Last time, good opening! Then nothing happens.
Ep13
Today Sporty’s being bratty to her mom. And karma’s already smacked her in the face for it. She continues being bratty. Take that, moral lessons!
Memory cuckoo girl has a rant about how she wants to just stay a regular girl. You memory-cuckooed your way into everyone’s life, you’re not one.
Finally, Sporty’s dad explains that her mom’s constant concern for her wellbeing is due to concern for her wellbeing. Jeeze, Sporty.
Team Evil shows up to verify their theory that there’s something the girls need to do to resurrect the queen fully. Team Evil is much more on the ball today. Also, he gets the first enemy glimpse of a heart fairy, so maybe the plot will finally catch up with the character’s claims they need to find the fairies before the enemy team.
Ep14
Sporty sees her crush and blushes a lot. Memory cuckoo is confused by crushes. Queen’s heart explains crushes are the most wonderful pure feeling. Also, there’s some new heart fairy without explanation, just hanging out.
Back at Team Evil, they’re still debating who the third magical girl is while the kid continues to play with toys. I mean, they’re funny, but things need to move forward eventually.
Team Evil has reappeared and now they know she’s the queen’s life again. It’s like the mansion scenes are flashbacks to weeks ago when they were still confused about this. Also, for some reason Hikari isn’t transforming for the fight and the other girls keep having to yank her out of danger. Then Porun tells her she should, so she does. Maybe the memory-cuckoo powers are running amok here.
We end with Sporty finally working up the courage to wave her giant supporting flag while her crush is in the middle of scoring, and seeing it makes him win instead of distracting him at that crucial moment, because power of love.
Ep15
Memory cuckoo’s classmates invite her out, and she’s a bit flustered by having legitimate social interaction instead of her usual insert into memories system.
Discussing their upper classmate crushes, Hikari says that she really looks up to Sporty, but the girls sadly just assume she means platonically and start discussing their own platonic obsessions with the two and how they totally platonically ship them.
Then Sporty appears and the other girls hide out and stare until Sporty asks what’s going on.
And now the two new kids are pretending to be Sporty and Science while having a fake conversation about how Sporty should totally play basketball against the highschoolers, so they’ve upgraded to writing fanfic and then acting it out. SO WEIRD. Poor Sporty.
So anyway first evil guy, and they power up and Sporty is apparently courage while Science is hope(?) and they blast him so maybe he’s dead but probably not yet.
Ep16
Today we hear that Sporty’ fortune is to be super lucky. Then the new heart fairy finally gets in the container, so I guess we’re on track. Now they’ve got four of twelve, though I assume the wandering one will get stolen at least once.
Really, is that bit ever going to pick up? The bad guys just show up and are confused until they’re beaten, the heart fairies just appear periodically. The bad guys have even finally noticed the fairies, but they still aren’t doing anything.
Speaking of, they’re currently discussing this lack of knowledge or doing anything. Newest most powerful guy explains the fairies are heartiels and the girls need all of them to bring back the queen. Yet the plan still isn’t to attack the heart fairies.
Then the biggest evil guy shows up at the school, and the assistant principal says he’s not supposed to be there and go away.
With the assistant principal who he is, it’s a tossup between “mundanes see something totally different” and “no he really does have no sense of self-preservation”.
And the big guy says okay and leaves, and then realizes that’s stupid so he turns around and heads back in.
Ep17
The dark butlers ask if they can let the kid out, and the rest of them say not yet, and then start discussing how maybe something weird might happen if he’s let out. So maybe Pretty Cure will convert him. It’d be nice to not murder the people who don’t seem particularly malicious this time.
Meanwhile science club is going badly. The new kids are just thinking about sucking up to Honoka or what’s the easiest idea. So later she lectures them about science being what’s fun.
This is sort of a return to last season where there’s a complication that makes what they’re working on in trouble, but it’s sort of an afterthought. Still don’t seem to be much in the way of stakes.
Ep18
Camping! They’re building stone pile to cook in, instead of a more open campfire, and foraging for some food.
And we end with her dad being suspicious of the weather, so he calls it quits early, and therefore they avoid a landslide. My family would totally have died as landslides aren’t really a thing on our radar.
The fairy then uses the power of merchandising to give them notebooks before finally getting in the marble storage container. I think they’re going for the idea that the girls need to satisfy the fairies by displaying the quality first, but it sure wasn’t introduced properly and also dammit fairies just turn back into the queen why are you being difficult?
Ep19
Science.
