Ring. I feel like this crowd would enjoy it!

Summary – “Pokémon never tell lies,” N said outside of Mistralton,…[Read more]

Wow, thanks for sharing. I got completely spammed with those ‘Down with critics united reviews’ back in 2018 and now I can finally do something about it.

Kind of crazy that ffnet is this easy to manipulate though.

[I mean…you understand that corpses are very unchaotic, right? Living things involve a degree of change.]

Reminds me of how in Terry Pratchett’s Discworld books, the Auditors of Reality are always trying to end humanity, because we make things messy and disordered.

Kali, Star Destroyer, and the Lily of Death (part 3)

“T-chik-aaa!” The ground erupted under her and Kali was thrown into the air. She squirmed from side to side, trying to get free, but horrible plastic netting blocked her on all sides.

“Hey, we’ve got a hit! Oh damn, it’s just a torchic.”

“Hang on, torchic don’t come wild around here.…[Read more]

Kali, Star-Destroyer, and the Lily of Death (part 2)

Kali, Star-Destroyer, was having a miserable day. It had been a project of many months to get the loud-mouthed human to keep his hands to himself. But in the last hour she had been poked, prodded, and squeezed to her limit, until at last the human girl had set her down on the ground and…[Read more]

[Super assassin girl who’s killed hundreds just wants to go on a walkabout with some L5 fluffball. Her family sends wave upon wave of ninjas after her to force her back into the family business and she has to fight them off with her 1337 skillz and many throwing knives in time to get to her first gym battle!]

  • Hm, the text-box seems to work fine on Chrome. Still non-functional on Mozilla, though.

  • The Literary Witches book sounds really interesting! I find teratology stuff fascinating, so to see that applied to female authorship sounds awesome. Plus I love Agatha Christie.

Your concluding paragraphs really spoke to me:

“I believe with a deep conviction that the stories we tell each other matter. They are not just a reflection of who…[Read more]

Glad you’re keeping up this tradition! I’ve been squirreling a few fics away for January in anticipation.

Also, if anyone’s looking for a good Pokemon story to dig into, let me recommend Spring by OldSchoolJohto. It’s very well-written, with solid world-building and interesting exploration of pre-modern Johtoan religion and customs, mixed with…[Read more]

Kill la kill was a weird anime to watch, because as you said, it’s all semi-pornographic/exploitative, but the actual story is about female characters, from the perspective of female characters, and the relationships between them feel really genuine. And I always felt the anime had a point to make, but it’s so bizarre and out-there that I could…[Read more]

  • Sure. Are you just going to post it in the comments?

  • “though she can get purple at times”

    Well, her pen-name is purple-drake

  • Lance is another character who has a totally different look and personality between mediums. There’s a Lance fic I love that explores this, and the author’s note sums it up:

This story is about Lance, and looks at the differences between anime-Lance and manga-Lance. In the anime he’s got pink hair and he’s pretty much the poster-boy for being a…[Read more]

  • So I woke up to hundreds of these “down with critics united” spam reviews on three of my stories . . .

Does anyone have suggestions on how to deal with this? Should I individually report each review, or try to report the sock-puppets?

It’s really unpleasant to see this. I know people have joked about padding review counters, but these…[Read more]

  • I’d even written up a review explaining that the line totally turned me off the story, and then — I just didn’t have the energy. To post the review, to get yelled at in the comments, to deal with the author potentially being upset.

And now from the author’s response to St Elmo’s review, I see that I probably would have been doing them a…[Read more]

  • That Tapu Lele story . . . I had read it earlier, but noped out when I saw the ‘OMG I have boobs’ lines. It was too bad, because I had been appreciating the more competent than the norm scene setting. But a line like that took me totally out of the story. Why would a legendary pokemon know or care anything about human breasts? It just doesn’t make sense.

  • I’m sorry to hear what you’re going through and I hope everything goes well medically.

This blog you’ve helped create and run is a really wonderful place, a model of civility and analysis, that’s always been there for me when I need a bit of sanity or biting critique in my day, and I really appreciate everything you’ve done to make the blog…[Read more]

I’ve only read the first three volumes of Saga, and that was a while back, but I remembering enjoying them. I definately felt that the comic was making a conscious effort to break out of gender roles with the main couple, which was refreshing. Also, the premise, of space opera but with the focus on a family, isn’t one I’ve run into before and I…[Read more]
