Another chip done.
Entredeux (Snowman (Stitch))
He was so intensely focused on measuring her, and the look on his face was one of consummate professionalism. She wanted rather badly to see what she could do to disrupt it.
I love her reasoning here and her secondary bit about how why not because it’s just so interesting dealing with someone who lacks a carapace, but it feels at odds with bits of the opening where she’s reassuring herself that he’ll be professional about everything.
Endgames (White Queen (Black Queen))
This seemed like an impossible crack pair when it first came up – they’re not even on the same planet – but it makes so much sense as a pairing here. The queens are meant to stick to the game’s rules and only act once things have reached the right point, so of course it’d end up something like this where they both agree not to do anything early and wait for the final battle the way things are supposed to go. And they’re the only people like each other in the game’s little bubble universe and in opposition to each other, so of course they’d end up somewhat obsessed with each other.
And despite that they’re probably going to end up fighting to the death…
Henchmen (Slick (Droog))
There’s something about this that’s just sort of funny. You have the opening bit about how Slick would run things with threats and murder, but Droog isn’t intimidated by anything and Slick can’t kill him because they’re kinda sorta friends, therefore blowjobs, which are as degrading as having to sing gospel music. It’s such a beautiful chain of reasoning.
Clouds (WQ (Bec Noir, PM, AR, WK))
It’s really weird looking back on a depressing bad end take after canon itself decided to go for a depressing bad end of its own. There’s less of a death toll here than in canon, and Jack actually dies, and PM doesn’t have to spend three years chasing him. But it’s a worse end for WQ, since in canon she dies quickly with her husband and probably secure in the belief Jack will be trapped on Earth and destroyed too, and since this is WQ’s story this still feels horrible and depressing and like the worst possible way for things to go.
Such a fitting end for Jack, though – if he hadn’t taken the time to rape her and went after AR immediately, there’d be no one to help and he might have won.
Zozzled (Crowbar (Snowman, Die, Trace))
This is extremely cute and the dynamic between them is lovely. Poor Crowbar, he spent all this time and effort thinking up reasons and she keeps pointing out they’re not a problem and going back to stripping him.
He’s still trying to get his head straight about Slick-the-secretary and the rest of him is more or less hoping he doesn’t catch on until it’s too late for the now-punctured mantra.
She’s lucky Slick’s job was so ridiculous it distracts Crowbar from realizing that the fact he’s her ex-secretary who murders her boyfriends instead of her ex-boyfriend who murders her boyfriends doesn’t actually address the core murdering her boyfriends concern. I’d love to see the morning after to this, where Crowbar finds her and says, “Snowman, about last night…he was a secretary?” in various baffled tones until she explains the weirdness that was Derse.
This was the first porny Homestuck fic I ever wrote and it shows. Characterization is a bit shaky here since I was still settling on everybody’s personalities/backstories.
It’s fun seeing them from a slightly different angle, I think. They’re consistent within the story, and that’s all that matters.

Three of five!
Next time on Sunday carapaces, everyone is human.
I know. At ten a day right now it’d take more than a month just to get through what’s there already.
At least it’s easier to review bad things? It’s usually easier to figure out what’s wrong.
