actually, bitch, you are incorrect. First of all, when you said ‘You wouldn’t capitalize animal or mouse or dragon, so you shouldn’t capitalize words like pokemon or pikachu or charizard,’ you were incorrect, because if you go to the official pokemon website, in any article you read, specified or not, they capitalize them.
as for your comment about when the characters are speaking, I’m not writing a book where there’s a thousand words per chapter.
Last of all, you are incorrect about the professor part. that is a title, such as Nurse Dixon or Officer David
Next time, get your facts strait before you start bicthing and pissing people off

thank you for the Flaming advice. I might just make it so that Ben’s
entire world revolved around the possible until the accident. and by the
way, Ben wasn’t supposed to be proud of that intro he gave Oak. I’ll
try harder to make sense this time.
Thank you very much for the advice, and thank you for reading thus far.
I’m glad you like it and I’ll try to keep the advice in mind!
thank you for leaving a review. May I say that it was actually kind of
cool to get a review from you. Your something of a celebrity online.
I dont hate N. In fact, I think N is the best antagonist Pokemon ever
made. This story is from Cheren’s perspective, and in that perspective,
Cheren is not as forgiving. Cheren is angry, and most angry people zone
in on another persons faults, and rip into them. I see Cheren as having a
cold anger, where instead of shouting and sputtering, he digs into a
point meticulously and without mercy.
In game, N often walks away before the person he was talking to makes a
counter argument. This is Cheren’s last chance to make a point- and its a
bit of a desperate gamble to save his friend- so he is using any means
necessary to drive it in.
The view on Pokemon in the Pokemon world is in its self a double
standard, and I tried to portray that. Perhaps I portrayed it wrong, or
lost my point somewhere, and I’m not even sure what I think of this
story any more, but I don’t think I will be changing much of it. I’ll
put a small paragraph in that will help with transition ( I hope), and
brush up on the spelling, but this has been an eye opener, and I am not
going to pretend it never happened.
So, thank you, for pointing that out
I appreciate the feedback, however I’m having trouble determining if
it’s a review or if you’re raging at me for just about every flaw. I’m
well aware of how male Gardevoirs have the option of transforming into
Gallade and I didn’t intend for the character to sound like he didn’t
want one. As for my grammatical errors, I take full blame. I was unsure
on a few things and wrote it out as I remember how most of the books
I’ve read in the past were written. (Most recent book I’ve read outside
of class is probably one of the Warriors installments. Don’t remember
which one.) I’ve only ever written a majority of my fanfics in Film
Script style.
(i. e:
Character 1: *scratching their head and turning around* What was that?
*Another howl*
Character 2: *trying to get character 1 to follow* Let’s…just run. )
So this sort of criticism is kind of to be expected. As for the age of
the trainer, in Black and White 2 the trainers were supposed to be 16,
according to my knowledge, and if that female main character was
supposed to be 10, then she had quite the growth spurt growing up
somewhere along the line. Same age for the trainers in Pokemon X and Y I
think, I’m thinking they could also be 14 but I’ll have to double-check
on that. Anyways, I appreciate the feedback, I may or may not have made
similar errors in writing the second chapter which I will be posting
shortly after I’ve sent this to you, but I will reflect on this feedback
and use it to improve or revise the first couple of chapters as well as
make future chapters more bearable to read. Oh, and I should point out
that since my personality type is INFP, I tend to take criticism
pretty…well I just don’t take it very well let’s leave it at that, so
if I get a harsh review such as this, while I may feel a tad insulted or
hated, it does help me to try and fix the mistakes I’ve made. Then
again, maybe writing just isn’t for me. I’ve received better criticism
on my artwork. Anywho, thanks again for the feedback, I will do what I
can to improve from it.
A response to your review at https://www.fanfiction.net/r/10045634/Thanks for the review. The reader’s opinion matters, to me at least. Ihope that you will keep reading my story. If it helps, your opinion, as I
said earlier, matters so much that the story just might take a curve in
that direction. Not immediately, but eventually it’ll curve. Thanks for
reading!
Even if you don’t want to read my story, at least reply back to my message, even if just to acknowledge its reception.
Also, wouldn’t Pokemon be capitalized because they are an entirely different species/card game/video game/etc.?Some people are really needy.
hey, hey, calm down. It’s literally his first story.

i capitalize the pokemon because it looks better capitalized call me ocd but i will try and change that for the readers sake
about the dialogue i will try and fix that too
also i gave into the semicolon cause i could not stand the sight of the red scribble underneath the word so it got on my nerves
all constructive criticism is allowed so continue to help my story get
better by reading my new chapter and helping me in fixing mistakes

Well for starters in pokemon bw GameFreak said the main characters were
OLDER than 10. And look at N. He understands pokemon for no good reason
whatsoever. Ok so I check my documents I did have the backstory but f.f
screwed up and the story messed up. My documents also messed up the
names of the pokemon too. Everything else, thank you for telling me and
thank you for reviewing. BTW, sometimes I used to get confused at where a
new POV began so I added it just for no confusion. I’m new at this,
just trying to get adjusted. Not trying to make exudes either.:

I’m sorry that you didn’t enjoy the One-shot but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s
fanfiction and anything is possible. Thank you for your criticsm, but it’s not going to
change anything. As for the capitalization, that’s how I write. And I’m not going to
apologize for that. There have been planets of real authors whoe capitalized words for
seemingly no reason at all.
When it comes to the plot, you must have been taking it far more seriously than I was. I
just wanted to write something simple and light. I wasn’t looking for a full examination
of each and every character. But, obviously that’s not what you were looking for.
Moi-Moi.

