“Anyway, that was pretty disturbing.” Thank you. =) |

If you haven’t noticed, Dersestuck was made over a year ago and has not been updated since. I don’t know why you would even bother reviewing a story that has obviously been abandoned and has only 2 chapters. I’m not going to bother answering the questions posed in your review, not out of being rude to you, but because it seems you have asked them in a rhetorical sense in the first place to make me question the story’s base. From observing your profile, it seems you have made it your job to give people critiques, the whole intent being to look for inexperienced authors and correct them. However, you are doing this in quite a rude (and patronizing) way. For future reference, I believe you should rethink which tone you are using to address the author. If you don’t, please at least recognize when you are reviewing an outdated fic that has not been removed out of laziness. For some authors who have responded to your reviews, it looks like you have just caused them to hate you and take none of your critiques to heart. Please remember that this site is not Archive of Our Own, and is home to a younger community of authors (in general) than Ao3. Fanfiction in most cases is not for the sake of publishing a professional story, but for having fun writing and using your imagination. Using a patronizing tone with younger, more naive authors won’t get you anywhere, and if I had more of a fiery personality this PM probably would not have been as courteous as it is. Taking a more polite approach to teaching people to be more observant of writing could be a better option for you, but it is your choice in the end and my words will probably not change much. Thank you for your time, |
Fitting Homestuck would contain the wild concern troll.

Also, pokefandom is still realizing what happened.

First off, thank you for the feedback. First, the names of specific Pokemon are basically species, so they count as proper nouns, so they would in fact be capitalized. Regarding a word like ‘trainer’ or ‘professor’ that would (in a Pokemon story) depend on context. In the sentence “the Gym Leader said they would accept challenges from any trainers” it’s used as a general term, but in “the Trainer healed their Pokemon for the upcoming battle” it is concerning a specific trainer, and should be capitalized (similar to the use of ‘Gym Leader’ in the first example). I don’t know about dialogue, because I’ve seen it done both ways countless time, and it may be considered a ‘style’ thing. Admittedly the story does start out slow, but the confusion as to what is going on is intended, for the most part, because Ethan is also rather in the dark about the true nature of his opponent, which becomes clear in the second part which is in the works, where he tries to explain what has happened to May, and is unable to come up with anything substantial (the plot itself will make it a bit clearer). This chapter really seems to work more as a prologue than an actual first chapter, now that I’m looking it back over. I don’t really have an explanation for that last part, but I’d say that it actually didn’t occur to him. He’s used to fighting in standard Pokemon battles, so something like that he probably wouldn’t even think to consider. Alternatively, if he had assumed Cynthia had a full team (which she did, in fact) it would put him at risk of weakening them too much for him to escape. Again, thanks for the criticism, I’ll take what you said in to consideration as I continue writing. |
I don’t think that last one quite realises how English works.
Properly punctuated dialogue is a “style thing?” A “STYLE THING?” Oh, fuck you, author. Christ, poorly punctuated dialogue makes it too painful for me to read a story.
I think they’re honestly that confused rather than the usual being annoying and lazy.
Although they’re still annoying and lazy enough to not bother googling dialogue rules to find out which of us was right.
