Pokemon Omega Ruby Day 14

Last time, a lower-case professor was professornapped. As fandom has explained, the upper case is necessary for anyone to view those involved as people, so he must not be a people. Who cares what happens to him in that case?

I try talking to Not-Cozmo woman to see if she has anything to say and it’s just “go find the lowercase thing”. You’re not the boss of me, I’m going to go talk to everybody!

In the pokemon center, one person says, I wonder what Pokemon looked like long, long ago. Maybe the Fossil Maniac at the edge of town will know. But not, like, books. Information is privately acquired and only shared in person.

There’s also an old guy who says, In the fields of Fallarbor, we plant seedlings of hardy trees that thrive even in volcanic ash. Okay so first off they really don’t look like they’re “thriving” and second volcanic ash is great soil, the problem is the lack of sun. No wonder your fields are so barren while there’s plenty of trees just beyond, you’re a pack of idiots.

Yet another contest building. It has people talking about Lisia and Ali (and the whole spectacular talent thing, as if they don’t expect the player to have seen that yet) and another person comments on how contests get harder as you move up in the ranks. I wonder if having all ranks take place in a single building was a late change and originally you were supposed to encounter Lisia at each building.

See! Take a look! This is my precious Marill! It’s slick and smooth and plushy! If you, too, have a Marill with you, you can pet its slick and smooth and plushy fur as much as you want!

Can’t help but feel this is just mocking me and my inability to keep my pokemon out. Damn you, NPC.

Someone also reminds me that Flannery is the daughter of some more awesome guy trainer. You notice how you never see the reverse in stories.

Off to the fossil guy. Next to his house is a pool of water, so I try fishing. The game bugs out – the scenery is forest, but the magikarp’s spot is water. I thought it was due to the fact I presumably pulled it onto land, but then when I send out Tryke his area also turns into water. What’s with this?

Anyway I catch her and now I have Shirou Emiya the second.

I head in. For some reason, I can’t use the silly headband of itemfinding inside the cave. The guy tells me nothing interesting about ancient pokemon, and so I leave.

I pass the guy with the poochyena who Lucki would loan Flare if it was an option.

Swablu! I was traded one earlier, but let’s get the data now.

Swablu has light and fluffy wings that are like cottony clouds. This Pokemon is not frightened of people. It lands on the heads of people and sits there like a cotton-fluff hat.

That’s adorable. Also adorable is how you can see them flying overhead.

Hidden pokemon keep appearing on the scanner but they’re really hard to find.

On to Lanette.

Oh! Lucki! I’m sorry everything is so cluttered. When I get engrossed in research, things end up this way. This is embarrassing–please keep this a secret in exchange for this.

And now I have a seedot doll. Kay.

She then unlocks better box organization.

And Tryke’s evolving!

So beautiful…

Regular one looks like  for comparison. Fond of bright colors, but my doesn’t Tryke look badass? He’s really earned his name change.

Manectric is constantly discharging electricity from its mane. The sparks sometimes ignite forest fires. When it enters a battle, this Pokemon creates thunderclouds.

And now nuzleaf’s here. And I have that extra leaf stone…

Nuzleaf live in densely overgrown forests. They occasionally venture out of the forest to startle people. This Pokemon dislikes having its long nose pinched.

And the reason this one is living in open fields next to totally barren land is…?

Anyway, time to head back. Tryke can be tabled for now and I’ll try raising my surskit a bit. I’m pretty sure it evolves soon.

Shiftry is a mysterious Pokemon that is said to live atop towering trees dating back over a thousand years. It creates terrific windstorms with the fans it holds.

My loudred leveled and just tried to learn uproar again. What part of no confused you so much?

Ah, and now my surskit is evolving. Just in time, it was dying to pretty much every trainer. And so it stops being the interesting bug/water type and becomes yet another bug/flying.

Masquerain intimidates enemies with the eyelike patterns on its antennas. This Pokemon flaps its four wings to freely fly in any direction–even sideways and backwards–as if it were a helicopter.

The animated sprite is actually really helpful here – I never got that those prominate wingshaped things weren’t wings until I saw them contrasted with the rapidly fluttering actual wings. That makes it a lot more interesting to me.

Also, my 3DS is out of battery yet again so we’ll call it a day here.

Shirou Emiya the second? I can’t really think of anything to do with Shirou Emiya the second. Like you can make him fight Archer, somehow, but there isn’t really an option for Archer to have his faith in the world renewed and hold back at the last second to let himself lose versus the vainly Struggling Shirou. He’ll just obliterate Shirou II in like one turn.

    1. Goldreaver says:

Send him into an alternate dimension and have him thrown in jail for a few years. That’ll rough him up.

      1. Roarke says:

That dimension’s Shirou made no fucking sense, but yesss.

    2. illhousen says:

Obviously, Shirou the second should start hopeless fights only for Archer to come to the resque and finish them.

Alternatively, Farla may want to wait for the HF readthrough to progress enough to map Shirou the second’s personality.

Thought you might be amused to hear that I nabbed a shiny electrike today. It’s for my roommate, whose pokemon all have food-themed names, so it’s called Vanilla rather than Lady-Tryke or something, but still. It’s super pretty in the flesh.
