Second season go!
Ep1:
Sporty still bullies her brother. Good for you, Sporty! Now, she chats with the comatose bodies of her former friends.
Now the guardian and the elder are talking. Boo.
Opening! There’s a third girl now. Also, their poses are even more exaggerated.
The queen explains that last season, she was hurt by the dark king, and will have to go back to looking however she did “before” for a bit, which maybe has something to do with her turning normal sized last season to help the girls, also the dark king will probably do the same. (Again, since that was kind of already the plot of the second half of last season.)
Now back at the school, we’re reminded their teacher got married. The girls are currently fascinated by this, possibly because in Japan married women would traditionally quit their jobs and disappear from the schoolchildren’s sight.
Meanwhile, Sporty and Science are now lords of the school, with Sporty taking over her team. She does not really get how that works and it looks like her friends will be actually running it.
We learn that she and Science have also been carting around the corpses of their former OCM friends. That’ll surely be useful when the monsters reappear.
And then the monsters have reappeared. I think this is the most bizarre one yet, so we’re off to a great start.
Suddenly, braid girl! More braid girl! Just as suddenly she is gone. Back in OCM kingdom, the queen is also gone. We learn the queen is the result of some bizarre conflux of elements that formed into a single mass, and they’ve now come apart. There are three types: her life, her heart, and twelve “heartiels”. Apparently, despite just exploding, the pieces will stay together.
The girls actually have to find a place to safely do their transformation sequence. It occurs to me that maybe the exaggerated goofy poses are part of getting pushed about by whatever the Pretty Cure possessing spirit is.
Speaking of pushing around, they throw the enemy around like it’s a giant balloon, looking utterly shocked by their competence.
I guess spending half last season relying on Porun for powerups did a number on their self-esteem. After utterly crushing the poor evil spirit thing, they remark that they seem to be generally powered up.
Then she heads home to find that the elder and guardian are here, despite the fact they are terrible and it’s bad enough we’ve spent this episode on scenes of them in the other kingdom. Also, one of the heartiels, who are apparently fairies, is already there.
Then we end with monster butlers and a doe eyed presumably baby dark king. More importantly, does this mean there’s a dozen equally tiny bat-winged things to collect? Will good and evil get into a collect-off?
Ep2:
So the girl doesn’t know who she is. Also, this should be a longer quest since this time there’s fourteen items and they’re only starting with one.
Also, six characters, two girls:
This is not how magical girl series should go. Not only are only two characters girls here, but they’re the most inconsequential of them.
Scratch that, they just lost the one mcguffin they started with. Secondary OCM is the only remaining girl.
But now they’re met the girl queen!
Nope now she’s gone again.
But somehow she’s going to school. The reality warping returns!
Meanwhile kid evil is running around playing.
And also she’s jammed herself into the life of Sporty’s food dispensing sempai, who takes a couple minutes to settle on the girl being her cousin, then similarly trails off regarding her name. The girls start to think this is weird, but then they’re offered food and Sporty gets more interested in soft serve. Possibly they’re hit by the memory effect too?
Now some evil guy’s shown up. Kinda boring looking.
Ep3
Girl queen is getting anxious that she doesn’t know things everyone else seems to, but luckily talking tulips tell her it’s fine.
Also, the little heart fairies seem to gravitate toward the queen, but also keep wandering away.
The monster looks so weird. Did they use up all their slightly reasonable monster ideas last season?
Ep4
Sporty finally goes mad under the strain of keeping them all in her room and dumps them on Science. I’m just surprised it took this long.
They still haven’t figured out “Hikari” is the queen. Let’s chalk this up to more reality warping.
Well, seems like their powerup didn’t do much good since they’re badly outclassed by the villain guy.
And now it looks like girl queen will be the third magical girl. Well, that’s better than being reliant on a guy for their powerup like last season.
Ep5
She’s still glowing. Transform already!
And okay now Porun’s alt form is slightly smaller therefore he awakened (to the power of merchandising), and finally actually transforming.
And in fine tradition she has a long transformation and speech followed by wondering what’s going on, while the main girls continue to tell evil guy to leave her alone because she’s not involved. Finally, she blasts them with rainbows and they’re powered up.
And now the extra guys are discussing how they have to go back to their world. Yay! And they’re figured out she’s the life of the queen. And now they’ve forgotten again.
Ends on another cliffhanger.
Ep6
New evil guy!
And lots of nothing much. Also, still too much Porun.
In conclusion another fairy thing has appeared in what seems completely unrelated to anything they’ve accomplished.
Ep 7
Today Sporty’s in charge of chores, which apparently her mom does normally. How lazy! Also, she’s so incompetent she can’t even handle her baby brother’s homework problems.
