Yes yes, i’ve gotten this all from you before. If i didn’t take your copy
paste advice the first time, i’m not going to take it the second. Anyone who
has seen one of your reviews has seen them all.

1. There is nothing wrong with that sentance. You’re just looking for
something to bitch about. If you actually read things instead of skimming them
for errors that sentance would have been more than clear enough.

2. Please tell that to my spell check. It blantly refuses to listen to me.

3. Putting a period after dialog is not improper to the point where it is
worth mention after happening once. I understand that to an english teacher it
is a great Tabboo. I have read several hundred books. I have seen that in a
few instances, It is far more proper to put a period after your dialog is
complete than to drag the sentance on forever.

4. Your copy paste cookie cutter speal about dialog is confusing and needs to
be rewritten. After that, you need to actually tell the person what is wrong
with their sentance. If i hadn’t known automatically what you were having
issue with, i wouldn’t have known what exactly you wanted me to fix. A younger
and less experienced writer isn’t going to know what you want them to do.

5. As for using ‘ for my characters thoughts, ‘ is perfectly acceptable, and
if you can’t tell ‘ from ” maybe you need to get your eyes checked.

One, the flareon was sick. And even if it is resistant, it would eventually
hurt it.
Maybe the jacket wasn’t big enough? I never said it was. This shows you are
looking into the text too muck. It was never meant to be a conundrum of any
sort.
Everybody make some mistakes when writing and proofreading at 3AM.
Have you ever been in a snowstorm without a jacket? And I bet you’d feel
brittle if you were thin as the cold would seep into your bones.

I thank you for this, but first, I have a Beta reader, you need to check my
profile, second everyone has his own style of writing, third I try to do my
best, but I’m Italian and I’m doing what I can to improve my stories in
English, don’t ask me why I don’t make them Italian…cause from what I’ve
saw, it’s not that much stories are written in that language. Fourth, from
what I’ve saw almost everyone capitalized the words Pokemon, Pikachu and
Charizard, not only on fanfiction, but even in Bulbapedia, and what also you
got wrong about it being numbers or letters? None of the other reviews have
ever complained about it!

Look forget what I wrote in the answer of your review…it’s just that I wrote
it without thinking…look, I appreciate your opinion and try to understand I
try to do my best but I never been good to improve my fics that much, that’s
also why probably mostly are on hiatus…apart two songfics, a two parts story
of my old OC for Johan07’s story, a poetry and a one-shot fic…however, I
have sincerely a Beta Reader…and well…I have to admit this has been my
first criticism…so that’s also why what I wrote in the first PM above this
may be cruel…I can’t often consider a criticism from a flame…since like I
said I never had a criticism…about the commas I know I might overuse
them…but this had been one of my problems in Italy…when I did some Italian
issues, since I was little my problems were mostly the commas…and unluckily
now, I’m always afraid to not put them enough so I exagerate…and about the
numbers instead of the letters to indicate the time that go from ‘two days’ to
more, is that I always like to use the numbers instead of the letters…and I
know I need to stop doing to indicate always the chance of scene with “With
the Shadow” before what happens with the scene change, but it makes me feel
more sure in this way.

Look, now that I understand it wasn’t a flame from you but a criticism…man,
sometimes you don’t know how much I feel idiot but this waas the first time I
had someone not liking my way to writing, and I thank you for giving me your
opinions and what I needed to change…but I’m afraid I might be never able to
change my ways, since I got too used to my ways and so probably you’ll be
finding my other chapters with the same ways you criticized me…So probably I
might not be able to change my ways, but still thank you for giving me your
opinions, and I hope you’ll continue so perhaps to the end I’ll manage to
improve my ways.

Really thank you, sorry for the PM of before.

But, ignoring all the errors, what did you think of the story?

Thankyou so much for reviewing! I’ve been really off lately and it really
helps when people point out my mistakes within my story. (:

Do you think that maybe you could give me a few tips on how to improve my
writing? I’m such an amateur compared to everyone else on here; including you.
My spelling isn’t that good as is my grammar. I’m always making errors.

Going back to the review, your second paragraph didn’t actually make any
sense. It was all piled together so I couldn’t understand what you had
written. Could you elaborate a little bit, please?

