Pokeauthor Special Batshit Spotlight

Time for the last of these, and it’s a dozy. It’s TheModerator, last glimpsed here on the fifteenth.

TheModerator | Thanks!

Oh, yes, perfectly fine with you putting this wherever you like, so long as it is in full and word-for-word (same goes with any other communication from me to you). Though – and you don’t have to do this – I’d like to know where you do re-post it if you do. I didn’t think it was that offensive to be honest, and you say you only take the Micky (I’m British, you’ll have to deal with the location-affected idiolect for now) out of offensive reply’s. So if you do, I’d like to read how I’ve managed to enter this category. Again, entirely optional.

And I’m sorry for saying “people like us”, I was with another autistic friend at the time and we we’re discussing the whole “‘its’ for possession” and he got the same vibe from your profile as I did. Hence, the “us” used instead of “me”. For the record, when I say ‘us’ from now on, I’m defining those with a Positive Autism Spectrum Disorder unless I say otherwise.

I take it from your clarification of the TOR that you’re not interested in the software or any of the advice I gave you then?

Also, I noticed a slightly hypocritical error on your profile that was most amusing. On your poll, you seemed to have used the letter ‘q’ in replacement of a ‘g’, which goes directly against your Q&A response that says you are trying to improve the the language of others, only to have you spell words wrong in the very first line of text on your profile. Then again, we all make mistakes, but at least this one is easier to correct.

The FAQ was very interesting, BTW, if not somewhat assumptious. I do find one detail particularly bothering, and it is as follows (you don’t have to answer). You say that you want to ‘ change social dynamics through persistent effort’, which is okay, but then later on you say that if you don’t like a story you won’t carry on reviewing/reading. Is that not giving up on the ‘persistent effort’ ethic? To throw suggestions at a person and then not check if they’ve followed them?

Also, you’ve failed to provide a response to many of my questions I posted in my other reply, which isn’t a very persistent effort if you’re not going to explain why the reply may not be correct, or even answer any of my confusions. It starts to look a bit less like active persistant effort, and more ‘copying and pasting the same message to everyone’

Cripes! I almost forgot to mention! I work in a government department and am subject to periodical security checks, the deadline of one of which is arriving soon. If – for whatever reason – you don’t receive a response from any of your posts within 24 hours, or one of your messages doesn’t post, I’m not ignoring or ‘hacking’ you, it’s *probably* just a lag induced by the check. Don’t resend, it’ll work its way through eventually. Come to think of it, this may be why the message I sent have ended up in two different conversations :/

Thanks again, and it’d be nice to get some answers if you reply!

I post the initial PM unless there’s some obvious reason not to and mostly let people speak for themselves.

From experience you seem like someone it’s going to be exhausting to talk to. It’s not so much the difference in viewpoint as the barreling forward like a rhino over each bit of it. You don’t seem like you’re really asking questions so much as expressing a conclusion and challenging me to contradict you, so I can make the educated guess that responses will get similar rhino barreling and it would take a long chain just to get to the point where we’re on the same point, particularly since I’m also having trouble on my end making sense of your points. I’m sure your program is cool and that you’re otherwise a fine person, and perhaps none of this would be a problem were we communicating in a different medium.

I think, when it comes down to it, the most simple way to put this is “I agree with what you’re doing, but not how you’re doing it”. Probably also what quite a lot of the Internet would say as well.

God knows, I find reading to be an awful experience when the writer does not have bad grammar, and at the end of the day I too would write just a critical reviews if I had the time. But that is not to say I would do it in the same manner, and it’s not my job to tell you how you should do things. But I’d suggest following some (not all, not even the majority) of the advice that many have given. All I’m going to say on that subject.

Now, I’ve done a bit of research and come accross some interesting things, but seeing as we’re both as stubborn to accept that perhaps some of what the other person is saying is right, it doesn’t seem to have much of a point in bickering further. I’d ask you if you’d agree, but we’d probably both disagree with the result.

You said that I essentially didn’t ask any questions in my reply, but I have just counted over 3 question marks, a you’ve failed to counter my arguments that evidence you review solely to be disruptive. Which means you either A) don’t care, which is ignorant, B) don’t see yourself as justifiable to me, which is ignorant and egotistical, or C) plain arrogant. And all of those are actually breaking the Fanfiction code of conduct/terms of use. Not that anyone cares.