Meanwhile, the little kid evil is still just running around being silly. There’s really no threat here.
Goddamn, apparently the second fairy thing is male. We can’t even have all the parts of the female queen be female.
Science disapproves of Sporty’s laziness. Thank you, Science!
Because, Sporty. Because.
Every monster vies to be the most ridiculous.
Hikari is being really helpless. I guess it’s better than outright needing Porun to do stuff, but she’s helpless until he tells her to stop being helpless, then she beseeches other powers for strength.
Oh also there’s some side issue where the food stall woman Sporty idolizes is actually like moonlighting from some high powered job and the guy who’s been coming around is some fanboy employee from there to beg her to return.
Ep8
More worrying about the food going away from Sporty.
This episode is apparently about Hikari’s ties to everyone. Half of those are memory cukooism, though.
There’s a little explanation about how the cherry tree nearby blooms later than usual just so a few minutes later they can have a ridiculous cherry blossom scene while cafe woman declares she won’t give up on the cafe. This show has great priorities. In America, your options are only rain to mean sad and darkness to mean scary. We need more overused flowering trees.
Also, as a sideplot Porun obsesses over angering Hikari to prove she cares about him. Porun is terrible.
“No, this thing is super important to me! Please don’t damage it!” “Haha then I will destroy it on purpose AAHH WHY AM I BLOWING UP!” Magical girl villains are not very genre savvy, are they?
Ep9
Okay, so they’re finally going to find the queen’s heart so they have somewhere to stuff the heart fairies.
Today’s episode seems to be about how the two girls are unsuited to run their respective clubs – Sporty’s too wussy, and Science is too strict (although really, when spilling deadly chemicals, there’s no such thing as yelling too much). They should trade.
Hey, looks like our one female villain has finally popped up to be badass.
Mini-queen appears to still need Porun to tell her to fight back.
Ep10
Today, Team Evil fights over cake. They are hilarious, but not very threatening.
Now the evil is conveniently knocking everyone out. It’s disappointing mostly for the inconsistency. If it’s not a concern, then have it always work this way. But having it mostly be a concern except when it’d finally come up, and then there’s some dodge is annoying. We’ve come so far from the opening episode where there was drama over escaping the monster just to transform and be able to fight back. The last season handled this much better.
Ep11
Okay, so Sporty is hoping things will go well tomorrow, so Science holds her hand, says she’ll lend her power, then explicitly says that the power lending works through handholding. Very platonic there girls.
Of course, Sporty will need all the power she can get, since her easygoing methods have led to one of her more hardassed teammates chewing everyone out in her stead.
Also, random giant crystal just appeared in memory-cuckoo girl’s bag.
And now eleven episodes in, Team Evil has finally figured out the mysterious new magical girl is the queen. Good job, Team Evil.
Meanwhile, Sporty has decided to use the power of handholding to create a winning hivemind among her group and defeat the other team. They go on about warm hands for a while, which pops up so much in anime.
Okay, the enemy designer has officially run out of ideas. She turned a big telephone pole with wires into a black and white godzilla, because godzilla.
And the crystal turns into a new piece of merchandising, so they can finally store the heart fairies. The ones the plot was supposedly about finding before the evil guys, except they just tripped over them occasionally and they never seemed to be in any danger. Team Evil needs to really step it up.
Ep12
Okay, so apparently they’re not clear queen girl is the queen after all. It’s only been twelve episodes, wouldn’t want to rush things by having the bad guys have any idea of what they’re supposed to be targeting.
In today’s recap, Sporty attempts to claim they’re in some sort of rush, but yeah right.
And apparently the last evil guy is super powerful compared to the rest. And so ends the brief moment we had a female villain as the top power. Also, he knows the third kid is the queen. Then they’re nearly beaten by a haybale monster.

Yay, Pretty Cure! :D Though still not one of the seasons I’m familiar with. Did you ever go back and fix your notes on/finish watching Splash*Star? I finally watched since you first declared you were going through the whole series, and it’s now my second-favorite after Fresh.
Speaking of Fresh, have you started watching it yet? :D
I have managed to compile everything, and also have a better laptop so I shouldn’t need to keep hopping around computers based on what file type they are, but I haven’t gotten much further. I still need to complete stupid birdboy and why squirrel romance why one, then backtrack to SplashStar. I’m definitely going to get to it when I can, though – I stopped right when the enemy girls were getting really entertaining. And only when that’s done can I go on to the sixth season.
All right, thank you for the update! And thank you also for all the reviews!
Sure! I’ll try to get to the rest of them soon.
