Pokeauthor Responses, Part 4

Thank you!

(I notice a significant spike in my story traffic after you post your reviews. I suppose I should thank you for that too. XD)

According to the Multiverse Theory, there are an infinite number of universes in which every possible eventuality exists. Here, in our universe, it is impossible to conceive something like this happening due to the sheer absurdity of such a thing. However, in another universe that works on a separate set of physical constants, something like this might not be so impossible. It might even be the norm. Going with this logic, it can be assumed that Wayne lives in some alternate universe where something like this has a chance, no matter how small, of happening.

But, then again, it might not have to be considered impossible. With our rapid advancement in technology, a world in which one can become fully immerse and transferred into the cyber-world doesn’t seem to be too far off. Some people even believe we might gain immortality through transferring our entire minds into data.

Or getting sucked into a video game might just be just that. Many have used this tired and played out method as a way to introduce their character to the digital world to the point of cliche. And few actually manage to create a character that manages to blend successfully into the world or they make them to the point where they appear to be Mary Sues.

I hope this answers your question.

~Rayzor14

I hope that answers everyone’s question.

This was originally written in May of last year, and my writing style has improved since then. I’ll definitely edit these, if they’re too big of a deal for someone to handle. I can see that the little things can bother others. Back then I would try to be “top dog writer with a ton of description” and it clearly didn’t work out too well. Yeah, I’ll take out some of the detail in the first part because it’s unnecessary, and I get that.

Alright. I’ll use “said”.

Look, I’m a young writer, and I didn’t know that it was annoying to read. Please, I know you’re helping out (and thank you, by the way), but don’t say things so bluntly about my story, okay? I know you probably don’t like it, but what makes you think I want to see a whole block of a paragraph about dialogue? I know how to write. I go to school, and I learned about this in fourth grade. It just so happens that I don’t write like this when I’m writing casually, like I am now. And in my writing, I tend to add unnecessary commas for pauses in a sentence.

Get a kick out of this: I am a casual writer. I definitely won’t level up to YOUR standards, so just step off, okay? Thank you for trying to help me, and I appreciate it. I read your profile, and I see that you review things a lot, just, can you please stop reviewing my stories? It kind of hurts my feelings… only a bit. Thanks anyway.

-DinRose.

[can you please stop reviewing my stories?]

I’m going pretty fast and don’t always look at the name, so it’d be easy to do by accident. If you find my reviews upsetting, make sure to block me – if you find the idea of that objectionable, you can always remove my name from the list when the month is over and I’ve finished reviewing.

Yeah, I kind of feel bad for getting a bit upset about these reviews. I read your FAQ, and I understand why you’d review my story! I’m happy you don’t hate it, because it seems that you’ve said worse things to other people. XD

I won’t block you, since you gave me credible feedback. If it gets to the point where I get more upset, then I guess I’ll block you… but I hate blocking people hehe… but again, thank you, and I admire what you’re doing.

In the Pokemon games, the names of Pokemon are capitalized. They used to be all capitalized, but now they’ve changed that small problem, and wild Pokemon that appear have the first letter of their species’ name capitalized. Though I appreciate the feedback in that aspect, I’m not going to start leaving the names of Pokemon in lower-case letters.

As for dialogue, I majored in English for four years, so please understand that spelling and punctuation mistakes are typos, not my ignorance. I appreciate you pointing them out, and I will certainly fix them.

“Adios, Ariados,” is meant to sound a bit like “Adios, amigos,” which is a phrase often said around where I live. It’s just a lyrical little statement that I altered to fit into the Pokemon world.

As for others wanting him dead, I do intend to go into Astrid’s back-story a bit, so please understand that the gaps are going to be filled in as the story progresses. But as I did say in the first chapter, he isn’t fit for battle; he’s small, weak, and somewhat of a bane when compared to other Pokemon of his species.

Seeing as she just washed up on a beach and is clearly very far from her destination, Mai is a bit disoriented when she is talking about where she had intended to go and what she was trying to do, that part is supposed to remain a bit muddled for now until we learn a bit more about her.

I appreciate your feedback, and can assure you that any of your concerns (besides proofreading, which I will fix. Seeing as I’m the only one who proofreads, things tend to slip by me) are going to be answered in later chapters. It wouldn’t make much of a good story if one knew everything there is about the main characters in just the first chapter, but perhaps that is my opinion. Good characters take a while to understand, and though I’m not vain enough to consider my character ‘wonderful,’ I definitely don’t want everything about her on the table in the first chapter.

If you majored in English, you know the games don’t follow standard English rules but standard game rules of capitalization of important words.

[“Adios, Ariados,” is meant to sound a bit like “Adios, amigos,” which is a phrase often said around where I live. It’s just a lyrical little statement that I altered to fit into the Pokemon world. ]

You realize that amigos is a real word, right?

I don’t understand how changing adios to Ariados would give you the impression that I don’t know that it’s a real world. I know it’s a real word, I do speak Spanish. :/ I changed it to Ariados, the way many people in Pokemon fanfiction change “God” to “Arceus.” Ariados rhymed. It was just a little aesthetic change that I thought could be appreciated, but apparently I was completely wrong. Let me change it, oh please God, before someone else is offended by this. I’m sorry if I sound rude, but you are drilling me over a two line sentence that really has no significance.

“Adios, amigos.”
“Adios, Ariados.”

They rhyme, they sound similar. That was the only reason I changed it. This is a Pokemon fic.

Seeing as I get my basis of Pokemon information from the games, I follow the way the game treats things such as Pokemon names, city names, etc. I -know- they ALL CAPS key words, but I really -don’t care-. I have seen so many people bashed because they -didn’t- capitalize a Pokemon’s species name. You’re honestly the only person I’ve ever encountered who thought the opposite.

