THANKYOU for that detailed review for my story. I will take all you have told me and try to apply it in my next story. But if you read the next installment of he smiled. You will see who kills blue. Because if you read the a/n then you would have seen it is a two-shot. Meaning it would have TWO chapters. :) and I assumed that just like a cat (yes I KNOW Aracanine is basically a large dog) it’s claws would be under it’s fur and it can extend them at will. (Like wolverine lol xD). And I capitalize pokemon names because I like to. And is a pokemon an animal? No. It’s a pokemon ^.^ feel free to review my other story.

Haha yeah, I know it isn’t a story, I wrote it at like, three in the morning when I wasn’t sensible…
And uh, I’m aware of the it’s and its thing, it’s probably just a case of my autocorrect.

1. I’m not trying to be mean, but your reveiw gave me a headache.

2. I’m a rookie, this is my first Pokemon fanfic and my fourth overall.

3. I like my idea, but I was already contemplating taking it down and starting from scratch.

4. Wait and see about the story before you ask questions, all will be revealed in the end.

I am aware I am not good at this, okay?

Humans have evolved and changed, hence the “relative abilties,” etc. Humans evolved fighting abilites and stuff in order to defend themselves, not in order to hunt. They can live off fruit because they’ve changed, just like certain primates can live off fruit in the real world. That’s why they don’t often eat meat.
Gardevoir/gallade, on the other hand, lost the traits they didn’t need.
And yes, humans are treated like any other pokemon, while gardevoir/gallade are more like humans.
Also, pokemon in general doesn’t make sense. It’s fiction, deal with it.

Human diet is actually really important. In order to get enough food to keep our brains running, we have to eat cooked food, a lot of which was meat. As civilization developed, we were able to shift from that to cooked plants. To my knowledge, absolutely no monkeys can actually survive off fruit, and it’s considered enough to class them as frugivorous if fruit just makes up a large part of their diet. Although we like to think of ourselves as adaptable, that adaption is largely our ability to find new and inventive ways to satisfy our actually rather strict requirements for living.

First, thank you for your fave, it’s the first the story’s gotten.

However, I do not appreciate being told not to capitalize Pokemon when the ACTUAL COMPANY does it. I do the species names because when I leave them small, it sets off my OCD, which then gives me a lovely headache.
The ‘odd rule’ will be explained further in a later chapter. Remember, this is a series of related oneshots. On the note of Pious and Peril, her father did not exactly give them to her as a present. He gave them away because they were not suited for the purpose he had purchased them for and he did not have time for pets, so he gave them to his daughter, where they would be happier. This will eventually get a chapter.

Finally, the italics. That is all FFN’s fault, because it ate my scene break.

To this day I don’t get the outrage people have over the capitalization thing.

I do appreciate your review, and I thank you for helping me realize that I did capitalize trainer and professor when I wasn’t supposed to. However, there are a few things. I said in the Author’s Notes that it was simply a documentation of my game. And in the games, Pokemon and any individual species (ie Zubat, Hoppip, Geodude, etc.) is always capitalized.

For example, in Pokemon Black and White, it doesn’t say “A wild woobat appeared!” It says “A wild Woobat appeared!” Also, you have “Pokemon battles”, not “pokemon battles”.

A Nuzlocke is a set of rules designed to challenge players. There are tons of them everywhere. I’m not the only one who’s ever done this.

I don’t mean to sound like a snob, and I’m sorry if I come across as such. You have constructive thoughts in this review and I appreciate them. Just wanted to say some things.

thank you very much for taking the time to constructively critique my story!
I’ll admit, my writing isn’t the sharpest, and proper use of the semi-colon is
still something I’m working on. I did include the creation-myth just in case
people weren’t quite familiar with it, but, you do bring up a good point! I
think most of the fandom would know it by now, lol.

To be honest, that last law is to show that perhaps God is not quite as secure
as we think a God should be. It indeed does make him sound weak, but, perhaps
it’s because he might be a tad unsteady in the head, that he delusionally
believes that his own children will turn against him? But thank you! You bring
up an excellent point.

Aggghhh spellcheck. My worst enemy. I shall work on it. Thank you very much
for all the advice, I will take it to heart! I do hope you’ll continue
reading!

