Hullo~ I hope you remember me from around last year? You probably don’t… But
whatever.

In regards to your review to my story:

For starters, thank you. The review you gave last year helped, as did this
one.

However, everywhere I go capitalizes Pokemon names. Bulbapedia capitalizes
Pokemon names. The manga capitalizes Pokemon names. The games THEMSELVES
capitalize Pokemon names. I believe I am not incorrect.

Also: I’ve seemed to notice something. In every review you’ve submitted to the
public, you say the SAME EXACT THING. It’d be nice if you, you know, put some
heart into the reviews you give?

An interesting thing I’ve read for critisism would be adding two positive
features of the story for every negative one. That way your reviews would be
more personal, and not as percieved as flames by others. You DO help.
…Helped me, at least. xD

Thank you, really. You did help. The tone of the review could be different,
and the wording would be more help.

I do hope you take the time to read this and (Hopefully) respond. It’d be
interesting having a conversation with you. :)

Best wishes,

-Sapph

Oh goddamnit, not you again.
Do I need to tell you again that Pokemon and all of the 649 Pokemon should be
capitalized. Pokemon is the name of the franchise. Just like you wouldn’t say
starbucks, you’d say Starbucks. You obviously have not been playing Pokemon
that long to not know this.
I appreciate your dialogue advice, I’ll take that into consideration. Other
then that, my thanks for your review.

This story is different, but i think you need more action and less about all
the districts and less about foxface. next time you should add a surprise,
something to make the reader wanna keep reading untill the end!

Subject: Thanks for the reviews

Note that I wrote that first chapter about a year and a half ago, and I forgot
to re-read it before posting it. I fixed most of the errors you mentioned, but
I might’ve missed a few. Dialogue grammar is my biggest weak point. XD

You’re right about that tangent; I usually don’t do anything like that these
days unless I really need to.

As for the whole “joking while people are burning to death” thing, I think
that’s looking a little bit too far into it… Ian is just as bad as who?
Giro? It isn’t Giro’s town; he doesn’t have to care. And Ian had better things
to think about at that moment than calling Giro a bastard because he made a
slightly offensive joke. I mean, he was running for his life. I don’t think he
would care that much right then.

As for the author’s notes thing on the second chapter, I admit that I can get
pretty bad about that. XD Especially when I’m tired. I re-wrote both of those
chapters notes to make them a bit shorter. By the way, I write those after
I’ve already uploaded the finished chapter, so don’t think I’m not focusing on
the story itself. The Author’s Notes are just an after thought. I’m good at
writing a lot of useless walls of text. x’D

Anyway, thanks for reviewing! If you plan to read the rest of the story, I
hope you enjoy it! If not, thanks for your help. You made my chapters better
because of it. :)

Oh, for the love of Pete. I write these disclaimers in the hope that people
will just accept that there’s nothing canon about it. It was a Pokemon RP, and
I’d written the fic for it. I will never understand what unwritten law bans
people from writing their own spins on things, and what compels people to
b*tch indiscriminately about it, when there are enough trolls and writers who
just flat-out don’t try to make this site a shadow of what it used to be. But
nobody ever comments on that. It’s just when you’re no longer in the canon.

I can hardly feel sorry if you hate something you’ve been fairly warned
about.

Thanks for reviewing!

Thank you for the review, I think I have made all the corrections you pointed

Thank you for the kind and detailed review. I just want to answer a few things
beforehand to hopefully clear up things:

/Actually animals totally do that too, except when they decide to tear someone
to shreds, it’s not a metaphor. Anyone who’s a trainer dealing with pokemon
should have had the idea only humans can be mean beaten out of them years
ago./

She isn’t talking about animals in that sense. She’s really speaking more
about humanity as a whole. I think of it more along the lines that she didn’t
have any idea how cruel humanity could be. Another thing to consider is that
she doesn’t own an animalistic Pokemon. It’s more like a plant that wouldn’t
actively hunt prey in its current state (as a Cacturne, it would, but not as a
Cacnea.)

