Pokeauthors Part 11 + MADNESS

Thank you for your constructive criticism. But, their are a few things I’d like to address. Before I begin, I’d like to state I’m still extremely new to writing, and so grammar errors are to be expected. It is, after all, unedited. I also have a habit of capitalizing words I don’t need to.
Anyways, the only thing I want to say is the reason I’m asking for OC’s is because I felt like doing that for my first story. I never said I wasn’t capable of making them myself, I was just hoping to engross more people in the story. Adding other writers OC’s to the story doesn’t make it a terrible mess if you know how to work the characters into the storyline. After all, I already have 4 of the chapters written. But then again, I guess it depends on the story.

~Darkness46

“I’m super new and I can’t even handle the shift key! Also why are you suggesting I’m not super experienced handling submitted OCs?”

The first one was definitely the best today.

Please, please explain clearly. I really appreciate your criticism on my writing, I really do but it’s extremely hard to follow with little separation in your sentences. Continue with criticizing me but I am a very simple guy and a run on is super hard for me to even try to dissect.

I capitalize Pokemon’s names because many times I’m talking about a specific Pokemon. But I see where your coming from and I probably did something like that. Is it that big or can I continue it? I don’t mind changing but this is my style with Pokemon but if it’s wrong then I’m willing to change.

As for the “Its/It’s” problem, I most likely was rushing myself and did not notice the mistake. I do know the difference.

Please rewrite the first paragraph of criticism. By the words I’ve read in your review, I think that you’re very knowledgeable and your advice could improve my writing. Also, other than some of my grammatical errors, did you like the idea going in the story? What can I improve to make it better? I am by no means a pro at writing but I’m willing to take suggestions from people like you. As always, reviews are both my lessons and my drive. Thanks.

I’m sorry you didn’t like it. This was a fanfic written three years ago when I was ten.
Don’t worry, I don’t plan on continuing it if that’s what you want to hear.

Didn’t know that now I do and I don’t plan on becoming a professional writer so no thanks. Even though there are comics that use this style and movie scripts as well, so the write properly thing doesn’t really make sense. It’s a form a writing just one that isn’t accepted here. It was the first chapter of the story, so his development was supposed to continue. Since this is not accepted I don’t plan to continue. I never wanted to become some professional writer. Just wanted to put a story out.

First of all, let me thank you for extending your critical eye to a humble story with less than thirty views. It’s nice to know that we little people still matter. So please allow me to extend the same courtesy and respond to your critiques.

With regards to my semicolons, I’m afraid that I’m just a very pretentious person. That’s the wonderful thing about being alive in the twenty-first century; one is free to be as pretentious as one would like. Of course semicolons are pretentious, almost needlessly so; but I’m of the mind that the only thing more pretentious than using semicolons is critiquing the presence or absence of them, but to each their own :)

With regards to the Pikachu being a terrible thief, thank you for picking up on that! I was wondering if I made his ineptitude too camouflaged, but I’m glad that you were able to pick up on his less-than-astute actions when it came to scavenging and foraging. I assure you that an explanation will be forthcoming in the future, but as for now, I’m afraid you’ll have to be content with a kudos from me for picking up on it!

With regards to the capitalization of Pokemon, Pikachu, Mew, and surely more to come in the future. Primarily, I used that style of capittalization because it’s what I grew up reading in both the Scholastic book series and then other fanfictions, it follows the same grammatical rules established by previous officially licensed works such as the card and video games, and finally because, as it is a fanfiction and not a work based off of my own universe, I’d like to play homage to the principal owners of the franchise by following their rules for capitalization and pluralization. In universe, I suppose that the reason why Pikachu would not be capitalized instead of human would be because the title Pikachu is more in the line of an official Latin name such as Homo sapiens than a more general title for an animal. While it would be interesting to explore the grammar rules of the Pokemon Universe from the point of view of a resident, I doubt that many people would be interested in reading Pokemon: Strunk & White Version.

Returning to the issue of the Pikachu having a contradictory and most likely ignorant view of the wild Pokemon that he shares the forest with, that’s once again a piece of the puzzle that you’ve so astutely noticed. Congratulations!

Finally, with regards to the line of dialogue by Mew, I see your point there. I’m loathe to leave a piece of dialogue hanging by itself, but you’ve made an excellent argument in favor of doing so.

