Is there… something you’d like to talk about?

    1. illhousen says:

Yes, the Moon. He’s beautiful tonight.

(Seriously, though, the Moon was pretty cool the last few days where I am. More yellow than white, though.)

A weather thing? Was this supposed to be a working link or would you rather leave it to chance that people would drag the title into the URL bar?

It drags on a bit too long, but the opening was well executed.

      The link works fine.

      1. Farla says:

        I messed it up before!

        1. actonthat says:

Really? The draft didn’t have any issues for me. Weird.

The live version seems to have read local50.info as a internal link to a page on this site because I didn’t have http:// on it.

  3. SpoonyViking says:

I can finally follow the link! :-)
It’s very interesting and it builds tension very skillfully, but it’s rare for me to enjoy stories without some kind of resolution. Is it a trailer of some sort, perhaps?

    1. actonthat says:

IDK, the resolution seemed pretty clear…

      1. SpoonyViking says:

Yeah, but it’s just a snippet; a scary snippet, but not meaty enough for my tastes.

        1. Farla says:

See, a good part of the horror here is that the act of investigation is fatal. Humans can solve problems if we can investigate them, but if something kills you if you interact with it in any way, then there’s nothing you can do.

          The narrative here is:

          Something is wrong?

Something is very wrong! What? Why? Why can’t I look at a thing what happens?

Okay no, false aLARM OH MY GOD WHAT

IT CAN GET IN FROM EVERYWHERE well I guess we’re doomed

and it’s got the station guy. this is us all dying.

          bye.

          1. SpoonyViking says:

I think I’m just not the target audience. Those sorts of stories are cool as brain teasers, but I like horror that’s less… …unknowable, perhaps? I think it’s more powerful.
(There are exceptions of course – Night of the Living Dead, for example, doesn’t really need an explanation for why the dead are walking.)

    2. illhousen says:

…The narrative is pretty straightforward, as these things go, and the resolution is pretty obvious: you watch the Moon with the warning person, it descends, then you’re blinded by the white light coming much clearer than the rest of the broadcast. What happens next doesn’t really need to be shown, it’d destroy the mystery.

      1. SpoonyViking says:

Yeah, see, I disagree with that last part. Then again, I’m probably just not the target audience for this sort of thing; I want the Who’s, the Why’s, the whole shebang.

        1. illhousen says:

Yeah, I would take the opposite stance on it. The movie gives you all necessary information to be afraid: the Moon is coming for all of us, and soon the blood light will flow into your room.

To say anything more would diminish what I can imagine myself.

          1. Farla says:

The only niggling bit to me is where it starts telling you to go outside. Is the moon hijacking the signal or is it that the people at the station were being taken over and fighting over the controls?

            1. illhousen says:

I feel the latter to be more likely. The Moon hijacking the signal would require it to be able to communicate with people, which makes a bit it more comprehensible. In absence of other information, it implies a mind we can understand. It also implies a vulnerability since the Moon in this scenario would want us to look at it rather than just doing its thing regardless.

Basically, in this minimalist narrative, I feel the scenario of the Moon descending and driving people crazy by its mere presence, uncaring of what we do, to be more satisfying.

I got the impression there was an actual intelligence behind the whole thing.

It’s a similar setup but longer and with more characters, so it manages to get into actual investigation.

          1. SpoonyViking says:

Oh, I’ll look into it. Thanks!

The Who and What are pretty clear : Artemis* is angry.
As for the Why, I think it’s probably because of gamergate.

*Yes, I know Selene makes more sense, but Artemis is more well known.

Aw, shame you didn’t use the Roman name; I might have made a “MLP: FiM” reference. :-P

This was really neat. Also I am constantly reminded what a chicken I am.

    1. Farla says:

I watched it the first time in the middle of the night, which I knew was stupid but I really love the guy’s work in general so I was all MUST WATCH NEW CONTENT EVEN THOUGH IT’S A VIDEO AND THOSE ARE THE SCARIEST.

      1. Kaze says:

I watched it on lunch break and it still kind of scared me. >_>
