So instead of, “Oh, I don’t like this, your fic is bad and you should feel bad”, why not try, “Your fanfiction seems to be lacking a bit. Here are some ways you could fix that, if you’d take them into consideration?” But then again, it’s all your choice. I don’t know if you’re being deliberately cruel or if I’m biased because I had to console some of my friends. But I don’t understand why anyone would choose to be rude to anyone. Thank you, and have a great day! 3 |

Look, if I write, I write, but the last thing I honestly need is someone sending me a review complaining about a few misspelled words. I’m not the best writer, and I probably never will be, but you know what? I’m just having fun. No one ever said you had to complain about writing or spelling. If you read something, just read it. Don’t waist your time and my time by sending me some glob of words on how I messed up a few words or dialog. It’s not my fault you’re a major Grammar Nazi. |
One of the things I find comes up often is the idea that the wording needs to be different. This seems reasonable the first time it happens. But before long you notice that the only point of agreement is that whatever was said was the wrong thing. People will suggest rewording it in ways that are identical or more insulting rather than less. Long explanations of why will be met with complaints I didn’t just list the correction, as here, while when I’m brief, people tell me that’s where I went wrong and I should have been more focused on explaining why I had a problem.
What it ultimately boils down to seems to be that people get upset after reading what I say, and then assume any other option must be inherently less upsetting because it’s not the thing that just upset them but a hypothetical. Brains sure are weird.

Thank you for the… copious amount of input. I sort of work under the assumption that most people who actually read OC fics on this site don’t actually… well, look for flaws because they know that no matter what the character isn’t going to be perfect. I actually wrote the first two chapters… pfft… two years ago on a whim. It was the third on where I actually realized that I one, was not giving her enough personality, and two, was neglecting to give her any real weaknesses. I am not kidding, I don’t like the first two chapters. They are unnecessarily wordy and full of incorrect characterization. I will work on this chapter. I can fix lots of the things you’ve mentioned, but some of it I couldn’t possibly screw with unless I planned on re-writing the entire thing, which is something I don’t think I’ll be doing anytime soon. I may re-write a few paragraphs of it, but that’s it. I do think that this needs a bit of an overhaul. |

Let me state that I was only recently getting into Homestuck when I wrote this. I would’ve written this much differently if I had done so say, yesterday. I am flattered that you’ve taken the time to review my chapters so thoroughly. Not many people do that, and when they do, it’s often taken negatively by the ones receiving such critical reviews. There is a reason for the large difference in quality you’ve probably noticed. These first chapters were written in a few hours, whereas chapter three I wrote over the course of several weeks and drafted it, as well. That’s not an excuse, I know. The problem was infection. That was why Resilient Caretaker was needed. Don’t… don’t question it. Please. Chapter two was such a clusterfuck I can’t… I’m not touching this with a fifty foot pole. It’s needed transition. I always thought the name “Reformed Combatant” was vague enough to not be much of a spoiler. She likely will not be “reforming” the way you think she will be. Thank you for your reviews. |

Ohhhhhh the ideas you just put into my head… you are a beautiful person. I had not thought of that and now I am thinking of that and I love it. Ha. Haha. So you’re basically saying he’s /too/ gentle and /too/ civilized about this? Ah, time to dig into the more depraved parts of my brain… haven’t been there in a while, was kind of trying to say away from it, but now you’ve put this in my mind and it’s not going to go away. I will have to outline RC’s oddities better, because you think fidelity is a thing that she has. Ah, yes. Her face. I decided that my mental image of it was too pretty. So I had Jack break it. Just… imagining the /sound/ that must have made… But I digress. Thank you. Because of this particular review, the plans for this story are much more clear in my mind |