Once again, thank you for taking the time out of your day to look at my story and give me feedback. I hope that I might be graced by your critical and unwavering gaze in the future.

All the best,

Phantasm

Thank you? I think.

Farla,

A new review has been posted to your story.

Story: Ice
Chapter: 1. Early Childhood

From: The Farla Hater ( https://www.fanfiction.net/u/6410731/ )
——————-

Farla should die. you’re not a girl, you’re not a man, you’re just some sad spirit in
this world without anyone to love her. i know what you’re trying to do. i’ve read your
stories and they all suck, so you write comments to get attention. what a sad life…

——————-

Finally!

Well, this day was otherwise kind of eh, SO let’s go check in with my favorite person this month!

That’s right, Sliver Feather updated his story! It’s like second Christmas!

Sorry about the incident in the first chapter! But that’s probably the last time it’s gonna happen. I’ll take what Alphinia said about my dialogue mistakes and I’ll try to improve it as best as I can.
Replies:
Alphinia: Thank you very much for the help, for both telling me my grammatical errors and the review itself along with the PMs. I just wanted to give you a shout-out for all the help and actually explaining my errors properly. :D
thisissupposedtobeblank: Thanks for spotting the double paste, I didn’t even notice it until you pointed it out. XD
Ash the Aura Guardian: I’ve watched the series but as I said in the summary this will be slightly AU and there will a use for removing Poliwag and having Ash there instead. :)
iBenni: Thanks! I just blocked her now, I planned to block her right away, but I wanted her to see my response, hopefully she did. :)
A reader of your story: Thanks :), that actually explains a lot.
Person Who Readspienight: Thanks for the support! I appreciate it. :)
Act: That was no tantrum. There was no anger, just a great amount of irritation. I already explained why I don’t wanna see Farla’s reviews on my stories. Criticism and pointing out mistakes is fine, but being rude about it is a different thing. If you just came here to argue, then I see no point in talking to you seeing as you support Farla and she has positive reviews on your stories, so it’s safe to assume you don’t know what it feels like to have a unclear yet harsh comment thrown at you (yes, unlike you I research about the person I’m addressing instead of jumping to conclusions). Next time you review, try not to be so biased. Just because she’s your friend doesn’t mean everything she does is right. Good day.
To Act: Thank you! You took the words right out of my mouth. Act, if you’re reading this, you should know that I am not as apathetic as you are (from what I’ve seen from your account bio).

And, to make sense of this, the glorious context in case he gets annoyed and just reuploads the whole fic again:

Reviews for I Can’t Believe It’s Happening
 espeon44 chapter 2 . 2h ago

Don’t listen to negative reviews. Remember everyone make mistake. Also don’t forget about the invitation!
 PrestigiousP chapter 1 . 2h ago

There are parts where your grammar is wrong. Stories can be reported for grammar misuse.Just for reference, this comes straight from the Rules & Guidelines page:

[Here is a list of conducts that should always be observed:
Spell check all story and poetry. There is no excuse for not performing this duty. If you do not have a word processor that has the spell checking feature, use a search engine such as to find one.
Proofread all entries for grammar and other aspects of writing before submission. ‘Hot off the press’ content is often riddled with errors. No one is perfect but it is the duty of the writer to perform to the best of his/her ability.
Respect the reviewers. Not all reviews will strictly praise the work. If someone rightfully criticizes a portion of the writing, take it as a compliment that the reviewer has opted to spend his/her valuable time to help improve your writing.
Everyone here is an aspiring writer. Respect your fellow members and lend a helping a hand when they need it. Like many things, the path to becoming a better writer is often a two way street.
Use proper textual formatting. For example: using only capital letters in the story title, summary, or content is not only incorrect but also a disregard for the language itself.]