Oh, and in case you’re interested and didn’t already know, you can publish on kindle for free with 70pc royalties. I’ve done two reference books and it’s relatively hassle free (just upload any common text file). You don’t need a publisher or anything :)

My end words on this will be as follows:
1) You said that your work you wrote a few years ago wasn’t perfect and that we shouldn’t bother reviewing because it doesn’t upset you. A review isn’t for upsetting people, but you think that’s the purpose of it, is what your essentially saying. Extrapolate further into your own reviews, and the language used in them, and it seems like you intend your reviews to upset people. Or have I got that wrong? It also shows that even you weren’t perfect at one time, and that you got better without the rambling reviews.
2) Some write fiction because as a vocation, some for education, and others for their own amusement. All the ones who write as a job are publishing in the real world. All the ones who are doing it for education are requesting beta readers. As for the ones who are doing it for their own amusement and not requesting beta readers? They’re sitting, on a school bus, or a train, or in a hospital, or at home at a desk, tapping away the ideas they have, wanting to get a plot accross more than a pinprick-precise example of the English language. I know I have. What I’m getting at here is: Theise people don’t need a giant essay on every single flaw in the first chapter. A few words generally has a greater effect then an entire load of readily prepared paragraphs. Example – Pythag’s theorem is 24 words. The laws on the sale of cabbage in the US is 26,911. And most shopkeepers can’t remeber the minimum density a cabbage needs to be, whereas they know Pythag’s theorem, even if the latter is irrelevant. Your first books weren’t perfect, don’t expect everyone else’s to be.

[You said that I essentially didn’t ask any questions in my reply]

No. I said, “You don’t seem like you’re really asking questions so much as expressing a conclusion and challenging me to contradict you”. “Why are you doing this?” is different from a paragraph of accusations finishing with “So am I wrong?” One suggests you want to talk, the other suggests you’re just in this to try to prove yourself right.

To go with something you may be familiar with, “Have you stopped beating your wife?” contains a question mark. That doesn’t mean the person is asking out of an actual interest on the subject.

… Well I apologise and see what you’re getting at with the whole rhetorical question deal, but could you perhaps choose a better example, or better yet, use the technical term? I’ve done an A-level in English and am capable of words such as soliloquy and hypocritical, you don’t need to dumb things down. Your last question could have simply been “I thourght it was a rhetorical question”, and even if I didn’t understand I would quite easily use a dictionary. Irony fully intended in that last question mark BTW.

I’m also slightly insulted that you said I’m on a mission to prove myself right. 1) What is the point of an argument if you’re offended when the other side wants to be right, 2) You assume I want to be proved right, yet the question directly implies I’m assuming I’m wrong, 3) I am one of the most networked professions around, I can’t afford to not listen to others ideas. If they were good and I didn’t, I’ve lost out. Same goes here, I can’t simply say ‘you’re wrong’ and hope I’m right. I’ve even backed up my argument. and 3) Are you going to answer the questions or not? That last one was a real question

I asked a direct question at the end of a paragraph in order to reduce confusion about the questions actual request than doing a sentence with every single point in it. “Or have I got that wrong?”. The answer is either ‘No’, or, more preferably, ‘Yes, and this is why…’, whereupon to tell me where exactly I’ve gone wrong. Which you seem to be incredibly good at.

I’d like to point out also that with every passing minute I feel less inclined to take your advice, which I was actually agreeing with up until the point where you became slightly arrogant and hypocritical.

Your wording is direct, which ordinarily I like, but it gets to the point where you seem less intent on improving someone’s grammar, and more on just getting them to stop altogether, which is exactly counter intuitive to one of your posts.

I admire you for sticking to your principles, but then again, was another person who stuck to their principles was Adolf Hitler. I’m not comparing you to him, but providing an example of someone who thourght they were doing right and suffered great hardship as a result, even though they were wrong anyway. Talking of parallels, that’s probably why they’re called grammar Nazis : right idea (correcting people’s grammar/restoring Germany economy), wrong execution (harsh and vindictive mannerisms / invades poland). I’m not making a joke about it, before you mentally accuse me of being a horrible person, merely extrapolating the reasoning.