/You wouldn’t capitalize animal or mouse or dragon, so you shouldn’t
capitalize words like pokemon or pikachu or charizard. The only time you
should capitalize it is if you’re using it as the pokemon’s name, ie, Ash’s
pikachu is called Pikachu. This is because you only capitalize when it’s a
proper noun, which are the names of places or things. Similar reasoning should
be applied to any other words you’re thinking of capitalizing, like telephone
or trainer. Or professor./

I understand your reasoning and under most circumstances, you’d be absolutely
right. However, after reading several threads on that topic (on sites such as
Serebii), I can honestly say that there truly isn’t a wrong way to spell
things like “Pokemon” or “Charizard”. That is the author’s
preference. I will
say that I don’t capitalize things like “potion” or “pokeball”, so I
hope that
will suffice.

/He’s likely killing them still, just indirectly. There’s only limited
territory available. Forcing pokemon out of their current homes doesn’t create
new areas for them to live, it just means the same number of pokemon are now
competing for less space. Either they fail to find new homes and die or they
kick another pokemon out of its home to die./

That’s another very good point. Still, look at who’s speaking. Her brother,
being a farmer and a trainer, likely knows that they’ll die off, but he
wouldn’t say that to her. He’d much rather lie to protect her (as evidenced by
the fact that he knew the people who attacked him, when she didn’t have a clue
who they were) – and he’s probably the one person that she trusts.

/This is a different opening than the usual, but it’s frustratingly vague. I’m
sure that was intended but think it’s going too far – I have little sense of
where this story’s going, if the next chapter will be interesting or tiresome.
Having characters have some background they don’t want to talk about but is
going to be important is great, but having that be the only plotline of your
first chapter is less of a great idea./

I have to agree with you on that. It is a very vague opening, and while it was
intentional, I agree that I could have made it a little less frustrating for a
reader such as yourself. For that, I apologize.

Again, thank you for taking the time to review my story in such a detailed
fashion. It really helps me out.

Sincerely,

Mem.

Subject: Re: Different Eyes

A response to your review at http://www.fanfiction.net/r/7770752/

Thank you, Farla, I appreciate the time taken to review my fic. However, while
critique is welcomed, I disagree with a number of your points, which I do not
feel are adequately justified. If you don’t mind, I will present reasoning for
my choice to disregard them, so that you won’t think I am simply ignoring your
review.

[I really don’t see why it’d give her breasts. Breasts are a minor quirk of
human evolution, not found in anything else close to us. If she’s keeping all
that major stuff, why wouldn’t she also keep the standard system of being
flatchested unless nursing? ]

The existence of the pokemorphs necessitates that I disregard genetics
entirely, so whether or not the female characters have breasts is entirely an
authorial choice, with little to no bearing on the story itself. I can, if
pressed, provide adequate justification, such as “they have breasts in order
that human Syndicate employees may more easily recognise the gender of the
morphs.” I also suspect creatures like pokemorphs are easier to identify with
for humans if they possess primary sexual characteristics such as breasts.
Perhaps a more cynical but equally valid argument is that the creators of the
morphs are simply perverts. It really does not matter as anything more than an
aesthetic choice.

[Shoes are actually pretty awesome things. It’s not that humans have different
feet than everything else and need shoes to function, it’s that wearing shoes
was so much of an improvement it became widespread. ]

There are a number of reasons why I consciously decided against shoes.
Firstly, because tailoring shoes for each individual morph’s feet — which I
remind you are digitigrade, not plantigrade — seems an extravagance, if it
were truly feasible at all, which I doubt. Secondly, a morph’s foot is equally
suited to any terrain as a pokemon’s, and shoes would be an unnecessary
expense, possibly with a net negative effect; a cat’s padded paw seems
preferable over footwear to me.

[If the clothing thing is just a modesty issue, there’s not reason to give her
full covering and long pants instead of a short skirt. If it’s a practical
issue as well, shoes are very practical. ]

In terms of modesty, I find that a short skirt would be distinctly
objectifying, and I feel that choosing to issue female morphs with them would
be unwise choice, given the probable social consequences of such an action. I
would prefer to have gender-neutral uniforms issued than arbitrary skirts for
creatures raised without human gender tropes.

In terms of practicality, I believe trousers are more practical than skirts.
I’m fairly certain that no female in the armed forces would wish to be issued
a skirt. I admit there are some historical exemptions to the wearing of
trousers in military organisations, ancient Rome in particular, but a skirt,
especially a short one, still seems to me to be an especially useless thing to
wear if one intends to ever leave an urban environment.

[You’ve got some minor proofreading errors, and then this, where I’m not even
sure what you were trying to say.]

