For some reason the revenge reviews got really active this round. I got 8 in a row, and that was before normal reviewers started arguing with them!

These were all posted at the same time. Someone’s cranky! I’m pleased they came up with original posts for all of them, I expected them to just spam the same message after the first.

I thought this was great! Don’t listen to those other reviewers, they’re just trolls trying to get a rise out of you.
Little confused as to the blood theme, but hey. This is really good!
Now, I’m not looking at this review section again, it’s probably one of the most overwhelmingly negative I’ve seen. The only one I’ve seen that matches this is a NessXLucas fic over in Smash Bros where the author was called a w***.
But I digress. Have you guys ever heard of constructive criticism? Or, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all?”

:Aww, this was a really nice story! Your characterisation here is lovely, truly. Hau’s kind of character is really relatable, so I enjoy these sorts of stories. I really felt sorry for him—family pressures are very difficult, and it’s really hard trying to find what you want to do versus their expectations of you. I loved how you portrayed his growth throughout the story, it was very nice (and a little bit heart-breaking at points) to see what he went through to become what he is now. I also appreciated Gladion’s and Lillie’s support for Hau, those moments were very touching.
Of course, Luna (I like your naming choice here, since Moon is a rather, uh, unusual name) was pretty cool, too—although I could understand Hau’s frustration from losing to her every time, her cool demeanour and touch of sass makes her quite an interesting character and a realistic teenager. I’m happy that she at least likes him, just doesn’t acknowledge him as a rival. Her supporting statement came off a bit sharp, but that’s good as well, because that’s how you made her, and it keeps her in-character.
Oh, dear, that was quite a ramble…well, in any case, I really enjoyed this story! It presented a fresh perspective on Hau’s character, and his journey to find who he wants to be and finally achieving such makes for a satisfying and even inspiring read. As I should expect from you, there are very few grammatical errors, nothing that needs terrible nitpicking anyway.
Also, I’m sure you are tired of reading other people’s defences for you mixed in with their reviews, because this is an evaluation of your story, not your character—but I think that this needs to be said.
Many of the reviews here are from indignant guests that have apparently received a harsh review from this writer and come to flame this story—these are people lacking a backbone and appreciation for a good piece of fanfiction. At least to the ones who complained while logged into their accounts, I commend your honesty, but at the same time, I condemn your expression of it. Writers respect others of their ilk, it’s basic decorum in our world. If St Elmo’s Fire has harshly reviewed your story by trashing your ideas without giving any explanation as to why, your anger is reasonable, but here is something you need to understand: people are going to dislike your story. Heck, some people are going to hate your story so much they’ll want to break their laptop just from the sheer ugliness of it. And you’re going to have to get used to that, regardless of what story-writing means to you.
By doing the same to St Elmo’s Fire, you are no better. If you don’t like it, say why, even offer a suggestion if you’ve got one, and leave—don’t start hurling insults at the writer, because that’s not why people read stories (and if it is, I honestly fear for your wellbeing and will harshly judge your character). If you wanna insult the writer, PM them. If you don’t have an account, you’ve clearly got the time to insult them in a review, so you’ve got the time to make an account and insult them in a PM.
Furthermore, from what I have seen, St Elmo’s Fire gives constructive criticism. It’s hard to make constructive criticism sound coherent and nice at the same time. As someone who has recently begun to do this myself, I know how difficult it is not to sound cold, blunt or patronising in my attempts to assist writers when there is a mistake or an aspect of writing they clearly struggle with, especially because it’s not easy to identify the reviewer’s feelings in a mere box of text. St Elmo’s Fire’s profile also explains his review structure, and it is very clearly stated that the pointers made to writers are offered because their mistakes can be fixed and does not bear any ill intent.
It doesn’t matter if you’re not writing because you want to improve or become an author—you want to gain something from it here, don’t you? After all, you’re posting your stories because you want the world to read them; otherwise you would keep them to yourself. And let me tell you, even if over half of FFN writers consist of sensitive and whiny kids/preteens, the remainder will still be there to criticise your writing. Heck, even kids won’t read a fanfiction with no paragraphing, spacing, or coherent line of thought. I mean, look at this review! There are like, no paragraphs, are there? How many of you are thinking ‘F***ing hell, Dada-dee-dum, separate your f***ing review into f***ing paragraphs you stupid piece of s***!’ and have entirely given up on this because it’s too hard or too long to read? The majority of you, I presume! There’s something I need to improve on, and I’m not complaining about it, I’m trying to fix it (as hard as that may be to identify…)!
If you want recognition, you need improvement—starting with basic grammar. After that, you can refine your style and try to see which voice and style works for you. If you’re upset because you feel like you just can’t do it, then here’s what you do: stop cuddling that fluffy little beast of despair and just keep writing. It’s an irksome piece of advice, it’s the last thing you want to hear, but that’s the only thing you can do, and that’s the only way you can get better. Look at the review from a logical standpoint, understand the offered advice, and act on it. If you don’t understand what the heck the review is going on about, PM the reviewer. Google it. Ask a teacher or a friend or a family member (for the adults, ask your boss if you’re desperate). Get a beta reader. Bang your head on the wall to give it a good wakeup call and reread the review. Sing it before you go to bed. Do SOMETHING, dammit, because wallowing in your self-pity never gets you anywhere except hell, and whining about imperfections which can easily be perfected shows you’re not even trying.
Also, to the evil, spineless, illogical guests who vent their spleen on others because of their own shortcomings and have no appreciation for talent, I hope you’ve realised something rather merciful (or cruel; depends on your perspective, actually) of the writer here: none of your reviews have been deleted. They’re still on the reviews for the whole world to see, and to the open-minded people who have actually read this story instead of chucking nonsensical trash at the writer for no respectable reason, they will find your reviews to be a very ugly sight and immediately judge you for your dislikeable expression of character. If you’re going to criticise something, please don’t act like a child about it, or a temperamental teenager with vocabulary limited to graceless curses. And having to endure such humiliation at your hands could be stressful as well—if you’re proud of that, I honestly question your mentality.
Well, run me over with a truck, that was like a whole essay. Or a granny’s lecture. Who knows whether this will make it to the reviews section? Actually, who cares anymore? I’m exhausted. St Elmo’s Fire, I hope you’re aware that this story is definitely a very good one, totally worthy of praise, and something you should be deeply proud of. Hopefully I’ll see another one of your works in the near future, with equal or even greater standards. Good luck!

Fascinating. I once again have to wonder if the revenge reviewer is just one person who obsessively follows the reviews and lost it when they saw people defending me; both of the responses were posted not long after the defenses. But then, why do they normally wait so long between bursts of activity? It is a mystery.
YouAreWorthless:As much as a pearl, it is not even a real gemstone. It just a dirty parasite that no one wants
…What???
Seems like they’re trying really hard to sound like a Steven Universe villain. I don’t get it.
I am so glad I’m not the only one who thought that!
Pearl would ttly pwn them btw
Between the pearl bashing and the Die review, I think they might be channeling Peridot. Very poorly, though.