It’s gone past confusing now and into the plain insulting, when you won’t even justify yourself. I’ve taken my time to ask valid questions with valid arguments and you have just ignored them, which is doubly annoying when I actually allotted time out of my authoring to respond, expecting an in depth and interesting explanation. It’s either because you can’t – and I’m sure you can – or because you don’t think I’ll understand/warrant a response. Which is a failure of respect and as I said before, this breaks the FictionPress TOS. I myself manage websites and it’s your kind of user that really annoys everyone else, and therfore the moderators, even if your intentions are good.

Oh, and if you’re wondering why several things I’ve said seem out of my age bracket, I am not actually 16. I use a fake age, location and name on the Internet (which is not illegal in the UK, only Germany). I’ve dialed back all the events on Fanfiction to me when I was 16.

Although I really think that since the Internet should be fair for all, you shouldn’t treat someone just because they’re younger.

If I meant rhetorical, I’d have said it.

Let me demonstrate what the issue is with your conversational skills.

Lying about your age shows you’re a pedophile. That’s horrible you sick fuck and I hope you die. Or have I got that wrong?

There is totally a question mark there, so please explain in detail exactly why you aren’t a pedophile.

Firstly, that is a serious allegation against a respected member of the local, national and international community, which I frankly find disgusting and out of line.

Secondly, It is physically impossible for me to be a peadofile because I do not produce enough testosterone or norepinephrine to be able to experience feelings of attraction, neither romantic nor sexual. If you don’t believe me – and I get that distinct impression – please visit AVEN for more information about biochemical (AKA Class/Type D) asexuality, which is the technical classification.

All people – except those residing in Germany, who are getting a law passed which forbids it – are entitled to animosity on the Internet under the freedom of speach. In addition, some employers require employees not to disclose any of their current personal details to anyone they have not physically met. The fact of the matter is, I have clearly defined my age as above 16, so your accusations are both unfounded and inaccurate even without this explanation

And you STILL haven’t answered any of my questions, even though I have remained reasonable and mostly composed. I’m beginning to think that you too may be lying about your age, as it takes real immaturity to not take a serious matter – such as the one you accuse me of – that seriously, without so much as an apology or explanation into your rational. If anything, it’s sick, and I do not wish to be associated with you any further unless you are willing to be rational and not make light of serious matters.

I wish you all the best, but please don’t contact me again unless it’s to answer my questions. I’ve done the duty of answering yours.

The information provided in the previous communications may only be retransmitted and/or duplicated if this communication is included, both in whole and uninterrupted. In addition, your own communications must be included in whole at the relative position. You must inform the sender if you retransmit/duplicate any of the previous three (3) messages and you must advise the location/URI/address. (in short, if you make any reference my my age being false – and I have no problem with that – you must also show people this entire conversation including your own comments, and tell me where you have put it. Ta.)

Farla, I’m sorry for the overreaction in my last message. The train was delayed because of the snow, and when I did get on we got about twenty minutes until the train in front ran someone over and killed them and that set me back another hour and, well. I guess I just needed some outlet for all the stress and when I saw your PM I chose that. Let me try again, eh?

In the profession I’m in, you can imagine that having a mind that thinks about pokemon and suchlike isn’t suited for the job, right? It’s not so much all the security things and job ideals – on the opposite: they like creativity – but more, the colleagues. A few have spent time in active service (engineering corps) and to them this whole story writing thing is horribly childish, and I’d probably face torment. I already do with the whole asexuality thing. I could deal with it, I suppose, but it’d be better if I didn’t have to.

It wouldn’t take them much to put two and two together and figure out that my old school buddies called me TheModerator and that matched this psydonym if they searched online. Changing the age so it’s all offset to my past just makes things easier. Then again, perhaps that’s just paranoia.

Like I said, I’ve been security checked, and that means a total breakdown of your daily life for any personality defects, such as peadofilia. My check knows about this FanFiction account of course, but they’d also pick up if I was a peadofile. And I’d be out of a job. I guess you can’t tell from your own perspective, but this morning’s events coupled with your very sudden accusation – which the check will flag – just made me loose it.

I’m sorry for rambling on but my mannor this morning was inexcusable. For the purposes of not repeating myself, also include the information from the last PM, just perhaps more nicely worded, as part of my answer.

Now can we please just put this to bed? I’ve answered your questions, could you please answer mine?

I don’t think you understand. It was that taking something and assuming the worst of you immediately is an unpleasant way of talking. When you do this to me, it irritates me and I don’t want to talk.

