Pokemon Black 2, Day Seven

Hey, talk about something cool!

I’ve been getting the animated sprites from http://sprites.pokecheck.org/?gen=5& The parent site, http://www.pokecheck.org/, allows people to download pokemon. Quite enamored with shiny snivy, particularly its final evolution, I try downloading one and it works!

So now I can get all the shinies I want without fussing about finding a code, and with perfect IVs and natures. Highly recommended.

(Shiny tepig line is even more lovely.)

Okay, so let’s keep going now.

Hey! That gleaming thing there is the Basic Badge!

How can you see it when it’s inside a case?

But, don’t get a swelled head! It’s a rough world out there! Here, I’ll show you!

Arg. Game. Game. It’s one thing for my longterm rival or such to be a dickhead. I’m going to be chasing someone like that through the game, beating them time after time. They’ll ultimately prove to be a powerful trainer in their own right, only for me to prove I’m even better when I take them out in the final battle.

It’s another thing entirely for some random character to just be stupid and condescending at me. Arrogant people are satisfying to beat. They make you feel you’ve accomplished something. People who treat you like you’re nothing…it’s really not a similar feeling. Beating him doesn’t show that I’m great. It just shows that people assume I’m not.

When I win, the guy says he realizes he was conceited, which doesn’t actually do anything about the problem that I don’t want conceited people calling the shots in my game, and says with pokemon like that I can beat an adult, because god forbid the condescension stop.

Next, a preschooler challenges me.

Farla! Wait!

I’m like three steps away from dark grass and new pokemon. What? If it’s explaining dark grass, I have a new top of my dragon list.

It’s Cheren and Gary…?

Cheren: Come with me, you two.

He’s fucking explaining the grass. WHAT DID I JUST SAY, CHEREN?

See the dark tall grass here? It’s rare, but sometimes two Pokemon pop out at the same time. Also, the Pokemon that hide in dark grass are slightly stronger. So be careful if you walk through.
If you’re going to challenge the next Gym, it’s the Virbank Gym. These might help!

And I get pecha berries?

He says do our best and call him.

Gary: Cheren sure knows a lot.

Oh, and you’ll be second now.

And he fought those Team Plasma thugs, too…

Fucking killstealer. Forgot about that. Yeah, he’s usurped the prime spot from Douchy.

I’ve decided! I’m going to get stronger than him! You should… Do your best! Fill up the Pokedex and have my back. Got it?

He runs into the tall dark grass, fails to notice an item lying in it.

Venipede.

Using the feelers on its head and tail, it picks up vibrations in the air to determine its prey’s location and state.

Ooh, and grass. Audino.

Photobucket

Using the feelers on its ears, it can tell how someone is feeling or when an egg might hatch.

Huh, that’s oddly similar.

I’ve been meaning to try raising one. I didn’t last time due to it not evolving. And I like the shiny form, so I’ll download that one.

Gender roles start early, I see.

Nursery aide has pants!

Photobucket

Stereotypical role, but pants!

Twins don’t, though.

Person gives me greatballs.

Trying to walk into next town…

Hi! It’s your mom! Where are you right now? Wow, Virbank City! There’s a complex there, right? Have you been there yet? The way it looks at night is really quite nice! And you can also train your Pokemon there! You know, your Pokemon can do some things and you can do others. I hope you can all work together and accomplish amazing things!

Okay, so can I go now? Ooh, sign!

This is Virbank City! City of falling fog and rising stars!

I guess this is what happens when you have to write so many town descriptions.

And…now there’s some whitehair person with what looks like black butterfly wings on their back? Maybe it’s a kimono bow? And someone else in a sailor hat, so I guess the Team Plasma person earlier was supposed to look nautical?

???: Roxie, don’t try to stop me! I’m off to Pokestar Studios to live up to my true potential! My dream is to be a ship captain and a movie star!

Okay, look. Quirky for quirky’s sake is just idiot madlibs.

Roxie: Get real! You’re a captain already, aren’t you? If that ship doesn’t move, you’re going to cause lots of trouble!
Captain: Oh, dear daughter. You split your time between your responsibilities as a Gym Leader and with your band, right? I can do that, too!
And she runs off.

Roxie: AAAAAAH! You dim-witted…dense…dumb…daft…dippy….dorky…doltish DOOFUS!

Are you five?

Doing double duty isn’t the problem! You’re causing problems for people! Keeping people from getting where they’re going because of sheer selfishness is unforgivable! I’ve HAD it! I’m going to the Gym!

Okay, so anyway. Going to the complex.

Magnemite! You know, I’ve never raised one of them. Still pissed off it doesn’t get levitate, though.

Photobucket

The electromagnetic waves emitted by the units at the sides of its head expel antigravity, which allows it to float.

It’s like Nintendo’s just mocking me.

Exploring the town, some guy says: Roxie’s poison is intense! It sings, stings, and stiiiings! But, know what I did? I caught a Magnemite in the complex, and I was just fine! And I get pokeballs. Well, that’s useful without being quite so contrived.

Inside the place is apparently the gym. And I get fresh water for walking in.

Another place is some kindergarten. Children teach me many things, so they are my teachers. Pokemon are your teachers! Nintendo, kids and adults aren’t equals. I don’t think you’ve thought this metaphor though.

And outside there’s an antidote in the trash. Furthering the point, I’m totally fine using medicine I found thrown out in the garbage on my pokemon. Do they object? No idea.

If I didn’t have Pokemon, all of the work at the complex would make me a wreck! I bet your pokemon aren’t getting paid like you are, though.

Down further, some guy wants me to fight workers to get them fired up. Guy, I don’t need reasons to fight people.

You can walk on the pipes!

Ooh, I got a thief TM. …and none of my pokemon can learn it.

Mareep evolves! Now I’ve got a flaaffy, and isn’t that an odd name.

Photobucket

Not even downy wool will grow on its rubbery, nonconductive patches of skin that prevent electric shock.

I’ve always found the mareep/flaaffy connection interesting. You keep mareep and boost their wool quantity with electricity, but too much electricity and the mareep start growing a rubbery skin that won’t produce any wool at all.

Ah, and there’s the dark grass. Magby and koffing! I can only catch one, so…

Photobucket

It’s small, but its body temperature is over 1,100 degrees F. Embers escape its mouth when it breathes.

It’s also insanely hard to catch, I had to whittle it down to almost nothing and paralyze it and it still kept breaking out of the pokeball. In other news, my azurill keeps fainting, so that’s going to be staying on my team forever it looks like.

Also, there’s some guy talking about oil towers and then he ran away.

Ooh, a growlithe just popped out of the regular grass. Two levels higher and yet it goes right into the pokeball without a fuss. Good boy.

Photobucket

Extremely loyal to its Trainer, it will bark at those who approach the Trainer unexpectedly and run them out of town.

Ookay! See, this is why I don’t like dogs, I don’t want something to attack people under the impression it’s what I want.

And now finally koffing. You know, I thought magby would be the rare one, but I was wrong.

Photobucket

Toxic gas is held within its thin, balloon-shaped body, so it can cause massive explosions.

And beating all the trainers gets me rock smash, which is another meh.