To Act chapter 1 . Jan 12

Hey “Act”, actually farla is the one who’s throwing tantrum. She goes around and throws tantrum about grammar in other people’s pokemon stories. A story’s most important point isn’t the grammar, it’s the plot. If farla posts such idiotic reviews in an authors story, he/she has every right to respond to it. It’s not called “throwing tantrum”- it’s called defending the story.
 Act chapter 1 . Jan 12

Yes, it was true. If you didn’t understand what she said about how to punctuate dialogue correctly, a quick google will show you. Perhaps instead of throwing a tantrum next time someone tells you you’ve made a mistake, you could ask for clarification on the parts you don’t understand.
Person Who Reads chapter 1 . Jan 10

I love your story! It’s so cute! I absolutely adore Amourshipping! I hope you update soon!
night chapter 1 . Jan 10

In my opinion this is a great story and I usually like amourshipping stories (the couple is cute but I usually don’t like the stories) but this one seems good! Don’t listen to others that say your story was crap it’s great!
A reader of your story chapter 1 . Jan 10

i read this story when you uploaded it on this site before. i gotta say that there’s nothing wrong with your grammar. the “review” farla gave you was just one of her usual troll reviews that she always posts on other people’s stories.for those who don’t know, farla is a troll. she dosen’t know how to write a review and always just whins about grammar. she’s basically just copying and pasting her same old useless “review” in almost every new author’s stories just so she could harass them. she’s doing it since 2008 and she’s STILL doing it. Some people never mature up and forever behaves like a immature kid, farla is one example of those kind of people. she goes and posts her copypaste review on pokemon stories for her own enjoyment.

pie chapter 1 . Jan 10

im loveing this story so far :D
 iBenni chapter 1 . Jan 10

I enjoyed this first chapter, I like the changes you made to how they both meet. As for Farla try to ignore her and try blocking her account if possible, then you won’t have to worry about her leaving a review on your story that you may not appreciate. Anyway hope you update this soon and keep up the good work! :)
Ash the Aura Guardian chapter 1 . Jan 10

I think it’s nice, though I think some of it could be a bit less…rushed. Everything seemed to happen instantaneously and lacked tension. You even removed the Polliwog scene from the actual episode and didn’t add a substitute. It’s a minor problem, but I thought you’d like to know for future reference.Anyway, it’s a good start. Hope to see the next instalment soon!

 thisissupposedtobeblank chapter 1 . Jan 10

Is it just me, or was everything written twice? I think you accidentally pasted your story in a second time.
 Alphinia chapter 1 . Jan 10

Cute idea, but to be honest, your AN is very distracting.Farla may be very snappy in her reviews, which isn’t necessarily right, but when you start talking about how horrible her stories are, do you think that makes you sound any better? The best thing to do is just ignore it. She actually has some good points if you listen to them.

You asked, and I do actually agree with her rules on grammar. However, I don’t point the capitalization out as errors in my reviews since there’s such a big disagreement on it in the fandom at large. Technically, her way is correct, but I’m not trying to start an argument on the subject.

You actually have a few more grammatical errors in your writing other than capitalization (Which as I said before, I’m not technically pointing out as an error. I just gave you my opinion). You have some missing commas, and your dialogue is punctuated incorrectly. When any form of said follows the speech, you end with a comma. If a direct action follows, then you close with a period. Exclamation points and question marks can be used in either place, but if it’s followed by a he said/she said, then you use a lower case for the next letter. Sorry if that doesn’t make much sense, but you can always google dialogue rules! And no one is trying to insult your English when they point this out. Honestly, most of the stories in the fandom have the exact same problem.

Content wise, you had some cute moments. It was a nice touch that their parents already ship them (And it seemed like a real mom), although a lot was taken from actual canon. Next chapter should be more telling, and I’ll try to comment more on the actual story when it comes around.

As I said, I would’ve reviewed more on the actual content, but your AN stuck out in my mind so much that it was hard to focus on much else. Just be the bigger person and take it out. Your readers will respect you more for it.

Guest chapter 1 . Jan 10

Farla is being a bully.
 espeon44 chapter 1 . Jan 10

Ignore her, try to write in your own way.

So beautiful.

How does the formatting of posting these replies work? Some of them look like screenshots of the mobile view review page, the one in the middle is pasted text, but the top ones in the yellow boxes?

    1. Farla says:

I’m copying and pasting from the site, which grabs a lot of the html formatting directions. Yellow boxes = what I see in my inbox. Pasted text = someone blocked me, so I can only see what I got in my email. Reviews = what I see on the (regular) review page.

  2. actonthat says:

“Not apathetic,” but still not willing to punctuate dialogue correctly. That’s an interesting level of investment.