Ok, at first I thought, “was mine really so bad that you singled me out just to write this?” Then I clicked on your page and realized that you do this to lots of people, not just me. That made me feel a little bit better. I’ll fix some stuff in it, but not all because the point of that chapter was to show some backstory. This is the first time I have tried to write a story since about second grade, so I’m not very experienced in story writing. I’ll try to keep in mind what you said though.

To be perfectly honest, your review is completely false. If you are going to review based on bad grammar, at least use examples of where I’ve gone wrong in the story, rather than make up your own sentences to prove a point. Also, your snetence examples for how to use speech in stories properly has already been followed to the letter. The only reason for the use of the semi-colon is because it was what was recommended by Word to do, I’m not being pretentious.

Another point you made was that I should use ‘said’ a lot more. If I were to use said all the time, the readers would get bored and move to a different story. Also, your point about not captialising a Pokemon’s name is untrue, because it is the name of the creature, and also the name of that specific creature. You may not captitalise dragon, but you do captitalise Paris. That’s becuase it is the name of a specific insidence of the rule.

That being said, I am formatting the story so that more happens in each chapter, there is more in a chapter, and so that the beginning isn’t the same as everybody else’s.

Normally, a critical review would have been taken into account, and thus the story worked on to satisfy the reviewer, but in this instance I will not be taking your review into account because you have managed to highlight the ignorance and sheer stupidity that humankind can have. If you are going to review somebody’s work, make sure that it is a personal review, and not the same old copy-and-pasted piece of crap you probably give everybody else.

P.S. If you weren’t overennamered by the first chapter, why did you go on to the second one, just to give my story another review which was hardly worth your time copy-and-pasting?

Here’s a good example of a non-capitalization rationalization.

If I don’t review the next chapter, people will tell me that I must not have read enough. If I do, they want to know why I read it when I hate it. There isn’t actually any accepted standard for fair behavior here, it’s just whatever you didn’t do must be preferable. This is the problem with so much of the “debate” about reviews and criticism.

A response to your review at http://www.fanfiction.net/r/8947817/

Your review is appreciated, and I’ll be sure to take your criticism into consideration. The point of the story is to go along with the storyline, and if you were to read further you would see that it does not go along exactly with the story. I’ve added scenes that are obviously not part of the game. And, you will note that this is my first story on FanFiction, so it is not perfect. Yes, I know that trainers start at ten, I changed that to fit my storyline, because I feel it would be entirely inappropriate to have a ten year old character fall in love.

Sundust341 | re: Your review to Black and White 2: A New Beginning

You will note that pokemon and their trainers are usually more deeply connected than a relationship where the pokemon are tools for battling and the trainers are their masters. Ash and Pikachu obviously have a deeper connection, and that is the case for Lisbeth and Tepig. You could call it an empathy link.

I get tired of ‘It’s my autocorrect’ and ‘I wrote it at X O’ Clock in the morning so I’m allowed to make mistakes’. Well if they wrote it so early, why didn’t they edit it later, then? :S That’s what confuses me.

    1. actonthat says:

Farla’s mentioned this before, but it’s the idea that if they didn’t put all of their effort into it, it’s not really their fault it’s bad. Of course it sucks, I barely tried! It’s a lot harder to deal with criticism on something you put all of your effort into, because it may mean you’re not good. If you don’t try, no one can ever say anything about your actual skill.

    2. Farla says:

Well if they wrote it so early, why didn’t they edit it later, then?

What you see here is the dawning comprehension that maybe they should have. A lot of people start off with the assumption that no one cares if they make a mistake.

    3. Jax says:

What baffles me more about this reasoning is the idea that autocorrect is an actual problem. There’s ways to turn it off or customize it, and if you’re lazy and on a Mac comp, all you have to do to blow off autocorrect is keep typing until it stops screaming words at you. The only time when autocorrect seems to be a real problem is if you’re writing on a mobile device, and seriously, who would do that for a chapter? Idk about anyone else, but spending hours jabbing tiny keys on a tiny screen (compared to a laptop, anyway) sounds like an invitation for pain.

Seriously, are people legit writing fics on iPads and iPhones? Because I don’t know whether to be impressed or incredibly confused by their life decisions.

Lots of them! Well, novels, anyway. I’d be surprised if there wasn’t a bit of fic mixed in there as well.

See, that phenomenon, I can understand because you’re writing bits and pieces in tiny chunks a la Twitter. Writing an entire chapter in one go the way Westerners are claiming to do is what I have trouble envisioning.