Fair enough, the wording is awkward in that sentence; I’m surprised none of my
beta readers picked up on it. I’m using a consistent analogy of water for
thought processes, and in this case, I am comparing a rush of several thoughts
to white-rapids. i.e. overwhelming, loud and possibly painful if immersed.

Disagreement on suggestions aside, I’m entirely willing to respond to your
queries.

[Hm. That’s a very different direction to take this. ]

To answer the implied question: Salem, much like the ubiquitous meowth of the
anime, has always wished to become more like human role models. This, among
other things, partially accounts for her relatively immediate eloquence.

[Also hm. Is he just making an analogy to calm her down, or is it actually
true that she’d adjust to her new body quickly in the same way as a pokemon
adjusts to a new form they get from evolution? ]

I feel it necessary for morphs to adapt quickly to their new forms, human
speech etc, so, yes.

[So she can’t evolve again, or just that her evolution wouldn’t reset her back
to a full persian? I’m assuming it’s the former.]

She may evolve, but only the meowth portion of her DNA would undergo the
process. She would remain hybridised, and become a persian pokemorph. This, of
course, is an extraordinarily painful experience, given the rigidity of her
human genes. It is the aforementioned humanity that is permanent. This will be
addressed in greater detail in the fic.

[That sounds very interesting. How’d they manage that – are humans able to
communicate with pokemon to some degree, or do they have first-gen pokemorphs
doing the questioning? Is it their own choice or do pokemon have legal rights
protecting them from things like this unless they consent? ]

Having bilingual morphs translate is the most sensible solution, but in my
interpretation of the universe, highly experienced trainers can understand
pokemon speech to a limited extent. Having said that, all that’s theoretically
necessary is that the prospective morph is given a crude explanation, and
consents by something as simply as raising a paw. Pokemon are shown to have
perfectly adequate cognitive abilities, after all. Salem’s consent, and the
consent of others, is another issue to be addressed in more detail.

[Really? It seems kind of clear when she’s thinking about always wanting
fingers or [Salem felt a tiny shuddering thrill run up her spine at having
spoken. She’d spoken, in human tongue, clearly and without awkwardness. She
grinned. ] and such. Or does it just mean she thinks there’s some additional
reason? ]

Salem has amnesia with regard to the details of her history. It does not
follow that her attitudes, desires and so on are also forgotten. They are
internalised, separate from sequential memory. Yes, clearly she wants to be
more human, but that’s not a simple issue, and she now has to come to terms
with it and accept it a second time.

Thanks again for your time in reviewing, I hope you continue to enjoy future
chapters.
-J

They have breasts so their sex can be identified at a distance + skirts would be objectifying is telling me way, way more about the author’s mindset than I ever wanted to know.

It’s still well written enough to stay in the C2, but it’s off my favorites list. Ick.

I find this comment funny because few readers figured out that LoveLoverGrl’s popular stories are literally carbon copy of other works. Her “Flipped” story = Flipped book with Pokemon character names, exact same words.

Thanks for being one of the few sane people who could tell that one-shot was awful (besides you, only six of 18 people pointed out it was full of mistakes). Sometimes I feel some writers don’t read their own stories at all… To make it worse, I am quite sure several reviewers don’t read the stories they comment. That’s scary.

(I mean, what else would explain reviews like “it’s not plagiarism, its awusum
fic!!1!”, “ignore meanie comments, theyre not helpful theyre jealus of
u”, “Hey, that horrible sentence is the greatest line I have ever
    read”?)

    1. Farla says:

I’m almost certain those are fake reviews. She’s getting way more than any other story around is, and they all sound the same.

    2. Ember says:

:D!  I wrote a review of that book for my middle school news broadcast!  I got five dollars for it!  To date, the only bit of writing I have ever been paid for…

Farla, you might like it.  The heroine keeps chickens.

Her answer was basically “I like boobs.”

    1. Farla says:

      His. It’s a boy.

(You can often tell because a girl would be less creepy and yet also less evasive about it.)

      1. Act says:

So his answer was literally, “I like boobs.”

        1. Kirai-Ninja says:

If you actually read it, his answer was: A)they have breasts because the scientists and employees working with them identify ‘female’ as ‘with breasts’. In addition, you can argue that the scientists are perverts, which he explicitly stated. Its not a perverted statement – its an observation on the perverted desire for human beings to sexualize anthromorphic being and aliens – one only has to glance at the females of a Star Trek Alien to see that desire.

There was no simple “I like boobs.”

