Fire Emblem: Engage

Oh hey, looks like they made another game after Three Houses! Tough act to follow, but I wonder what they came up with?

…Never mind.

Please stop trying to make a Fire Emblem Ultimate Universe, Intelligent Systems. Try making good games instead of reminding us of better ones. If you could stop jerking off the player every five minutes, that would be great too.

My impression of Engage is “best damn gameplay in a Fire Emblem by a lot, shame about everything else.

Eh, the gacha mechanic with the rings and the general grindiness of the Somniel are very questionable. Those more than anything are why I noped out, honestly.

Just to comment on the “stop trying to remind us of better games” part, this game was released for the 30 year anniversary of the franchise, the emblems and the brought back mechanics are added intentionally to remind you of the series lineage. any other game and you would be correct

The key part of that sentence was better games. If they had put effort into making Engage good, the callbacks wouldn’t have been an issue. Instead it feels like they’re using nostalgia to prop up a shoddy product, which is just scummy.

(And if that was their intention, it is really bizarre that they used so many mechanics from the black sheep of the franchise instead of going back to basics.)
