Last time on how much worse can this get, we find out they’re going to dissect Rose’s body and apparently that’s horrible because everyone in this has no sense of perspective.
Last time on all the books people want banned for all the stupid reasons, and yet they have no problem with this, Cecily was raped but it’s okay, she wanted it.
Last time on this horrible book, Cecily is now pregnant from being raped. Rhine grudgingly acknowledges that maybe Cecily is deserving of slight sympathy, then goes back to explaining that the real issue is Cecily not being properly fawning toward the servants and also she’s so whiny just because she’s scared she’ll die! It’s so hard being Rhine and having to put up with this.
Last time on why am I even doing this, it’s the same thing as every other time, everything is horrible while the book insists it isn’t. That’s it. That’s every chapter of this book.
Last time on this horrible book, there was a storm and Rhine talks about how awesome the rapist is and almost kisses him.
Last time on rape rape rape rape, many things happened and then finally Rhine tried to run away. She sees the end of the garden in the distance, then something clocks her on the head.
Last time on proof the world sucks, Rhine wakes up after trying to escape to hear evil mad scientist monologue at her while she emos about how because she tried to escape exactly once with no plan at the worst time and failed, she’ll never be able to escape.
Last time on this will hit bottom eventually, right? Rhine keeps waking up to find the rapist sleeping next to her because he’s creepy, so she tells the little girl he raped to distract him so she can have some peace. Then she kisses Gabriel and there’s horrible talk of rivers.
“Didn’t you order that van full of girls?” I say.
“My father did,” he says. “But before that, what made you want to be a bride?”