          1. Ember says:

Well, some of the chapters Farla has been encountering lately have been suspiciously short…

          2. actonthat says:

Someone in a previous response post mentioned that they’d written the chapter on their iPod as the excuse. I was baffled at the time and still am now because is this really becoming a thing? Really?

            1. Negrek says:

I’ve seen more than one person claim that before too. Or–horror of horrors–that they were typing it on a DS browser.

I like writing down single lines when I think of some good wording to go in a scene I’m planning/going to go back over or I’ll forget it. I can’t imagine writing an entire scene, let alone one that advances the plot, in individual, out-of-order clunks like that. I need to sit down and set write through it from start to finish. When I’m writing fluently, I’m frustrated as it is by my fingers being the limiting factor in getting the words written down, and I can touch-type or scribble really quickly. Writing on a device that slows you down, that sounds painful even more than stupid.

            1. Farla says:

Well, the fact people are doing it doesn’t mean they’re doing a particularly good job of it, remember.

Out of curiosity, how many review replies do you actually respond to?

    1. Farla says:

Actually a lot of them this time. If they ask a question or something they said can be easily rebut (“I capitalize it because Nintendo does!”) I usually respond. Got into a good argument with the idiot who thought fruit was a valid diet too.

      1. Jax says:

Will we be seeing a log of the fruit debate in the near future? I’d love to see what that kid had to say. Because science.

        1. Farla says:

It was painful. “Monkeys can live off fruit!” No. No they can’t. I even said that eating low quality food also means you have to be solitary to get enough food in an area and they said that’s wrong because what about orangutans.

          1. Ember says:

Yes, clearly the species for which we coined the term “semi-social” is the perfect counterexample to that!

My zoo actually doesn’t feed its orangutans any meat, but they do get vitamins and nutrient-enhanced processed biscuits to supplement their fruit-and-vegetable diet, so there we are.

            1. Farla says:

              and-vegetable

Oh, if they’d just included vegetables I’d have accepted it. Literally only fruit, just like the noble orangutan totally lives entirely off of. I suggested tubers and NO FRUIT ONLY.

              Reply
              1. Ember says:

…that is literally so stupid and pointless that I am having trouble processing it, so have another orangutan husbandry fun fact instead!

In the wild, orangutans eat more fruits than vegetables, but in zoos we give them mostly vegetables.  Why?  Because fruits cultivated for human taste have a much, much higher sugar content than the wild fruits that are the staples of orangutans’ natural diet.  (Like us, the orangutans seem to like that.  They get way more excited about fruit than they do about food items that taste more like what they would be eating in the wild.)

              2. Farla says:

                Aw, they’re people!

I’ve heard that the signing apes also express a preference for cooked food, describing it as tastier.

              3. Ember says:

They really are.  Right before our one wild-born orangutan passed away (at fifty-two years old!), she did that age-regression thing old people do and started favoring onions over her usual preferences, since they apparently taste like a certain fruit she would have eaten a lot of back in Borneo.

              4. Farla says:

I wonderhow many animalsdo this? I really must get more rats.

(Also, my aunt used to eat raw onions when she was a baby. Maybe they taste better at some periodsof life?)

  3. actonthat says:

Wow, Word really does seem to blame for the semicolon flourishing. How incredibly odd.

    1. Farla says:

It makes sense, it’s everywhere all of a sudden and at all ability levels, but most people use Word. They must have altered whatever the grammar program is to suggest it more often.

  4. sliz225 says:

“Another point you made was that I should use ‘said’ a lot more. If I were to use said all the time, the readers would get bored and move to a different story.”
My brain hurts.  Read Stephen King’s “On Writing,” author, please.

    1. Farla says:

Oh, you should’ve seen the one arguing that they had to write two paragraph chapters because teens have an attention span of fifteen minutes.

      1. Ember says:

…who takes fifteen minutes to read two paragraphs?

        1. Farla says:

Evidently, the same sort of person who has a maximum attention span of fifteen minutes.

          1. Ember says:

             How deeply unfortunate.

        2. Jax says:

You didn’t get the memo that teenagers are the new goldfish?

  5. Guest says:

Hey Farla, I’m wondering what your view is on AUs. Do you bother reading them if they have nothing to do with Pokemon, or?

    1. Farla says:

I tend to not find them very interesting, but in practice just avoiding the romance stuff tends to filter those out.