In addition a skirt IS impractical when these are combat trained soldiers who will be in COMBAT. Flowy skirts get in the way of movement and provide no protection what’s so ever. Pants protect the skin, provide warmth, and are logically sound to move and fight in. How is sticking a short skirt on a Pokemon who will be running and fighting anything but degrading?

          1. Kirai-Ninja says:

In addition, there is scientific evidence that humans identify more closely with beings who look more like them. Females without breasts are looked at oddly and without as much empathy as other females.Beyond that, the addition of breasts because of the human DNA is scientifically sound – humans store milk in their breasts, in order to free space for the heart, lungs, and the ribcage and sternum.
Do you know where cats store theirs?Inside sack-like muscles and bags called ducts on the inside of their chest cavity. A humanoid figure does not have room for the necessary organs and bones inside of the chest-cavity as well as the milk ducts of a cat while maintaining their humanoid figure, while still suppling the much larger body with blood, oxygen and nutrients AND the possibility of milking in case of pregnancy. Breasts are a human necessity for breeding, not a simple genetic quirk.
I’m an animal scientist, I think I know more about this than you or Farla do. One of my good friends and colleagues is focusing on Animal Reproductive physiology.

              1. Kirai-Ninja says:

Firstly, that link is from Softpedia. That is NOT a scientific journal and all you have to do is look at the first few comments to see that plenty of other people have objected to the FALSE science. That is a software downloading website. I love how you think a casual google search on and a link from an internet downloading site makes you more intelligent and learned than people who have actually studied this.

Second, of course I know that you are not full of milk all the time, did you think I wouldn’t check my facts when I was dealing with as rude and judgemental a person as you? Human females have milk DUCTS. They don’t go away when you’re not using them. In addition to the milk ducts, you have fats to supply energy, tissues, and blood vessels to provide blood.

Monkeys and apes do not have giant breasts but they do /have them/ and the proof of that is in this picture: http://pubpages.unh.edu/~jel/images/bonobo_mom_baby.jpg

So thank you for deciding that I must be ignorant because I’ve done actual studies and actual research on the subjects of which I speak. Because the internet is ALWAYS right and it never has misinformation.

[Thank you for reinforcing the stereotype that “animal scientist” is a meaningless title for people too stupid to get near the real sciences.]

I suppose doctors, ecologists, and anthropologists are stupid as well? Every single one of those careers can be reached with the a degree in Animal Science and the appropriate support courses. Animal Science is a real science and animal scientist is a very real study of species non-human in nature. You should be careful, your ignorance is showing.

              2. Kirai-Ninja says:

But it doesn’t really matter. You’re depressingly transparent. As soon as I point out that the author said something that negates one of your points, you pretend it doesn’t exist. As soon as I bring up my confidentials and conclusively show that I’m more knowledgable about the subjects you claim to know, you dismiss the entire field as stupid. This isn’t an argument. This is me talking at a child who’s plugged her ears with false superiority and feigned intelligence.

You have no evidence, you have no arguments, you have no expertise, you have no logic. All you have is bile and insults. I can get enough of that from trolls without the pretension of unproven intellect or talent. You have nothing, and I’m done with wasting my time on nothing.

When talking about human breasts I said they are full of fat, milk ducts, and  blood vessels which is true.

          2. Farla says:

And the problem would be that he thinks that’s a minor quirk as opposed to horrifying. If this was a human who woke up to find out that after surgery they’d gained five cup sizes, would “oh I guess the surgeon just likes those, whatever” seem like a okay response? If they were waking up with giant dicks I’m sure he’d see a problem.
In addition a skirt IS impractical when these are combat trained soldiers who will be in COMBAT.

My, then it sure would have been good to say that, instead of blather about them being degrading.

Also, no, they’re not. Again, this is what people wore for most of human history. A long skirt or anything frilly is impractical. A short skirt is impractical if it’s cold. If you have fur, or if it’s hot out in general, pants are terrible. All it is is immodest – and that, frankly, just gets us right back to why covering up every inch of their legs is so vitally important.

How is sticking a short skirt on a Pokemon who will be running and fighting anything but degrading?

Your body should not be inherently degrading and something you need to hide. The only reason for a skirt to be bad is if you’re forced in it so someone else can oogle you, and it’s not like being told to cover your whole body because it’s disgusting is any better. The character in this story does not have any hangups about clothes because she’s spent her life naked, as have all the other pokemon. The only reason they’d mind skirts is if the people involved are making it sexual – which, apparently, is what the author’s doing.

