You know, I’m really enjoying the power plant. This also brings to mind Digimon World, but more positively. It’s similar in its futuristic aesthetic – it’s just very different, without going overboard on the threat. Also, you can hear the footsteps when you’re walking on the metal grating!
Okay, I’ve reached the center. There’s someone in a red skirt and another one with a white cueball like head.
DocScatch: How much longer?
Red: If you’re just interested in the facts, I’d say we already have enough energy to power the device.
DocScratch: Good. Let’s finish up here and move out. There’s still more work to be done.
Red: What work do you mean? She turns to see me. Perhaps you mean taking out that annoying little Pokemon Trainer over there?
DocScratch: What’s this? I didn’t think anyone remained here after we dealt with the workers.
Battle! L36 houndoom.
If my analysis is correct–and it always is–this battle is 100 percent a failure on my part.
Try having other pokemon.
Then he honestly takes several steps backward in terror. Yes! That’s what I want from the game.
Scientist, take care of this pesky intruder!
Red: Ah ha ha! It would be my pleasure! Come on, little Trainer! Let’s see what you’ve got!
…but then she waits for me to heal my pokemon or whatever else I want. For a brief moment, I thought the game was actually going to make me battle two in a row. But no.
Allow me to introduce myself, intruder. My name is Aliana. As you can see, I’m one of Team Flare’s Scientists. I’m researching a certain something that you wouldn’t understand, anyway. Unfortunately for you, I’ve been charged with the simple task of your elimination. And battle! She has something weird over her eyes.
L38 mightyena! Who was actually somewhat of a threat until it decided to spend its time roaring and making scary faces.
Ah ha ha! Well, I certainly didn’t expect you to be so interesting! I do hope we can meet again! And my vision goes out and they’ve absconded.
Then Skirt and Trousers appear, now with gendered giant scarfs. And ditto with the masks, apparently.
You chased off that mysterious bunch before we could even get here?
Well, actually it seems they were going anyway. That does kind of undercut my victory, doesn’t it?
Well, I guess there’s always room for more defenders of Kalos! Let me heal your Pokemon as thanks! You and your Pokemon are the ultimate team! No doubt about it! But don’t push yourself too hard. Here. Take these.
And now I’ve got full restores.
Thanks to you, the power is back on in Lumiose City. Now people can pass through the gate connecting Route 13 to Lumiose City again. Well, I think us mysterious people will be off now!
Am I not supposed to recognize them? Is that it?
I leave before being left. I decide. Au revoir!
Okay then. Let’s go find out what my rescuees feel about this.
I knew you’d save us! I never doubted you for a moment! And he coughs up a flame charge HM. Thanks, loser!
Scientist lady gives me a magnet.
Scientist guy just gives similar science talk, but now without lamenting Team Flare taking it over: Space-based photovoltaic power generation! It’s not as complicated as it sounds! We have an operation in outer space that gathers energy from the sun and beams it down here in the form of microwaves and electromagnetic waves. We’ve got the Pokemon called Porygon helping with our outer-space operation. So that’s the pokemon who’s involved.
Right now, time to go see the rest of the city and then buy some cool outfits!
And…there’s some grungy person.
The Pokemon… The flower Pokemon… The Pokemon that was given eternal life… And they walk off.
Graveler.
With a free and uncaring attitude, it doesn’t mind if pieces break off while it rolls down mountains.
So do I need to breed for geodude, then?
I’ve just found my second rare candy. They’re thin on the ground, aren’t they?
Talking to people in the connecting area: I heard that Clemont was running all about, doing whatever he could to make up for the lack of electricity. So that’s the gym leader presumably.
Lady S! And a musical note. See, they don’t need color coded boxes at all.
I ran like crazy when I spotted you up ahead! Know what? I heard the power’s back on here in Lumiose City! Some really bad people were stealing electricity from the Kalos Power Plant…and then somebody came and stopped ’em! No one knows who, but they must be awesome! Who do you think it was?
And I have a choice of taking credit or not. Weird. I mean, it’s not even that humble, since it involves lying to my new friend. The only reason to pick the other seems to be the implication from the two mask-wearers that being known as a defender of Kalos may be unsafe.
