Thank you for your review. I didn’t really put a lot of thought into the
story. I was just bored and haven’t uploaded anything in a while. Maybe I’ll
try to put some more thought into it.

I think I’m going to stick with the Stockholm comparison. His evil doesn’t so
much bling him to what Stockholm syndrome is as it does obscure the ability
that young trainers have to relate to their pokemon and blah blah blah. I sort
of elaborated. As far as the average trainer being unaware of evolution
methods, I figure most of the people you come across in the game aren’t career
trainers and they don’t know that much. I tried to fix the other stuff you
mentioned.

Then they reposted the whole thing because they had to make the huge change of putting in one line explaining why the scientists didn’t just torture the pokemon themselves.

I will lead of my reply with two things.
One, thank you for your avid and thoughtful review. All feedback really helps
and I greatly appreciate it.
Two, this is my worst chapter in a while. But I just wanted to get out there
after a couple edits (instead of my usual 6 or so). Outta sight outta mind
kinda thing.
Now let me start my responses.
I can tell you have a good solid grasp of grammar. But these are short
stories. There are rules in grammar you bypass for the audience’s sake.
For example, if I was writing a formal essay I would always use an active verb
to combine with ANY dialogue. But in a story, it’s less necessary when it’s
obvious the character is saying something, not exclaiming it or thinking it
(that’s what italics are for. It’s different for everyone, but italics 9/10
are canon for thought). And actually stating the “he said” can detract from
the story and bore the audience.
You are sorta right on non-speech verbs. Don’t abuse this tactic because then
it looks like you look like an incompetent and slightly dumb writer. But
saying, “‘Hello!’ he grinned” gives the audience a PICTURE of someone grinning
widely while greeting someone. It immediately sets the tone and mood until
there is an emotional switch in the story. In this case, it would set a
happy, light mood. There are other connotations to doing this, but I’m not
here to waste your time.
The mistake of me doing the speech-break was simply editing and proofreading
error. But again, you’re thinking too heavily on formal grammar. There are
things that are still proper grammar that are informal and you should NEVER
EVER EVER EVER NEVER use in a formal setting. But still yet they are proper
because they add to the tone of the story. It’s ok to not use a dash when
there is no speech verb. It sets a more smooth flow from one half of the
break to the other. Using a dash makes it sudden and harsh. Also the CAPSed
second half of the break is also not always canon. You can uncapitalize it to
emphasize that the subject was doing a non-speech action while talking. I’ll
provide examples:
” ‘Well, I would have to say,’ he looked up slowly and examined the faces in
the room, ‘that I disagree.’ “
” ‘HEY! Be quiet it’s not my-‘ she sneezed, ‘-Not my fault.” ‘
There are PLENTY more examples and exceptions though.
This is one thing I do criticize you on. No, I wouldn’t capitalize mouse,
dragon, etc. But a few things:
1) This is a fictional story. As the author, I set the ground rules for
fictional character capitalization.
2) All of the above things are proper nouns. I would capitalize a genus name,
a species name, and a family name. So these are actually supposed to be
capitalized. Even if Pokemon is a broad subject, saying pokemon is a
descriptive noun phrase used mainly as a predicate adjective.
3) There is actually NO rule in the English language that dictates when,
where, why, and how you should capitalize specific animal names. We say cat.
We say Siamese Cat.
4) Since all the characters I am referring to are exact and specific, and I am
making a fictional story, they are capitalized. When you read any well-done
medieval story, you here about the prince slaying The Dragon. Not the
dragon.
5) If I DON’T capitalize the names, it makes it seem like the Pokemon or
Professors are just any old professor or Pokemon. Since I am replacing their
names with their same name, I capitalize. It’s like in the games. Your mom
is called Mom. You never refer to her as mom. Always Mom.
Careful! Don’t be critical of techniques you don’t know yet. I don’t have
the full story out, so it seems like I spent too much time describing her.
But in reality that whole first part wasn’t just descriptions. But the
descriptions were spread out. Describing a character is always done in a more
threaded out way. As a matter of fact, I characterized Elesa TOO much in this
chapter. I can’t POSSIBLY characterize a main character in one paragraph, or
two, or even ten. I takes time. Heck some of the greatest stories in the
world take 15 chapters to get 80%ish of a characters descriptions out there!
Overall you have great points. But they, unfortunately, are in vain because
they don’t apply to my story. And remember. The English language is full of
nothing but exceptions.

Can you please stop reviewing just to tell people that their ‘grammar is
horrible’ and to ‘get a beta reader’? You can just pm them. You also don’t
have to be so rude about it. All you have to do is nicely say their mistakes,
such as:
‘You have quiet a bit of capitalization and punctuation errors. But that can
be fixed with a beta reader’. And anyway, aren’t you a beta reader yourself?
Why don’t you just offer to help fix their mistakes? Beta readers are supposed
to look at a story and point out their mistakes, and also help the person if
they need it, not say the same rule over and over and end it by rudely saying
‘get a beta.’ It makes me shake my head to see how rude people can sometimes
be. I hope you can change your ways. Thank you for your time and have a nice
day.

Thanks a lot for the feedback. ^^
The whole scene does go into too much detail, which I can agree with.
I probably should’ve clarified on the fact that she doesn’t use the wish at
all yet.
And accepting characters is just something I do. I’m generally really picky
with them and I’ve only accepted two so far, and I am typically good at
writing out other’s characters.
So, yeah. Thanks.

Thanks for teaching me some of that. I think that Pokemon should be
capitilized just because it is my preference and throughout reading some of
the releases from Viz and what not, “Pokemon” is capitlized. I understand
where you’re coming from with that, being that it is proper, but it is only my
preference.
I’m trying to make these a little bit longer because I’m trying to do it like
the movies have been done with usually dragged out openings. I like to extend
things like these kind of chapters because I want to make it more real. I
didn’t just want to be like: spot Lugia, shoot Lugia, die… Also I had a
limit whenever writing this story over a year ago and I had to always reach
that limit.
I’ll consider your feedback for later on chapters and stories so I do thank
you.

Thanks for pointing that out. I was about to upload my next chapter when I
read your review. I then went back and de-capitalized all the Pokemon names.
Also, I wasn’t stupid enough to de-capitalize the given name of Paras that I
reveal in this chapter.
Oh, and sorry about the lack of action. If you’ve ever read any book over 300
pages, (i.e. Eragon) the first few chapters are always like that. I will try
to make sure to put in some more action in chapters to come.
Thanks for the review!

I do take in what you said in the first paragraph. I have always capitalized
most nouns. It was how I was taught. To name the name of a person, place or
beings. I think I know what you are getting at though, it would be like saying
Bear instead of bear. The names of pokemon should be capitalized because it is
a name describing a group. Pikachu is the name of the pokemon and therefore
should be capitalized. Pokemon should be capitalized because it is a noun
describing the whole of a mass group. For example, for the first one it would
be as if I called you farla, you are the Farla and a Farla, you should be
capitalized. For the second one, it would be as if i said ‘links crew’. The
name becomes less than a name. If I put ‘Links Crew’ it is the name of the
crew/group/organization/etc.
Using “Hello.” gives it the deadpan sound or the sound with a short pause. It
is the same as using “!” because both are punctuation marks. With the sentence
break up, the second sentence is a continuation of the first word or sentence.
giving it the ability to not have to be capitalized.
Anyways, thanks for the review