If you have any more comments about my stories, don’t hesitate to review! I
really appreciate it.

First of all, I want to sincerely thank you for your review. I’m not the best
at grammar, so it’s nice to hear about what I’m doing wrong. I’ve taken your
comments into consideration and I’ve understood that most of what you said
makes complete sense. After reading your review, I’ve decided to rewrite this
story later on. I will most definitely keep your review in mind while doing
so.
The only point I disagree about is the insanity point. Insanity happens in
many ways. As far as I know, the way I wrote it happening to Dawn isn’t wrong.
Your “badly portrayed” comment is something I will have to think about.
Anyhow, thank you for the input. Your review really got me thinking and I will
strive to improve my writing.

A response to your review at http://www.fanfiction.net/r/7747406/

Okay. One, that was WAY to confusing and I didn’t understand half of what you
said due to you repeating the exact same thing multiple times.

Two, I’m well aware of all of this. I’m in a fucking English Honors class, I
think I’d know proper grammar. If the dialogue is an exclamation or a
question, you don’t use a comma. UNLESS, the entire sentence is a question or
is being exclaimed. Otherwise it doesn’t work. You don’t have a character ask
a question and have it end with a period. You can’t do something like this
either:

“Who are you,” I questioned?

Doing that makes it seem as if someone is questioning their own actions.

Three, not all of that dialogue is being said by the same person you know. It
wouldn’t make sense if I had:

‘Tch,’ I grinned.

That would imply that Gold made the sound, which he didn’t.

Continuing, this is a work in progress. I fully intend to go back and fix my
mistakes the moment I catch any horrible errors. Plus, this is the first
chapter, so you can’t honestly expect it to be perfect.

Also, I just skimmed the first chapter of one of your own stories, and a
majority of it is dialogue, so I wouldn’t be talking if I were you.

Subject: Fanfic review

Hi there, I’m just sending this PM to you because I don’t want you getting the
wrong impression about me. I saw your review on the pokemon fanfic “My Life”
and to be honest I was slightly upset with the bluntness of it. I felt it was
more of a flame than review. I have seen your reviews on other fanfics and
they are actually quite impressive reviews, it is easy to see that you know
the English language very well. So as a relative novice in reviewing, I’m
pretty sure there isn’t much I can say that you don’t already know, but try
and be a little easier on newbies writing their first fanfic.

A response to your review at http://www.fanfiction.net/r/7748540/

First, thank you so much for reviewing! I was really excited to see that I’d
gotten a review for my fic. Second, thank you for caring enough to give me
constructive criticism. I know I didn’t say it in the author’s notes of this
story, but I really do appreciate concrit, since I strive to improve my
writing.

But in this case, I have to disagree with you; canon sources, such as the
games, capitalize the word Pokemon as well as Pokemon names like Pikachu or
Charizard. Those terms used to be in all-caps in the early games, but as of
Black and White, the first letter is capitalized. Other sources do the same
thing. If the link works, see here: /us/news/vg_lucario_target-2012-01-16/ If
not, go to the official Pokemon website, go to News and Events, and read the
article about the Lucario giveaway.

I can definitely see where you’re coming from, but in this, I’m sticking to
how the canon sources capitalize things. I do appreciate your giving me
constructive criticism, though, so don’t let this deter you from pointing out
anything you think might be wrong in later chapters. I did the best I could to
research for this fic, but I’m far from perfect, so I could have missed some
things.

Thank you again for your review!

Good point, thanks for bringing that to our attention. Personally, we’re under
the opinion that Microsoft word auto corrected that (because I’m not the one
who added the accent on the e).
It’s not that he can’t do physical activities, it’s just that he has a weak
heart so he gets tired really easily, along with something like asthma. About
the treatment, he’s fourteen, so even though he knows it’s good for him, he
doesn’t like it. It’s like how some kids hate eating vegetables. This is
worse, because really, who likes being hooked up to an I.V every week for
years? The reason he left immediately is because he had to get away while his
abra was still asleep. We tried to make that clear, looks like it didn’t work
very well. And yes, the fact that he takes it off early does come into play
later.

