Look, to each their own story and there’s a reason it’s AU. Please keep that
in mind and about the weight thing…it’s not gonna become an eating disorder.
The situation is that the OC’s sister is worried about the conditions that
might come with being overweight like high cholesterol or heart problems.
And no, OC gave up on being a Trainer all together and was kicked out of the
house for being reluctant to become a Trainer. In my story, Pokemon Training
is taken seriously and the reason I capitalize words like Trainers and
Professors is because they are titles. I got to Bulbapedia and look at various
Trainer Classes from time to time. I keep to capitalizing Trainer because it
is a CLASS.
And about my writing style…GET USED TO IT…if you’re gonna continue reading
my stories. I have distinct writing styles that change from time to time and
this story is in the first person, only because I thought it was a better way
to convey the OC’s thoughts and perspective from her point of view.
It’s not that I don’t appreciate your criticism, it’s that you’re criticizing
my writing style, ignore the fact that this is the first chapter…it’s
SUPPOSED to be the introductory chapter and seem like filler, the dialogue,
and for another thing…you ignore the fact that this is AU. It means
Alternate Universe.
In my Pokemon stories, I COMBINE the anime AND the games…I create newer
concepts from them and give explanations just to give my take on certain
topics. Also, keep in mind that this is coming from a first-person point of
view…any mistakes might actually seem mostly on the part OF the person.
I’m gonna stop talking now since I don’t know how else to put this, but
really, I don’t need criticism on my writing style or ways of conveying my
ideas and originality (if you can call it originality…) into my stories. If
you’re gonna criticize my writing style, don’t bother. I won’t change it for
one person. I take advice, not lessons. Also, again…THIS IS THE FIRST
CHAPTER! DX I haven’t gotten farther than that and I barely published the
story yesterday!
You were completely missing the point of the purpose of this story…it’s for
fun and a way for me to take a break from my fandom hopping since I’m
currently into Kingdom Hearts. Next time, read my A/N’s before you review and
I’m going under the assumption you didn’t read my A/N’s when you made this
review. If you did…forget what I said.
I’m just gonna…not gonna bother with you. Sorry if this comes out as rude,
but I’m trying to be nice. Now, I’m off. Gonna watch some more Legend of
Zelda.

Also, just to add to the PM…this story is not meant to be taken
seriously…well, not yet, but really, not to be taken seriously. Also, thank
you for the review. I don’t mind if it wasn’t favorable, but I still want to
thank you for at least taking the time to read and review my story.
I like reviews like these, even though it was criticizing, but at least you
took the time to review. Hopefully, if you ever do review again, which you
don’t have to do…it’s up to you, I hope we’re on better terms…
I’m sorry about everything.

Thanks for taking so much time to review my fic but please allow me to defend
myself on certain points you have accused me of.

For the dialogue mistake you pointed out, I didn’t realise that’s how it was
done. My teachers, since I could read and write, told me that I was doing it
alright. That’s they way they taught me. Even tutors in University and at my
writing course haven’t picked up on this. Sorry if that upsets you.

Secondly, the latter part of the story at the reunion is about Karma. Dawn may
be pretty after high school but she doesn’t make fun of the others for turning
out like they did, showing that despite her good looks and how rich she is,
she’s still a good person at heart. If you feel I ‘messed’ up an aesop then I
apologise again but I wasn’t going for the “It’s wrong to judge people based
on who’s pretty in high school, because what really matters is judging them
based on who’s pretty after high school!” message. I do feel as though you’ve
slightly missed the point with the whole “Next, you should write a story about
how it’s wrong to judge people just on the color of their skin when you could
be hating based on their ethnicity!” statement. That went a little too far for
my liking. It almost sounds like you’re accusing me of something more than
messing up an aesop and I don’t appreciate that one bit.