I understand where you’re coming from in a grammar standpoint, but I use capitalization
because that’s how I write and that’s what I’m accostomed to. Things that I capitalized
are also capitalized in the Pokemon games. That’s what I know, so that’s what I went
with.
——————–
Hello, I just wanted to start out by saying thanks for checking out my
story! I’m particularly new at this, so any criticism I can get is
great.
Just a few things I would like to point out:
flac·cid (flăs′ĭd, flăk′sĭd)
adj.
1. Lacking firmness, resilience, or muscle tone. See Synonyms at limp.
2. Lacking vigor or energy: flaccid management.
I was going for the second definition, like how drained of energy he
was, and how the movement of his hand reflected this. But yeah, limp
probably would have been a better choice. Meh. :P
As for the detail about Camila and her old friend being older than the
typical age, I was just trying to sort of emphasize how she came from a
loving, overprotective family, and that she was entirely clueless to the
dangers of the world, and so on. (Also, I’ve always found it incredibly
stupid how people would let their little ten-year-olds run around
battling with these little monster things. Like, “Okay, honey, go with
your fire-breathing lizard and travel around the world alone! Have fun
single-handedly destroying a criminal gang while you’re at it!”)
Good point with the pokémon names. I had never really thought about
that, but it makes sense. (And it kind of seems obvious when you say it.
T.T)
So, yeah, thanks a lot for taking the time to review, I’ll fix what I can and try not to disappoint with the next chapter! :D
Perhaps you should add a line saying that, yes, you know the game capitalize pokemon but that doesn’t change anything in your reviews?
capitalizes ?
It doesn’t matter. People are so, so unwilling to understand the different between copyright capitalization in an official source and proper grammatical capitalization in a story. Check out some of the old Caps Thread arguments if you dare.
Seriously, I suggested this to people who are in their late twenties and they were like BUT GAEM MAKE CAPITAL???? (but also that in an RP setting it’s easier to pick out the pokemon present when the species is capitalized to keep continuity between posts, so, okay, I guess?…)
Maybe Farla’s copypasta could be modified to something like, “From an in-universe perspective, all pokemon species names and titles should be uncapitalized; in our world, we don’t capitalize animal/mouse/dragon, so they wouldn’t do that in the pokemon world. The names are capitalized in the games/by nintendo because pokemon are special in /our world/.” just to forestall that initial argument, but y’all are way more experienced at fighting stupid than I am.
Keleri, you might have a point. I didn’t understand Farla’s argument until she explained it as being an in-universe thing to some commenter on a NaRe post. The capitalizing pokemon thing is so ingrained on the site that the link between dragon and charizard wasn’t immediately obvious to me, and that may well be the case for other people, particularly those who are skimming a wall of text that is devoid of praise. Granted, skimmers are still going to skim, but I know there’s been a few every year who genuinely don’t get what she’s getting at.
Oh, *that’s* the reasoning. It makes perfect sense when explained (especially as I’m somewhat obsessive about holding proper in-universe POV), but I’d been wondering for weeks about the insistence that standard grammar trumps canon usage. Honestly, if Pokémon were a fandom I wrote in, I’d have initially gone with canon usage simply because it was canon.
Disqus sucks a duplicated my comment. Lo siento.
[the insistence that standard grammar trumps canon usage.]
“Canon usage” is standard grammar. Copyrighted words are always capitalized in public material. In prose, they are treated as normal nouns.
This is what I mean. Anyone who really cared could just look this up.
Well, the waters are pretty muddied by the fact a lot of authors abuse this – Muggle, for example, why the fuck is that capitalized? Or Gamemakers? Pokemon is relatively clear in that the capitalization was imposed from the outside, but there’s a fuckton of authors insisting that in-universe all their special snowflake terms need to be capitalized just because. And since capitalization is meant to communicate something, people assume there must be some specific reason it’s there that trumps the general rule.
Ugh, YA capitalization. I don’t even want to talk about it. I die a little inside each time I see it.
Bear in mind it’s gotten a lot more confusing in recent years. Originally, it was POKEMON and CHARMANDER in the games, so people capitalizing weren’t working off canon and it was really obvious the games didn’t care about grammar.
The problem is everyone has a different reason, and saying “it’s done in the games because it’s special in our world” would just get everyone telling me that they’re capitalizing in fanfic because it’s special in our world.
This time I’m replying to most PMs, so I wait for them to tell me which reason they’re using, then respond based on that.
Bleah, I figured you would already be well acquainted with all the weird reasoning these people come up with. Alas!
I think I actually have collected all the reasons in my capitalizationdex. It’s just there’s so many of them I have no idea which of them someone’s using.
If they actually capitalized differently based on reason (ie, BECAUSE SPECIES only did Pikachu but not Pokemon, BECAUSE TITLE did all words related to pokemon and trainers but not objects, BECAUSE GAMES capitalized everything down to Doctor and Potion) I could probably identify it but as you see in the replies it’s full of “The reason I capitalized Pokemon names is because Pikachu is the name of my Trainer’s Pokemon.”
HOW ABOUT WE JUST GET RID OF LOWERCASE LETTERS IN GENERAL? JAPANESE DOES THAT! OH WAIT! YOU HATE ALL NATIONS BECAUSE MEN ARE ALLOWED TO LIVE AND HAVE FREEDOM!
I don’t think anyone’s ever accused me of having an issue with lowercase letters before. Cool.
“get your facts strait”
Yeah, Farla, you need to have your FACTS STRAIT before you go around telling people how to write.
“I’m sorry that you didn’t enjoy the One-shot but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s fanfiction and anything is possible.”
That . . . that, right there . . . that’s at the core of what is wrong with fanfiction today.
If only people realized that anything being possible doesn’t mean any of it’s good.