Whoa! NO WAY! You, Lady S?!
I wonder what else she says if you lie.
And get this! They’re gonna light the tower! Let’s go see it, Lady S! It’s Lumiose City’s most famous sight! This way! Straight ahead you’ll run smack into Prism Tower! Music note.
So I walk along near the aqueduct, and some hiker guy just standing there is saying People in Kalos kiss each other on the cheek to say hello or good-bye. Even if they just met!
Yeah you try that on Serena you’re getting a firefox to the face.
Then a Team Flare woman. This flaming-red cafe is perfect for hot young stars like us. We really bloom when we’re having lively debates about how to make a better tomorrow. So bitter… So dark… That’s doing it right! Expresso is the oil that keeps our gears running smoothly!
You are weirdos.
The side paths are blocked off by construction guys claiming the blackout is still in effect. Also, there’s a pokecenter, so I guess this place has two. That actually makes sense – given even small places warrant one, a huge city could support two. Inside, there’s a mention of Team Plasma, but also of Gary!
I’ve heard the Monsieur Lysandre runs a cafe about his research lab. Which is presumably the cafe the grunt was talking about. Is that around?
It is! The employee just notes I lack a suit. Am I going to get a suit to infiltrate this place? Because that’d be awesome. There’s no customers and it’s all ominous and red.
Well, to the Eiffel Prism Tower.
Good timing! Music note. They’re just about to turn on the lights! Look! It’s Clemont! He’s Lumiose City’s Gym Leader! He’s also good at inventing things, and he makes all kinds of devices! Those two are my friends!
And we switch to a closer view of the two blond people. Blonde girl says yellowly, Aren’t you done yet? and blond engineer suit Clemont-person says just as yellowly, Not quite… I just have to check on the lighting circuit here.
Little girl notices us. Oh, Shauna! And you are…a challenger? Sorry, but could you wait a moment? C’mon, Clemont!
And Clemont treats us to a spiky yellow box: All right! Everything’s ready! The future is now, thanks to science! Prism Tower lighting system…ACTIVATE!
And it does. Also, apparently it’s the gym.
I think you call this feeling being “entranced,” right? Now, I have another great memory with you, Lady S! Musical note.
Excellent… mumbles Clemont. My Prism Tower lighting system worked brilliantly, just like all my inventions.
Probably kid sister is not impressed: Yeah. Right. Whatever… There are challengers waiting for you, you know. She then informs me what I just noted about this being the gym. And they head in.
Clemont’s inventions sure are amazing, right? He gave me one that solves puzzles, but it always feels like a shame to use it, so I haven’t yet.
Huh, I wonder if that’ll matter.
OK! Good luck at the Gym! Musical note. So I guess she’s not badge questing at all.
Anyway, looks like I can explore the city now! But that’s probably going to take a while, and I do need to check on my berries too.
Let’s go play with the rich people (and get money)
Swalot.
It swallows anything whole. It sweats toxic fluids from its follicles to douse foes.
Swellow.
If its two tail feathers are standing at attention, it is proof of good health. It soars elegantly in the sky.
And finally my eevee’s evolved.
The light of the moon changed Eevee’s genetic structure. It lurks in darkness for prey.
Skiploom.
The bloom on top of its head opens and closes as the temperature fluctuates up and down.
Marowak.
It is small and was originally very weak. Its temperament turned ferocious when it began using bones.
Granbull.
It is timid in spite of its looks. If it becomes enraged, however, it will strike with its huge fangs.
Gloom.
Smells incredibly foul! However, around one out of a thousand people enjoy sniffing its nose-bending stink.
And therefore, vileplume. (Not sure yet if all stones are accessible, so leaf stone seems a better bet. I’d actually forgotten it had an alternate evolution. Guess I’ll raise a second oddish.)
The larger its petals, the more toxic pollen it contains. Its big head is heavy and hard to hold up.
A pokedex entry that served us well in the original games, but doesn’t work well with this one, where the sprite’s cheerily hopping up and down, petals waving about.
Krookodile.
Very violent Pokemon, they try to clamp down on anything that moves in front of their eyes.
