Last time, I ambled along a route for a bit.
The pokefriendshipminigame is nice. Durant manages to be a lot scarier when you’re looking at its steel manibles working, and I liked feeding my gigantic life deer, though I’m disappointed the screen moved up instead of her just bending down like a horned giraffe.
Anyway, continuing the route…
Gurrdurr.
With strengthened bodies, they skillfully wield steel beams to take down buildings.
Flavor text! Button pressing informs me that the thing on the tracks full of brown rocky stuff is an abandoned mining cart!
In a house, there’s someone with the power of reversing type matchups. As warned, I do poorly, but that’s mostly because his pokemon is a lot higher level than mine.
Well, into the abandoned mine tunnels. I hope ghosts try to kill me.
Ariados just dropped down from the ceiling. And I caught her!
It spins string not only from its rear but also from its mouth. It’s hard to tell which end is which.
Really? Because one end has a head.
Okay, now a geodude horde has finally shown up.
Found in fields and mountains. Mistaking them for boulders, people often step or trip on them.
With that, I believe my geodude line is complete.
Sandslash! Another lucky girl.
If it digs at an incredible pace, it may snap off its spikes and claws. They grow back in a day.
That’s really dull. I mean, it’s better than the business about a pokemon never growing its tusks back, but it’s not surprising or all that impressive. “Sometimes when digging at over 50 miles per hour, it may snap off its spikes and claws. They grow back in a day.” would be more fitting the general tone the pokedex should have.
Speaking of dull, I’m so bored of this cave. They had all these cool ideas for caves earlier and now I guess they’ve run out and it’s back to bog-standard brown. The only thing it has going for it is that it’s pretty confusing, and it isn’t even packed with trainers to break up the monotony like a proper confusing cave.
Plus, my usual playstyle is to crush all that appears before me, so at least my pokemon are leveling a bit when I get turned around and run into extra pokemon, but here I’m not even getting that out if it.
I’m going to just head on to the next town. I’ll come back when I have time.
Inside the pokemon center…
A device that lets you become a Pokemon… says a scientist. Would anyone want to do that? I’d like more of it myself.
If I head up the stares, I reach a station that doesn’t seem to be interactive with a woman who gives me a U-turn TM then starts talking about some guy who keeps doing u-turns and I don’t know. There’s a tall and beautiful waterfall in the corner.
Inside a house there’s a little kid saying I want to be loved! Do you have a Pokemon that uses Nuzzle? That’s disturbing no matter how you look at it. Then the older woman says, I wish that I were a Pokemon. Then I could live every day with him… Oookay. I wonder why all this here, and not, say, that fairy tale village, that’s where I’d expect the crazy.
Speaking of, the sign says, Couriway Town. A town connecting differences. So I guess that’s a euphemism and it’s otherkin town?
I make the mistake of approaching the bridge.
Hello…
Dammit, it’s sleazy professor, isn’t it?
Yup.
I have to apologize to you about Lysandre… I’m very sorry for the trouble he caused… And I’d also like to thank you! I’m sincerely grateful for what you did for all of the Pokemon and people of this world. And by stopping Team Flare, you also saved Lysandre.
I what now?
I always knew that he desired a beautiful world… He turns and takes a few steps away. And maybe someday the population of people and Pokemon will actually increase to where resources become very scarce.
No, you just mean people. Animal populations tend to self-regulate.
If someone acts out of greed in such a world, surely some will go without.
What? No! It’s entirely possible to be greedy and harm others even when there’s enough for everyone. I mean, just look around right now!
Actually, that’s a lot of my underlying frustration right there. The stuff motivating the big bad is a real concern. It’s sort of the real-world version of N’s plotline. I don’t know if I should be praising them for bringing it up or yelling at them for doing it so very badly.
If all living things keep acting that way, there will be nothing at all in the end. Why, there won’t even be anything left to steal, will there? But what I really wanted was for him to put his ego aside and lead everything to greater heights.
1) Wow do I not care what you wanted.
2) Do you even know what words mean? How does one put their ego aside in “leading everything to greater heights”?
I never had this discussion with him, though. So I’m partially responsible for all this.
Also for your complete and utter failure to actually be helpful at any point.
Well, enough of that.
Thank god.
Serena! I want you and your Pokemon to take everything you learned from your journey and hit me with your very best shot!
And hey, battle. You’re not totally terrible, I guess.
Although you are pretty shitty. My sliggoo had sap sipper, he opens with a venusaur… And since that gives an immunity to grass moves in addition to the stat boost, I just toy with it until her attack is maxed, then sweep his team.
The professor says it’s because we’ve spent so much time caring for each other, even though one of my pokemon I just added last route. Then he just keeps talking.
The strength you’ve found is simply marvelous! And… You truly love and trust your Pokemon! Serena! A treasure of mine is hidden in this town! If you’d like, try to find it. Well, I’ll be off then! I have many preparations I must attend to! I have a little surprise planned for all of you to thank you for fighting Team Flare and saving Kalos.
I’m really not sure what to make of all this.
It feels really anticlimatic to be continuing if everything’s actually resolved. I guess Holocausthair might show back up, but after how much plot and weirdness the game crammed in (why the hell did he have those leashed robot bugs?) I can’t see how things could go even further from here
Well, crossing the bridge I find another house, this time with someone who wants to quiz me about my starter. Apparently fennekin weigh twenty pounds, because they’re powered by a tiny black hole or something.
Then there’s the hotel, where someone says, I’ve heard that a thousand years ago, the Kalos region was mostly forest. THERE! See, that’s the kind of talk we needed to make this whole resource scarcity thing make sense.
Another person says, I hear there is a waterfall that flows backward somewhere in the world! I really want to see that! Cool! So do I!
Just beyond the hotel is a lovely little area of mini waterfalls and flowing water.

Also, there’s some guy offering fresh water by the edge, which, come on, I just ran around in that, I’m not drinking anything you give.
On the other side is water that you can surf on (I’m really annoyed by how much water you can’t surf on there is…) but no way to get off, because beyond it is nearly identical looking grass that’s the type you can’t walk on (really, it’s a theme with this generation). There’s also a waterfall, but I don’t have that HM yet.
I can’t find any other sign of the professor’s supposed treasure, so I’m going to guess it’s up there and not keep searching.