I hope I’ve been polite. I fully understand the criticism and after three
years of never getting anything right at Uni, I’m more than use to worse than
this, however, I do like to defend myself. I hope you find my next fics to
your liking, if not then I suggest that when you see my name on the feed you
should ignore me. Many thanks.

Subject: Thank you :)

A response to your review at http://www.fanfiction.net/r/7741120/

First off, I want to thank you for your critque of my story and setting it up
in a way that is easy to understand and the fact that it is not an attack. I
cannot stand when someone attacks another’s story without having valid points
or just because they can. I really, honestly do apperciate that. As people we
have a lot to learn, and I am no exception.

However, there are a few things I want to point out. I understand that I
shouldn’t capitialze such things as “pokemon professor” and other pokemon like
“charizard”, but I do that out of respect for them. It is a weird concept and
you may not agree with it, but I am not going to stop.

The Prologue, as I’ve called it and as you refer it to a waste of reader’s
time, is a throwback to the original games. When it would be a black screen
and Prof. Oak would ask you questions. Guess what? It still happens in the
games now, even though some of us older players already know what’s going to
happen. It’s irrelevant, but they still do it. I did this for the mere point
that maybe I want to introduce the story to someone who has no idea what
Pokemon is. It’s just an intro and a throwback.

You seem to bring up “raven haired” and “raven” and “blue
eyes” a lot. I use
these terms as descriptive terms. Along with “the Ushiwaka”. They are terms
describing who he is and how he looks. I find it very confusing in many
different stories when writers only use He/She, as with a group of people,
that can get extremely confusing. I do not know if you are an English Major,
but I am not. To me epithet means absolutely nothing, so I went and looked it
up. Yes, I see that it is a term meaning a byname or a descriptive term in
place of a name, but they were primarly used in Latin and Greek works, i.e.
the epics. Richard the Lionheart is an example. If Fayal is a black haired
boy, why can I not use “raven” as a substitue for him? Raven is a term other
than bird, meaning dark haired. I have seen it used in many other stories, and
I will be honest, you are the first to bring this to my attention.

On the subject of dialogue. I do understand your grammatical points, but the
way I do dialogue is the way I have always done dialogue. I write it as if it
were being spoken. In the sentence you provided for an example, she is
speaking softly and beginning her sentence. To me, “she began softly,” is a
perfect way to describe this, and that is merely what I am doing. I am
describing how they are speaking to each other.

If you do not like it, I’m sorry to say, but tough. That is my style of
writing and I do not plan to change anytime soon. My style is different, as is
everyone else’s, and there is nothing wrong with doing things differently.
Writers have done things differently throughout time itself and althought
others have seen it as wrong, some saw it as a new way of writing. Without
difference, we would not develop at all.

Fayal never seeing a Pokemon other than Zero, does make sense. It is not
explained in this chapter and that is the point. We are supposed to learn
about the characters over a period of time. Fayal has not seen a Pokemon
because his homeworld is run by Team Rocket and the Pokemon there are
nonexistant. Ante Town is also not a Pokemon centered Town, so they would not
necessarily have Pokemon running or flying around all the time.

Unfotunately, my writing will not be “fixed up”. I have written up to chapter
11 and I am extraordinarily pleased with how it has turned out. If you cannot
suffer to read through it, than please, move on. Thank you for taking the time
to review and critque my story. It is very nice to see someone actually
constructively critiquing rather than just flaming. Have a nice day, and I
hope you find a story more to your liking.

Subject: re: Your review to The Semantics of Romanticism

A response to your review at http://www.fanfiction.net/r/7740842/

Thank you for your detailed review!

Since I am not a native speaker, I was not aware of these (ridiculously
complicated) rules. I’ll try to follow them more closely from now on.

I agree with you on this one. Normally I don’t capitalise the term pokemon, I
guess it was my spell check acting on its own again.

On another note: I think it would be nice for your future reviews if you
included some feedback on the story itself, too, instead of merely commenting
on the author’s grammar and syntax. Fiction consists of more things than just
that. ;)
