Subject: Ah some constructive comments at last
A response to your review at http://www.fanfiction.net/r/7735816/
Thank you very much for the review. It’s nice to get some constructive
criticism for a change.
In response to your first paragraph… I use a more relaxed way of showing how
someone talks. I know that most of the time it isn’t gramatically correct, but
people generally don’t speak with perfect grammar anyway. I could put that
someone said “Gagagaagagagagagagagagagaga!” Clearly that is not a real word,
but that is what came out of that character. Haha of course it isn’t something
I’d ever show to an English professor.
“It doesn’t make any sense for the pokeballs to just happen to open while
they’re in the air…” and etc
Well actually I did write that they were told to come out. I can’t say where
since that goes against the fun of the “easter egg hunt.” Though either way,
it has happened before. In Pokemon Yellow the Pikachu popped out of his
pokeball randomly.
If you thought that was unrealistic then you should have seen the other thing
I wrote. If that followed logic then everyone would have been sucked out
within seconds and died. That is why it’s awesome to have pokemon break the
rules.
You are absolutely right about how the water types just happened to fall in
water. Their stories take place in the water so I had to put it that way for
the sake of the plot. If the water types fell anywhere else then I’d imagine
they’d get terribly injured. I’m aware that it is very farfetched.
As for the rest of the pokemon… well pokemon in general are a thousand times
more durable than humans anyway. Plus pokemon and logic don’t mix. We’re
talking about a world where a Skitty and a Wailord can actually mate. I wont
event go into attacks that burns and so on.
The pokeballs had to return to their trainers. It would make even less sense
if the pokeballs returned from the ground to way back up onto the plane.
I use capital letters since their name is what they are. Plus in the games
they do that too. Either it says “A wild PIKACHU has appeared.” or in the
newest games they say ” A wild Pikachu has appeared.” I’m way too used to
seeing that so I can’t change it.
“‘It’s’ is short for ‘it is’. ‘Its’ is the possessive.”
Very true. I usually don’t think about that. I write very freely. I don’t stop
to think about my grammar until after I write everything. The “its” are often
overlooked. There is a grammar check that I could run after completing a
chapter. That would most likely catch all of those at least. Thank you very
much for reminding me of that. I shall apply that to my next chapter.
Haha it may not seem like it, but I do appreciate the feedback. I’m glad to
get some real comments about my work. I often get something like, “This is the
best story ever and it has no flaws!” Those are lovely but it doesn’t help me
improve. So I thank you for your help.

Thanks, this is what my friend said in response:
“Hi, thanks for the review!
All grammer and spelling mistakes are completely unintentional.
For the “wild Pokemon”, my word program kept on auto-correcting it and I just
got too lazy to keep on changing it back. As for the whole Gyrados/Gyarados
fiasco, I honestly thought that was how you spelt it. Thanks for pointing that
out.”

thank you :) im new, note taken.
in my review i wasn’t trying to be rude or insult you because of jealously or
bitterness or anything – your story was genuinely crap and i was telling you
how i felt about it and how i thought you could improve :) i was just giving
constructive critism :) your story lacks detail, it’s just dialogue. I like
stories with detail, ones that i can see what the room and surroundings are
like, building the story up. I’m very sorry if my comments insulted you, i
just thought you would be able to take the critism as you so easily give it
out:) xx

[He shouldn’t be able to tell what his eyes look like and certainly shouldn’t
be able to see at all if they’ve turned white.]
WELL, he should be able to tell that as he lost his vision.
About the capitalizing… yeah. I guess I translated this in a rush. /shot
[I have no idea what you mean, because apparently he’s just crawling and
nothing’s touching him.]
The whispering. You shouldn’t waste energy talking (especially to yourself)
when you can barely move, but it helped him to keep going.
[From context it seems you mean he wanted to, not was willing.]
My English. Needs improvement.
Well, I looked for about an hour, but nobody that was active/had a brain was
found.
Anything else? I wanna get it as good as possible.

I really do appreciate you taking the time to look at it again. I’ll fix the
mistakes :)
I’m glad you thought it wasn’t an entire waste of grammatical space.

Well, excuuuusssee me! I’m SOOOO sorry that I’m not perfect like you, Miss.
Seel-Woman! I happen to read Pokemon books
when I’m extremely bored! And when I read them, they DO capitalize Pokemon and
stuff like that! I’m only 13! What cha
gonna do about it!!!!???? Ease up on the critism! I’m sure that i’m not the
only one who doesn’t enjoy having such
lengthy reviews that only states what’s WRONG with the story! If you haven’t
realized, that can really lower an author’s
self-esteem! Though I could care less about what you thought about my story,
because I publish my stories so they can be
heard. Though, try to take my advice; Next time, ease up on your critcs and
say what you LIKE about someone’s story. n

I understand the author lacks skill in grammar but could you please not
discourage? Kotina tries hard to write and the least you could do was put
something nice in the review. I also see you have a grammar guide in your
profile so you could have linked that along with the review. I understand you
have a right to review what you want but please don’t just flat out say it
sucks.

Subject: Reply to your review on Pokémon: Blood Red Challenge
Hi there! I don’t actually have that many reviews as you can probably see, so
I’m not exactly sure how to correctly respond to one (do I directly reply on
the “reviews” section? Do I send a PM?), but in the end I chose to send you a
PM. I hope you don’t mind!
First of all, thanks for your review! It shows that at least someone’s reading
my story. :D As for your first paragraph, I’m pretty sure you’re wrong about
that. The official spelling is “Pokémon”, not “Pokemon” or
“pokemon”. The
same goes for “Pikachu” or “Charizard”, not “pikachu” or
“charizard”. Also,
the correct spelling would be “Pokémon Trainer” or “Pokémon
Professor”; it
might seem odd or even wrong, but official sources (such as guidebooks,
written interviews and website infos) AND in-game texts (from the game or the
characters themselves) use those kinds of spelling, meaning that’s how Game
Freak and Nintendo want them to be spelled and I’m gonna keep using them.
About your second paragraph……yeah I don’t get it. No offense, but your
point was kind of lost in all the jumbled phrases you wrote. If you wanted to,
could you perhaps make it clearer via PM instead of throwing random examples?
Like, quote a part of my story that you think is incorrect and then follow it
up with what you think would be correct. Or something like that. Advice: use
spaces so that I can understand what you’re trying to tell me better and not
get confused.
Lastly, I’m really sorry, but that’s just my style of story-telling. If you
don’t like it, hate it or outright think it’s stupid and moronic, feel free to
do so but I’m sticking with this, because I already have my own plans on how
to pan the story out. To each what they will, no?
Again, thank you for reading and reviewing my story! :)

You know, I sounded a bit snarky in my response…Bad sarcasm!
…I don’t actually know which response is yours, you know.
I would guess Bister, but the comment is far too well written, so perhaps the LovelyLily13 one?
Oh, Bhel-Elryss. I thought you sounded fine.
What will it take to get people to shut up about the whole “bad grammar is just my ~style~” thing?
Time.
Understand, they don’t want to feel stupid. So it’s easier to say “It’s not a problem and I meant to do that!” than “wow I sure did fuck up on something basic”, which leads to people being more stubborn the more minor and fixable the error.
That’s why the best way of dealing with it isn’t to pressure them, because they won’t improve until they feel it’s not an admission of failure. It’s like with cats. You just let them pretend they meant to trip over their own feet there and trust they’ll pay more attention in the future.