But then, also consider this. You don’t capitalize cat, but you do capitalize Siamese, American Shorthair, or the genus of the classification of an animal. A Pokemon’s species name is something I consider to be a bit like the species.

On that note, Pokemon that aren’t given nicknames are left with the name of their species, so technically I consider that the Pokemon’s name. I’m sorry that this bothers you so much, but that’s the way I see it. I understand your point. Your reasoning makes sense. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to change it. It was intentionally done that way, and if that upsets you, then I’m sorry. :/

I do so apologize for spamming your inbox, but I forgot to simply thank you for the review and watch. It means a lot to me that you took the time to do just that, and I sincerely hope I don’t let you down in future chapters.

The second one came immediately after the first, so no idea if they still feel that way.

Thank you for taking the time to correct my work and explain the corrections made. You are completely right, this is a badly thought out, poorly written fic. I felt really stupid for posting it without proof-reading or anything of the sort. I just really felt like writing something for this fandom and of Silver, who I really like. If you’d be willing, I would be honored to have you as my beta. I’ve been having trouble really finding a beta who is a grammer nazi and would be kind enough to verbally abuse me into noticing my mistakes both grammer-wise and plot-wise. If you’re willing, of course. A yes or no, will be enough for me. Thank you once again for reading my fic!

I’ve been directing people to the beta reader thread, no idea if any of them actually use it.

Hey,

I know that the story’s FUBAR’d in terms of plot, it’s a revision of another story that I’m doing for a thread on /vp/. It’s not meant to be taken seriously. Also, in the fucked-up universe of the original author, Ghetsis rapes N like a whole bunch of times and it’s pretty common knowledge. The story is meant to be read by people who have read the original one- I didn’t want to post this on /vp/ until I was done, which might be why there is some confusion.

Also, the thing you said about Pokemon names is incorrect. Please refer to the in-game dialogue, Serebii and Bulbapedia for confirmation.

I understand the issues but the point of the thread and the story is revising what’s already there and putting a new spin on it, and the original story concerned Ghetsis, Colress and N. It’s not meant to be looked at as an actual story. It’s like the other fanfiction I’ve written on this site- all jokes of different types.

I appreciate the criticism, though. It would be perfectly valid if the story was meant as an actual story, which I can understand how it could have been taken as.

mangalover1351 | Great! I get that you’re a Know It All.

First of all. Most of the questions you had about the plot have already been thought out, but if I were to tell you ANY of the answers, I’d spoil major events in the story, so. Secondly, my grammar, writing style, and punctuation flaws aren’t to be picked on by you, please and thank you. Three, Don’t look down on me because you’ve written 113+ stories and I’ve written 4. And four, my vision of the world of Pokémon is not only different from the anime, it’s a mix of manga, anime, and games. So butt out. If you don’t like it, keep your mouth shut and leave the page. I don’t need help from people I don’t even know or respect enough to give a crap.

Thanks for the tips and corrections. I’ll take note of them in the future and correct the ones I have now.

The reason he’s really passive because he’s not exactly the type that goes off capturing pokemon against their will. Which is why getting pokeballs is usually the last thing on his mind. This particular trait actually makes it difficult for him to catch pokemon, so the ones he gets are either given or chooses to be with him. I guess to me, this helps characterize maurer’s still young sense of morality and spirituality. Since I planned for Zorua and Ninetails to symbolically be his guides, Zorua is the one that places the pokeball in his hoodie and helps teach him to slowly understand things. However if you still think he should be the one asking, I wouldn’t mind changing it to that.

Thanks a lot for your criticisms! They’re greatly appreciated :)

I really appreciate your tips and will use them. The reason my character has a Dratini is because it is a very special pokemon to the character. Oh and the pokemon being capitalized is fault to Microsoft Word. It capitalizes any unfamiliar word taking it as if it were a name/proper noun. Thank you for reading and I will improve the story based on what you told me. And as for age. I don’t really want to change it, the reason for that is in real life I am thirteen, however, I wrote this story when I was twelve. Oh and Dragon is my favorite type.

I see what you mean. ‘Pretty much’ seems to make it seem less powerful, for lack of a better phrase to use. I’ll take that part out. :) I see your point about the second part, too; it’s a lot longer than it should be, and it makes it seem less sudden too. Thanks for the tips!

Thanks again for the helpful review. :D Hope you have a fun review month! Hope the other author’s responses aren’t too bad this time around, too. :)

It’s funny to see my ‘Hope the author responses are better this time!’ and then most of them turned out angry. Whoops! I may have jinxed that. XD More for you to laugh at though, I guess. ;)

Reported for swearing? That’s silly. There is the option to filter all profanity in PM messages and reviews. That person who reported you should’ve used that if they didn’t want people swearing on reviews/PMs. Or did they use it, but still get angry?

On a brighter note, thanks for all the feedback thus far. :)

    1. Farla says:

Yup, they’d already filtered it so it just came up stars when I sent the PM, but they threw a fit anyway and started telling me it was against the rules.

  2. Jax says:

Re, that last one: Well, judging by the username and the maturity of the response in general, I’m going to say… seven.

    1. XStrawberryDuckFeathersX says:

Lol! In their profile, I think it says that they are 15. What’s the point of asking ‘Guess my age’ if it’s on their profile anyway? :S

      1. Ember says:

I’m trying to figure out what the point would be even if it weren’t.  Are they saying they’re too young to be held to proper standards of grammar, or too old and mature to be accepting advice from strangers on the internet, regardless of how good that advice might be?  I’ve heard both.

        1. Farla says:

Sadly, I think it’s the young and incompetent defense. I don’t know why people want to be dismissed due to their age.
