I love the description of all of this, particularly how he describes her. And the ending is perfect.
Great job with the worldbuilding.
My only really quibble with this one is that it’s hard to believe someone raised by a cat lusus would be outright filthy. Cats are less scrupulously clean than their press would have you believe, but they tend to at least get the blood off regularly.
You write Condesc quite well, creepy and utterly self-centered.
I liked the details of how things work in the fleet, and found the way you write the pairing convincing.

She could still turn around, points out the little voice of reason in the back of her head. It sounds like her mother. She hasn’t promised anyone anything. She could go find an easier job to take on, or for that matter she could find a nice young man and settle down. Sometimes Greir thinks that if her inner voice of reason didn’t sound like her mother, it would be much easier to listen to.
Everything about the narration, and particularly this, is wonderful.
The pteromantis sounds perfectly cute/horrible, and this is a nice little slice of life.
