The Host! This is by the Twilight author. I was not expecting much from this book, but when I checked out the opening I was first surprised to discover I could actually read it, followed by being surprised what I was reading wasn’t awful.
It’s apparently about what happens after an Invasion of the Body-snatchers affair where the aliens have won, which is also way more original than I would’ve thought – although thinking about it, Twilight actually does a lot of twists on the supernatural, it’s just awful about them. So maybe she got all the unreadable boring out of her system with that one. (Plus, they’re brain aliens, so there almost certainly won’t be any disturbing race issues to stumble into.)
