Dresden Files Storm Front Ch22

So last time, Harry, having insisted that he had to lie to everyone because no one could help has this flaw backfire…on Murphy.

Harry, being all white knighty, is now rushing back to his office so he can rescue her from something that wouldn’t have happened if he hadn’t decided to pick every last asshole response in the dialogue tree.

Point is, Murphy has been damseled good. (more…)

Dresden Files Storm Front Ch23

So the reason this is so late is because it’s a terrible chapter, I wrote it up twice, lost it both times, and needed a good sulk at the world’s unfairness before I could get back to it.

When last we left Our Hero, he’d crushed a giant magic undead scorpion and I was explaining how crushed is still usable, go scrape up some scorpion chunks for your spell. (more…)

Dresden Files Storm Front Ch25

So hey guys. We are nearing the end of this terrible thing, and you’ve produced foefic and not all of you want to post it yourselves for some mysterious reason. Roarke’s said to post theirs, so I’d like to extend that offer to the rest of the snippets – stick them together in a mass of gay and evil and/or incompetent Harry, credited to you by name or as anonymous not wanting to admit their shameful fanficing. Comment if you approve of us polluting the fandom together. It’ll be on AO3, so I can add your name when you change your mind and accept you fanficced and are now a fanficcer forever and ever and ever and want your deserved credits.

And of course, anyone else who’s already posted should mention it about now so we can all kudos you.

Back to the thing I’m slogging through,

The Sight of Victor’s lake house will always be with me. It was an abomination.

Harry’s still on about this, and he’s still being boring as fuck about it. (more…)

Dresden Files Storm Front Ch27

Final chapter! And no, I still don’t know what’s up with 27 chapters popping up all the time.

Morgan’s face was over mine, and I realized he’d been giving me CPR. Eww.

Harry really needs to have one of those wrist bracelets: Allergic to non-hot-chick CPR, may provoke fatal attack of no homo.

“I did what I could,” Morgan said, “but there were no hot chicks around and I had to respect his wishes. Let us take consolation in the fact he died as he lived: stupidly.” (more…)

Dresden Files Storm Front Actual Rewrite Part 3

And we’re done!

So, I said at the beginning that I’d do the final novel of the first Exalted trilogy to punish you all for voting for it, and I think amply demonstrated why. But! New pokemon game’s coming out.

Instead, I think I’m going to just do comics and random things and maybe some Korra, then new game for a bit. Or maybe it’ll just be Reconstruction posts to finish that out, we’ll find out! January will be pokemon fanfic and rage, in accordance with the prophesy.

After all that, we’ll do what the poll says. Which is currently more Dresden, which I take to mean you guys really, really want to hear the ending of Exalted’s +1 sword saga. (more…)

Chronicles of Prydain

The Mabinogion is a collection of several prose stories which were found in medieval Welsh manuscripts (written sometime around the 12th-13th centuries), but were actually based on an older oral tradition (although we’re still discussing exactly how old). It was first fully translated into English by Lady Charlotte Guest, scholar of Welsh language and literature, in the 19th century. Besides just being a very good read, this book would prove very influential in literary studies about the Arthurian mythos – and (more relevantly for this post) would also inspire the fantasy series The Chronicles of Prydain, written by American author Lloyd Alexander during the sixties (the first book was written in 1964, the fifth and last one in 1968).

Children of the Dragon, Ch1

I decided to get on with the final book of the first Exalted trilogy!

The cover is depicting the climatic battle of Yuyu vs Ratcatcher, where for some reason both of them have apparently thrown away their soulsteel and orichalcum swords (after all the trouble of getting the +1 sword!) and either picked up mortal weapons or maybe white jadesteel ones. (more…)

The Magicians, by Lev Grossman

For my second post as a full member of this blog I wanted to talk about A Penny for My Thoughts, another game of Evil Hat Productions which pushes the boundaries of the genre and is more like an exercise in creative writing than a traditional RPG.But I am sick now and have a violent cough, which means I can’t smoke, which, in turn, irritates me to no end. So let’s instead talk about something I hate, since negative emotions are the best cure to any illness known to me.

Let’s talk about Harry Potter Without Voldemort, or How I Learned That You Can’t Punch Ennui in the Face.

The Masquerade, by Vasili Rijikov. Prologue-Chapter 1

A story about vampires called The Masquerade? Sounds familiar. So, yeah, it’s plagiarism. And by “plagiarism” I don’t mean that the author copied some aspects of VtM, like clan structure or its themes or what have you. I mean he writes about Camarilla, Sabbath, Malkavians and other very recognizable names, managing to butcher everything interesting and original about the game in the process. It’s an AU fanfic that was published because Mother Russia scoffs at your puny copyright laws.

How is that possible? Well, long story short, international copyright law is a legal nightmare when it comes to dealing with Russia, so most authors don’t bother as long as the plagiarists don’t try to publish in the West. We have Harry Potter knock-off, more openly so than usual, I mean, there are at least two other instances of plagiarizing VtM in different ways, there is a novelization of Zelda written by an eight year old girl (it was back when Eragon was talked about)… So, if you have any fanfics you really want to publish, you know now where to go.

In author’s defense, he didn’t know he was plagiarizing someone’s work. He certainly had no intention of doing anything wrong. You see, he’d found a VtM translation on the Internet and thought that everything published on the Internet is free for everyone to use.

No, seriously, that’s his excuse.

So, as you can guess, the author has a rather unique perspective of life. Let’s see what kind of story it will produce.