Nothing to do with the plot of the episode. The episode is that Sporty worries her family might leave, and then queengirl finds out and worries about it and then Sporty finds out it’s a misunderstanding but doesn’t know queengirl knew so doesn’t realize she needs to be updated.
Ep20
Protodarkkingkid is still staring out the window and really wants out. You know, it’s unclear to what degree he’s in charge. It seems like he can only do what they want.
So last episode was all about Sporty being worried about leaving and then Hikari being worried, and it looks like this episode is shaping up to be something similar but with a side character?
But this time it’s cute raccoon. Who she wants to keep forever. This is one of those problems that’ll resolve itself when he hits puberty. But no, we need a moral about don’t keep wild animals. Kids, totally keep wild animals.
Now everyone’s worrying about being separated and the girls are staring at their OCM tamagotchies, but we already resolved this last season, twice over.
Okay, now villain lady is explaining eternal darkness is eternal happiness :D
Once again the main girls can’t accomplish anything without Hikari transforming, which she needs Porun to order, and then order the chargeup beam.
Anyway, we end with the dark king kid finally walking out after the heart fairy spent the episode saying “the truth is getting closer” so I guess we’re going somewhere with that.
Ep21
Love interest for queengirl? Love interest for queengirl.
Meanwhile Team Evil is pretty sure the kid will finally get on with awakening, so maybe the plot will pick up.
Now the little kid is wandering everywhere and no one notices. Ah, dog lady thinks a toddler on his own is slightly weird. At least someone’s on the ball today. So the butlers attack her before she can take him to the police station, and everyone just acts like they’re random crazy humans, even though they’re purple blob monsters.
And now Hikari and evilkingkid have seen each other and everything goes weird.
And stuff is happening! The guy who was trying to guard the kid panics and tries to kill the catatonic Hikari, but the girls defend her and he ends up rushing headlong into their blast. Villain lady tries to warn him off, but he doesn’t hear, so she teleports the rest of Team Evil off instead. Teleportation continues to be a super cool power that all villains should have.
Still no losses on Team Evil’s side, though, the guy survived.
Ep22
Dammit, back to the elder and guardian doing nothing interesting. We’re almost halfway through the season, so presumably this is meant to be getting into the plot.
Now supervillainguy has shown up in the middle of a street and no one sees him. And he just teleported them to Silent Hill.
Apparently he’s much tougher, but honestly they haven’t been able to win against anyone without a powerup. And now the evil guy is looking all exhausted, so actually they’re doing better than they have all season.
Okay, so their super attack didn’t hit him and they’re going on about him blocking it, but it drove him into retreat, which is all they’ve accomplished with every member of Team Evil. But everyone’s going on about how doomed they are anyway.
So, they summon one of the heart fairies, the one who governs intelligence. And she says there’s a thingy somewhere and if they can find it, powerup! And it’s by some lake from last season.
Ep23
Sporty continues to claim the the big bad member of Team Evil is some sort of extra difficult one, despite the fact he’s the only one who showed signs of exhaustion and seriously, no one has died at all so far. Their success rate against every member is exactly the same.
Now OCM is questioning if they can actually find the thingy that causes a powerup, to which intelligence fairy responds “The book said so therefore it is true! Who needs rational thought? :D”
Naturally, the magic book is right. But while they’re praying, an attack! That makes water flow backward! Now it’s Supposedly Stronger Than The Other Ones Guy, oh no!
Now Hikari is reminding Porun he has to tell her to do stuff before she can do it. Dammit, show. It’s like you’re mocking me.
But then they get the power because the world is afraid and they promise to stop this guy anyway, which is much better.
Evil guy’s attempt at punching away their attack doesn’t go so well now, and he maybe actually dies? It’s confusing because this show will show them getting hit by an attack, fading out under the blast, and the come back for another few episodes of that before it takes.
Ep24 Perfect girl from last season is here for some reason while they go on a retreat that keeps the two girls in proximity. And by some reason, I mean her crush on Sporty.
Huh, superpower guy appears to actually be dead. Which is weird, because all the weaker ones are still around, so, what can they accomplish now?
Now the kids are chilling watermelon in the river because they don’t have real refrigerators.
Dear bad guy: don’t gloat they won’t have a home to return to. Gloat that they’ll be too dead to return. Stay focused on the current goal!
Dammit, the bracelet upgrade appears to have to be activated just like last season. At least the activation isn’t controlled by Porun.
Also, they don’t even need it because he’s one of the weaker ones and they beat him before. But they get it anyway.
Incidentally, we’re at the halfway point of the season, and yet we’ve been in a holding pattern this whole time. Only now are any of the villains dying, and it seems like they’re wiping themselves out pretty fast.