I’ve worn skirts and dresses since I was a little kid, and I was an active little kid. It wasn’t degrading. It’s disgusting people think this.

            1. Kirai-Ninja says:

[And the problem would be that he thinks that’s a minor quirk as opposed to horrifying.]

First off, in reading your review I noted that /you/ thought it was a minor quirk. The author didn’t think anything of it beyond basic biology and a desire for a more humanoid physiology.

I talked about the physicality of givng Salem breasts already. If you have objections to that information, please say so.

[If this was a human who woke up to find out that after surgery they’d gained five cup sizes, would “oh I guess the surgeon just likes those, whatever” seem like a okay response? If they were waking up with giant dicks I’m sure he’d see a problem.]

Secondly, you’re assuming that Salem has huge breasts. All the chapter mentions is that she has an enlargement of her chest area – considering that cats do not have any sort of breast, ANY cup size would be an enlargement for her. More over, its not being treated as side note – its just treated as a part of her being partially human now.

You are the one assuming she has massive breasts – as the unrepentantAuthor has already informed you that he is asexual, I am going to believe that it is /you/ who is hung up on the idea of Pokemon with breasts.

[My, then it sure would have been good to say that, instead of blather about them being degrading.]

              { In terms of modesty, I find that a short skirt would be distinctly objectifying, and I feel that choosing to issue female morphs with them would be unwise choice, given the probable social consequences of such an action. I would prefer to have gender-neutral uniforms issued than arbitrary skirts for creatures raised without human gender tropes. In terms of practicality, I believe trousers are more practical than skirts. I’m fairly certain that no female in the armed forces would wish to be issued a skirt. I admit there are some historical exemptions to the wearing of trousers in military organizations, ancient Rome in particular, but a skirt, especially a short one, still seems to me to be an especially useless thing to wear if one intends to ever leave an urban environment.}

The author did talk about that. You probably ignored it because you were caught up in your own pre-determined judgement.

Slapping a short skirt on a Pokemon can be degrading and it is highly impractical. If you’re objecting to the biological component of Pokemon having breasts how do you think other people would react to them having short skirts on? Like it or not, in combat and in running, skirts ride up, revealing flesh which is immodest to a HUMAN perspective. When you consider that it is the human’s of the stories decision to give all the morph’s pants and shirts it makes perfect sense that they as HUMANS would want to impose a human’s sense of physical dignity and modesty.

[Your body should not be inherently degrading and something you need to hide. ]

My point was not that your body should be inherently degrading – my point was that putting a skirt on a woman who will be jumping, fighting, and doing other physical actions that can cause a skirt to ride up or flip is just asking for a panty shot. And that /is/ degrading.

[The only reason for a skirt to be bad is if you’re forced in it so someone else can oogle you, and it’s not like being told to cover your whole body because it’s disgusting is any better.]

The author is making the executive decision to REMOVE the possibility of e ogling and sexual degradation from the story, that is the point of the lack of skirts. And how would a choice of forcing all the female Pokemon to wear skirts have been any better? As far as this story is concerned, all the Pokemon wear a pants and shirt uniform, they are not told to cover their entire body, just enough to be practical and modest to a human’s perspective. Salem did not choose her clothes – they were given to her.

You have not chosen to respond to my point that Salem is going to be trained for combat – No military unit in the modern world forces its female soldiers to wear skirts. The author explicits states this in his own comment to your review as well.

[I’ve worn skirts and dresses since I was a little kid, and I was an active little kid. It wasn’t degrading. It’s disgusting people think this.]

Being an active small child is very different from being a physically active woman. The author said that it would objectifying to place a skirt on the female ‘morphs and this is true because it is making an exception for them solely on the basis of gender. There is no logical reason to give Salem a skirt, so giving her one would be making a far more sexual statement than not giving her one.

Yes – so it would be like someone increasing my existing breasts from not huge to huge. Worse, they’re obviously relatively big if the author thinks they’re going to let someone identify female from male at a glance, because a slight enlargement wouldn’t do that.

The author did talk about that. You probably ignored it because you were caught up in your own pre-determined judgement.

No, he didn’t. You keep coming back to the idea he said they would be in combat, but that paragraph is just talking about social modesty.