On the other hand, the rambling is most likely my fault, since we were writing
this the way we talk (we thought it would make more sense, in a stream of
consciousness kind of way). Hopefully, the next few chapters will add some
fore focus.

Thanks for reviewing!

A response to your review at http://www.fanfiction.net/r/7748844/

Paragraphing has rules. You start a new paragraph with a new subject. The goal
is not to divide your story up into even blocks. Also, a new speaker means you
start a new paragraph.

Dialogue is written as “Hello,” he said or “Hello!” he said, never
“Hello.” He
said or “Hello.” he said or “Hello,” He said or “Hello” he
said. The only
exception to this is if the next sentence doesn’t contain a speech verb, in
which case it’s written as “Hello.” He grinned, never “Hello,” he
grinned or
“Hello,” He grinned or “Hello.” he grinned. Note that something isn’t
a speech
verb just because it’s a sound you make with your mouth, so generally stuff
like laughed or giggled is in the second category. Furthermore, if you’re
breaking up two complete sentences it’s “Hi,” he said. “This is it.”
not “Hi,”
he said, “this is it.” or “Hi,” he said “this is it.” And
if you’re breaking
up a sentence in the middle, it’s “Hi. This,” he said, “is it.” If
there’s no
speech verb in the break, you use a dash, like “Hi. This – ” He looked around.
“- is it.” And the same punctuation and capitalization applies to thoughts.-
You. I was TheWaterPheonix once, but I had to change my identity because
people like you make fun of my stories.

Subject: re: Review

A response to your review at http://www.fanfiction.net/r/7749241/

Thank you so much. I didn’t realize I spelled so many words wrong. As for
captivating Pokemon, I feel like that is more of personal preference not
something that everyone should look out for. I will follow up on the
capitalization though for somethings like professor, pokeball and so on. It’s
probably because almost everywhere you see people refer to Pokemon as such
because it’s a trademark/Games/Manga capitalize them.

I saw something wrong with the first sentence you mentioned a long time ago,
it was just that I couldn’t place a finger on it earlier. I had thought it was
too simple at first but I guess this is why you have other read your stories.
Dialogue to me is so tricky, because you don’t realize your mistakes until
later. Of course I had a sentence afterwards planned up, but that’s not how
things came out.

I feel like not everyone in the Pokemon universe, ever gets a starter Pokemon.
If this was true then everyone would be having around the same Pokemon right?
Not to mention that population would not make this possible, so I wanted to
make it seem that the professor had only a few of the 3 “starter” pokemon to
give out per every few months. I didn’t want it to be like- “Oh he’s different
because such and such.” The one’s who do get starters in my opinion have
connections, such as friends, family members or the few that help out the
professor or special cases where they scored exceptionally well on the
physical section of the testing for the licenses. (I caught this one myself.
Capitalizing “Trainer’s License.” DAMN IT) Any suggestions?

As for Aaron, he never liked the professor and most of his co-workers don’t
either. Anything that would make him frustrated, or that didn’t happen his way
was a sign of standing up to someone, but I will be changing that. It does
seem a little off why he would be excited about this one person when obviously
many others have visited before. My original thought process was that a twelve
year old kid, refuses to go home and instead goes against the will of the
region’s professor to catch his own first Pokemon like so many others have
before him. Then again I may have worded the scene differently.

For future references, would I or would I not have to capitalize attack names?
It does seem a little odd not capitalizing them. I could however make the
move’s name as a technique and therefore it would become something that most
of the pokemon universe recognizes because it’s the general name for said
attack. For this I think I will be using the personal preference notion, but I
just wanted your thoughts on the subject.

Defiantly. Whatever, I feel like instead of writing for the new chapter, I
will go back on this chapter, weed out most of the mistakes and hopefully by
the time I’m done, have my finals done and I can start on the new chapter.

There’s probably mistakes in this PM.

Damn…
I have to admit, your review was rather ruthless. I’m greatful for the
attentiveness you paid to my writing, but it’s slightly discouraging to hear
someone pick out every little error. I understand my style is rather
long-winded, but I do that so I don’t over rush the story. It’s how I write,
and I’m sticking to it. If you don’t like it, don’t read it.

As for beta readers, do you know any good ones?
