Wow, okay. Last time I checked, no one hated on headcanons, but I guess you’re a breed of your own, huh. |

I appreciate your honesty and I’m glad you took the time to do this. I know I have a lot to work on and it’s hard to get decent critique. Thanks for pointing out incongruent-with-canon stuff, too. It’s been a long time since I’ve read the comic in its entirety and this is proof I need another read-through! Have a nice day. :D |

Thank you for your review! That is a very good point! Consider this: If you had not gone through the same life experiences, would you be a different person? Or act differently? The answer should be yes! The background stories of the characters bare little to no resemblance to the actual story of Homestuck. Also, this is them as if they were nearing their twenties. This is my take on their personalities if they were to be in a completely different universe, as in they have different experiences contrary to what they experienced in playing Sburb. For example, Karkat is not an alien, he did not create humans through ectobilogy*. This, my take on a human version of him is someone who is less dominating, less controlling with a lower ego and anger. Why? Because when he was in Highschool he wanted to be a hacker, as he did in Homestuck. After dating Sollux he realized that it was after all a stupid idea, thus changing his personality. If I had the characters exactly the same, it would not be truthful to their fabricated back stories. I took a very light sample of their true canon personalities. I also know that canon Karkat and Gamzee are morails, as are Dave and John. [Also I severely fucked up slick, but you know, no one’s this far? ^^; ] So yes, the characters are OOC, but they are canon to what situation I have put them in. If i was to write a Sburb fanfic, then they would be much more canon. [Hopefully] But I really love AU’s, because people love reading AUs and it is an easy way to write something semi-original and get feedback for it. [As I am writing an original book] Thanks again for your feedback! It really helps when writing. If you have anything else that you didn’t or did like about the story, feel free to say! -Ren |
I hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate how fandom treats moirails. Even more than I hate people who are writing their own characters but saying it’s just AU.

did you seriously read my entire fanfic just to point out the flaws and bash me about it?! I reviewed to point out flaws. |
One of the nice things about my slower pace is I’m responding to most of the PMs. The degree to which this is a good idea varies.

Hello! Thank you for this long review c: I’m sorry you find my fanfiction this bad, it is my first time writing Homestuck fanfic and from Karkat’s POV. I do realize what lusus he was raised from, but for the sake of the story and because it’s my own alternate version of Homestuck, he was raised by such a mom (and a father, by the way, who probably fits more of the crabdad role, you just never got to see him). Oh yeah, I also never said his mom hit him? Again, thanks for taking some time to write this nice, lengthy review for me! I’ll get to your other sections in just a bit. |

So, for the first bit, Karkat off course is not all-knowing so he’s not exactly sure what’s going on. He thinks at first there MIGHT be a slight possibility of them actually picking him, but once he sees the look on his mother’s face he thinks she’s up to something. The announcement was for the student, the parent was sent an email ahead of time to make sure they had permission and forms were filled out, yadda-yadda. Oh, okay! That’s a good idea, thanks for the suggestion ^.^ I’ll see if I can edit it and work that in there, if you don’t mind. Thank you! |

The point was that Mr. Egbert is just kind of weird, he doesn’t know the kids from Adam but he just leaves fatherly notes anyways. It is also a thing to say what all is in the packet, so if he is writing them a little note about it, why not make it this weird fatherly “proud” deal-y thing? But I apologize if you don’t think that was thought out/executed correctly. They do all have the same classes, but they stuck in a schedule to ensure they know their classes. This school is more like a weird joke, because Hussie is really odd and definitely not principal type. Also, if you couldn’t tell, Karkat was more being antisocial and he was in “bell rang, get as fast as I can out of this stupid homeroom” so he didn’t stop and wait for any kids to begin to ask anything or find out themselves. How do you know? In the case of this odd, more-on-the-eccentric-side school, yes, the huge building is indeed the art class. It’s just one huge-ass classroom. Once again, thank you very much for taking this time to review my story, and I’m sorry you found so many negative things in it! |

Thank you for providing a review, and one filled with constructive criticism at that! I realize that my concept is flawed, however, this entire fic has been stagnating in my hard-drive and that of my laptop for ages. I really do see how the poem is useless; the grammar was a decision, and as to explain my awful, flawed logic, this was produced before much of what we know about Prospit and Derse was made public, and many things were hastily shoehorned into it. There was no knowledge of sessions other than that of the trolls and beta kids when I began this. However, the reason I wrote the Prospitans and Dersites as being neutral was because of the concept later introduced of just and heroic deaths, and the existing history of WV’s military career, particularly the aspect of it having been brought on by rivalry-induced destruction rather than nationalistic pride. Once more, thank you mightily for providing valuable insight into how I might improve the general (poor) quality of my work! |
“Rivalry-induced destruction” what the…
I think they might be saying that WV was a soldier but only because Prospit destroyed his stuff first? This was not a good day for coherent PMs in general.
Yeah, I kind of figured, and now I am just sort of boggling at how that could possibly be what anyone got out of that. Exile fandom has really opened my eyes: I never before knew there was a level of illiteracy in which one cannot read simple wordless comics.
what’s headcanon? And are you only doing homestuck fics this month?
Headcanon has two similar but not identical meanings.
The original meaning of headcanon is a particular idea a person had about an empty area of canon. Ie, if a character’s parents aren’t revealed, someone might have the headcanon that they’re Orthodox Jews, because they think the character seems like someone raised by people like that. “My headcanon is that WV started off a soldier and deserted to farm.”
The newer meaning of headcanon that’s more common in Homestuck fandom is stuff they pulled out of their ass regardless of what canon says. “My headcanon is that the trolls are nineteen except for a couple who are sixteen.” “My headcanon is that carapaces can’t talk and communicate by pheremones and morse code.” “My headcanon is that the Black Queen is a powerless figurehead whose only job is to drain the royal coffers on shopping trips.”
And yes, this month is Homestuck only. Pokemon is January.