Etc, etc. You’re clearly the one who’s started from the position the guy can’t be wrong. I liked the story and assumed the breast thing was a minor thing that he put there because he knew humans had breasts. The rest is entirely due to the creepfest that was the response.

              2. Kirai-Ninja says:

Any shirt, especially one designed for males that is not a shapeless bag can let you see at a glance if a person has boobs. They don’t have to be huge to let you see that. As long as you’re not wearing a shapeless sack or thick clothing, its very easy to see the curve that breasts give to the human female figure. The breast expansion is something I’m coming back to because I feel that you’re regarding the author as a pervert over a few words in a chapter that was 3k in length. The response to you was a creepfest in what way? In that he mentioned that scientists – and humans – can in fact be squicky and perverted? The idea to give the female Pokemorphs breasts was as mentioned, one he decided on without needing to think about it – basic human biology demands that humanoids with human DNA have them.

I’m not saying that unrepentantAuthor can’t be wrong – I’m saying that when it comes to simple biology and practicality in combat clothing, he’s right.

And I keep coming back to the idea that the Morphs will be in combat because as I’ve spoken with the author myself, I know this story will be heading in that direction, which is implied in the chapter itself which talks about training for the Pokemorphs.

Finally, I’d like to ask why you seem so upset about this issue. Is it because I’m arguing with you or because you’re honestly disturbed by your perception of the author?

              3. Farla says:

Willful stupidity upsets me. I’m funny like that.

Yes, that’s right, refuse to provide a reasoned response when you think you’ll lose the argument. You should never admit to being wrong!

  3. Ember says:

Oh my God, so much crazy.

“when i read it i felt old”

It would be interesting to know what they meant by this!

“i think you need more action and less about all

the districts and less about foxface”

“I think that this story about a certain character needs to have less about that character!”

“As for the whole “joking while people are burning to death” thing, I think

that’s looking a little bit too far into it… Ian is just as bad as who?

Giro? It isn’t Giro’s town; he doesn’t have to care.”

This logic is terrifying and this person is terrifying for having it.

    “primary sexual characteristics”

    Sex ed fail. :(

“It really does not matter as anything more than an

    aesthetic choice.”

Why do so many people think that fanfic is a visual medium?

What, exactly, do you think it says about their mindset?  I can’t even make sense of it.

    1. Farla says:

What, exactly, do you think it says about their mindset? I can’t even make sense of it.

Women are first and foremost defined by sexual availability, even when that’s not even in the ballpark of what’s going on. It’s important that he be able to identify which ones are female at a glance (no homo!), but something like a skirt is “suggestive” because it’s female clothing and it’s easier to fuck them in it. (I actually meant they should all be wearing skirts… I mean, there’s a reason that was the basic clothing for most of human history) It’s the polar opposite of what I meant, which was if the point of it is modesty, then they just need strips of clothing to cover the relevant bits. Apparently modesty requires women cover everything down to the ankle now.

It’s like, I really liked Escaflowne. And Merle, the catgirl, was really cute! She wore a short shift. It’s entirely possible someone was thinking the short shift was great fanservice, but it covered her up properly without putting a focus on her body and it made sense she wouldn’t wear more extensive clothing when she was covered in fur and really acrobatic and had a tail. If you look at Merle and say she’s wearing suggestive clothing and needs to wear pants so you stop having bad thoughts about her, this is saying more about you than the outfit.

And just look at how he talks about how “maybe” they have breasts for this reason or that reason. The possibility that someone is sticking breasts on transformed pokemon just for wanking reasons – god, that’s disgusting. “Oh hey so we gave you your sex reassignment surgery, and also I threw in an extra gallon of saline because I like big titties lol.” Or the idea people wouldn’t identify with them unless they had boobies, though apparently men don’t run into this problem, which is pretty much the attitude that women only deserve to get treated with the slightest consideration if they’re fuckable. Flat chested? No one cares about you because they aren’t interested in convincing you to have sex later.

      1. Ember says:

Ah, it all makes sense now!

      2. Act says:

The furry-porn/beastiality subtext was insanely creepy and disturbing.

        1. Farla says:

The worst part was there wasn’t any subtext I noticed in the actual story. I was just objecting to breasts on biological grounds.

        2. AmusedAnon says:

What subtext did you see? I read the ficlet and aside from one tiny comment about an “enlargement” I didn’t see any beastiality/Pokephile/whatever subtext.