If I didn’t understand why you did it, wouldn’t it have been more reasonable to say “Why are you doing that?” instead of “I bet you’re doing that because you’re a terrible person. Or is there another reason?” Which conversation would you rather have?

[ I’ve answered your questions, could you please answer mine?]

I will answer any further questions if you ask in a reasonable manner and I have the time to do so.

By assuming that I mean the worst is in itself assuming the worst of other people. You haven’t considered that I have a limited enough time to respond, and considering the intricate phrasing of my question isn’t of the upmost priority. I am prioritising my point, then asking for confirmation of its correctness, or if not, a vauge reason as to why my reasoning is incorrect. I don’t get insulted by the response because as long as it answers the question, it’s what I asked for. In the same way, it isn’t intended to be insulting to the recipient. By assuming that it is, your assuming the worst of me, which – as we’ve already established – is quite hypocritical.

If I have time to do so and if you ask in a reasonable mannor? Not really worth it now, is it? I’ve asked once, and granted my wording may not have been the best, but the question was there to be answered. If you have time to do so? Let me get this straight… I have made time out of my own authoring to respond to each one of your posts, because as humans that is what we do – make time for one another’s issues. If you actually cared about improving another person’s language (and you’ve said you are passionate about it several times), you would answer my questions AND tell me why the way I worded it may have come accross as harsh. I certainly did that for you.

It would have taken you less time to ask a question than to write out an accusation followed by a question. And yet here you have once again chosen to accuse me of something. If you can’t understand me telling you this is a problem over and over, I don’t understand why you even bother asking me questions. I don’t believe you’d understand anything else I told you either.

[I certainly did that for you.]

No. You have raved, ordered and insulted me, and made increasingly ridiculous demands about this conversation.

I have a feeling we may be arguing as a result of a technical glitch. The questions I originally asked about your review – one of which was an “am I wrong?” question and the rest of which were direct ‘is it this or that?’ – were in a PM that doesn’t appear to be in this message string. Instead, it appears to be sent as a different conversation. Have you seen it? It’s THAT message that has the actual questions in. That isn’t worded nastily at all. I think that’s where this is falling apart.

In my defense, I haven’t been directly insulting, you’ve got the choice in your behaviour and explained I’ve explained connotations of that behaviour I. E. Hypocrites go directly against what they say they stand for, and you have failed to provide linguistic education when you say that it is one of your values to do so.
I started this conversation civilly enough and your response and associated profile was very abrupt, so of course I’m going to be less inclined to be polite. I never DEMANDED anything of you either. I was just pointing out that if someone is polite enough to take their time to talk to you, perhaps even engage in debate, it would be nice and polite to listen to them and answer back.

I’ve even complimented you at time, saying that your intentions are good and that I appreciate your persistence.

That’s all beside the point. We are both grown and mature adults and if we can’t even agree over something as petty as the grammar in a story written for shits because we’re bored, well then perhaps the both of us shouldn’t be let out in society to interact with other human beings hmm? Let’s face it, both of are here simply to prove a point. You don’t care about the education of others so much as wanting to attract attention to your prowess, and I’m here just to get you to stop having a disproportionately large go at people who didn’t ask for it.

You sent me that, which I would have been fine answering, but then you followed up by sending the first message here making it clear I shouldn’t talk with you, because it’s full of bad faith assumptions, accusations, insults and presenting yourself as the great savior. You’re still doing this

[You don’t care about the education of others so much as wanting to attract attention to your prowess, and I’m here just to get you to stop having a disproportionately large go at people who didn’t ask for it.]

so until you stop doing this and ask questions because you want to know the answer, rather than because it suits your ego to believe things, there’s no point in my answering your questions. In this case, the fact you can’t even understand what I’m asking here also shows there’s no way you’d understand any answer I gave you.

[there’s no way you’d understand the answer I gave you]

Bit flimsy on evidence there, you’re basing your statement solely on the lack of emotional interpretation skill that I have, and I freely admit to not having. In fact, I even said that at the start of this, excusing myself on account of my autism. Clearly no listening. and another bro-tip, that makes you sound over inflated. I have sat GCSEs and A-levels same as you, so please don’t go all “You wouldn’t understand”.