  4. R0-S3 says:

Hi! I’m a friend of unrepentantAuthor’s – but before you jump to any conclusions, I’d like to stress that I’m not going to shout at you for reviewing stuff critically (bit of pot calling kettle black, what?) or for thinking he’s creepy (which was a fairly reasonable reaction to that PM). I’m here to try to defuse a situation which I inadvertently caused by being too stupid to realise that if I linked him to this page he would get angry and want to start an argument. Well done, Self, you get more autistic every day.
I happen to agree with you about the breasts, and I’m pretty sure that the only reason Jack came off as creepy was because he’s a member of the Anti-Farla Association and didn’t want to admit that you could be right about anything. If I’d been the one to mention it, I’m almost certain he’d have conceded the point and made the change.
(If I may speak in my defence, Yeronner, it was phrased a lot more innocuously in the version I read, and it wasn’t until he rephrased it and added the … that I realised OH SHIT HE’S REFERRING TO BOOBS.)
Regarding the clothing… a skirt would probably make sense, actually, or at least a one-size-fits-all-shapes smock that could be issued to all the morphs until they made a decision regarding their personal preferences in clothing and individual outfits could be tailored for them.
As an attempt at justification: the Perihelion Syndicate is the fic’s Team Evil, and that the outfit Salem was issued was probably a version of their uniform rather than being purely for modesty’s sake, or a regular outfit similar to the uniform intended to get her used to the whole concept of wearing clothes before she becomes a member of Team Evil and gets a uniform fo realz.
In addition, skirts are considered to be female clothing (the Romans may have worn them, but the Romans are all dead), and the Syndicate is probably uncomfortable with issuing them to males. They may be abominations of science, but by golly by gum those pokemorphs are going to wear clothing suitable to their gender!

    1. Farla says:

Eh, it’s fine. This isn’t supposed to be the super secret clubhouse where we talk about people without them ever finding out.

I’m pretty sure that the only reason Jack came off as creepy was because he’s a member of the Anti-Farla Association and didn’t want to admit that you could be right about anything

That doesn’t really help with the reasons he gave, but it does make me feel better about how apparently he didn’t hear anything else I said, like responding to “cat pads aren’t actually that different than human feet” with “they don’t need shoes because cat pads are different than human feet”.

In addition, skirts are considered to be female clothing (the Romans may have worn them, but the Romans are all dead),

…I don’t know why you guys keep coming back to the Romans, though. The Romans were not a weird blip. Pants are in the modern day, in many areas considered female clothing, and most of that is just because they’re considered so in Western culture which gets imposed on a lot of other places, and even still stuff like kilts persist. For most of human history, pants didn’t even exist.

Which isn’t to say they can’t insist on the boys wearing pants, just that in terms of practicality and complaint, the boys wearing pants would be in a similar position to girls being told to wear ankle-length skirts for horseback riding: uncomfortable, confused, irritated, and prone to wearing the alternative whenever they can get away with it.

      1. R0-S3 says:

It wasn’t so much ‘oh shit I let him into the secret clubhouse’ as ‘oh shit he’s going to throw a tantrum and I need to prevent him from making a fool of himself on the internet’. Although given the PM he sent I am NOT SURE HOW WELL THAT WORKED and this is a lesson to us all that I should never be allowed within fifty meters of a conciliatory quadrant.

It wasn’t supposed to help with the reasons, they were pretty unjustifiable.

I don’t know why we keep coming back to the Romans, either. That line didn’t really make much sense, I don’t know why I wrote it.
I agree with what you’re saying! I was just mentioning that trousers are generally considered unisex. I know that’s Western culture, but the Pokeverse seems wait what am I doing why am I trying to argue the side I disagree with.

        1. Farla says:

Oh, he hasn’t actually done that badly. And even his other friends…well, this is actually the norm for things. People have been unusually chill this month.

It’s a shame, normally I’d be happy with pants for all. It’s just – people who’ve never worn clothes at all and still have tails? Skirts alllllll the way.

          1. Anon says:

You never actually suggested skirts for all because of tails. You simply stated Salem should have a short skirt. Do you not see that just stating that the female character needs a short skirt sounds ridiculously perverted?
(Also, now you’ve me me imagine nidoking morphs or similar wearing skits and it is fucking hysterical.  That’s an absurd assertion, that anyone could take an army of morphs wearing skirts seriously.)

            1. Veracs says:

“That’s an absurd assertion, that anyone could take an army of morphs wearing skirts seriously.”