I know what you’re saying, and I’ve counter argued it enough times. You are saying that I’m not doing this for clarification and that i’m doing this presumably to show you “who’s boss”. Which I have debunked in so many instances it’s frankly exhausting:

Because you’re not even listening to the answer I’m providing! I have mentioned AND EXPLAINED why any questions I asked were because on an academic interest and not that of an ego boost. If I wanted that, I’d mention a few of my worldwide contacts, or my generous salary, or the hundred thousand downloads I’ve had. To think that I’d get an ego boost from arguing with one person whom I don’t know on the internet is foolish. The only thing I have to gain (and I’m saying this for about the third time), is knowledge.

As you have fully made clear, my English is not the best and that is another fact I’m well aware of and intent on improving. Peer review on the internet (even a surprise one like yours) is a great way to do this without having to go to *shudders* adult literature lessons which – if you’ve ever sat in on one you’d know – are just patronizing. All I was asking for is some clarification on the essential rules. That was it! But you took this offensively – god knows how – and here we are.

I see what your problem is, but the fact of the matter is: that particular problem doesn’t exist.

The fact that you saw my question as an affront is understandable to a degree: you probably receive much offensive criticism. But mine WASN’T. Not everyone who asks you a question is instantly saying “YOU ARE WRONG, I WANT YOU TO SAY I’M RIGHT”. I’ve had teachers like that and they never were good lessons. If you think that’s the case, please get down off your high horse onto everyone else’s plane of conversation, and converse in a similar fashion to everyone else. It makes the world so much easier.

[ Not everyone who asks you a question is instantly saying “YOU ARE WRONG, I WANT YOU TO SAY I’M RIGHT”. ]

I have talked to many people who ask questions. I have even talked to some who ask them rudely. You managed to barrel quite far over the line there.

If you were able to understand what I’m saying, you would be capable of just writing a list of questions you wanted answered, because that’s all I said you had to do for me to respond. You insisted you didn’t understand what I asked instead. In that case, I assure you that you will not understand any explanation I give to any other question of yours.

[ If I wanted that, I’d mention a few of my worldwide contacts, or my generous salary, or the hundred thousand downloads I’ve had. ]

You mean the stuff you can’t stop bringing up despite the fact I have made no comments regarding it and it has never been relevant to our conversation.

That was on the 22, and it seemed they’d finally decided to go away. But no!

Forums » Complain About Farla » (FF TOS BREACH) Provide evidence: Has anyone actually got a legitimate response from farla?
Post
TheModeratorI told myself I wouldn’t stoop to complaining about farla in the public eye. But having just spoken to another of farla’s victims (and I’m not capitalising ‘farla’ for a reason), I have reason to believe that farla’s actions cross into the legal definition of bullying. And I should know – I’ve had to study cyber law. As well as the bullying case, I have also been the subject of a terms of service breach on farla’s part. I’m posting this to bring it to the attention of the public who may have had the same experience and may also want to issue a complaint. I will not disclose the aliases of my sources for their own protection.
So, the TOS breach. Since 2007, fan fiction has placed a notification on its terms of service that all users must respect each other or risk suspension. Now, I myself have posed more than 8 individual questions to farla, all about the exact rules defining a certain grammatical action. Each one remains unanswered to this day. Farla, on the other hand, has posed accusations and questions against me, which I have answered to the best of my ability, even taking time out of my daily schedule to respond. Considering I spend only 5 hours a night actually sleeping due to work and travel constraints, you can imagine how frustrating it is when farla says she will answer mine if she has time. We have exchanged over ten messages, and all she has succeeded in doing is dodging around my grammar based question.
I confess, one of the questions could be seen as an accusation, but even then, I answered both her questions and her accusations. She did nothing but respond with the same point over and over again, and never actually answered a single question. Instead, she criticised the wording of one of my questions. One out of eight. I answered all hers, she refused to answer one.
This is, technically, showing a lack of respect for peers, as she has failed to return the relatively simple favor of answering one question, never mind the entire list of them.
Going further in, I have seen evidence that farla has executed a non-descrimatory campaign who’s aim seems less based on writing improvement, and more the absolute cease of publication. This also constitutes to cyber bullying as it is knowingly restricting another users actions by force.
I can say the actions were executed knowingly because of the evidence we see around us. Her profile indicates she knows she is disruptive, and yet, she continues in the disruptive activity. By letting farla disrupt and in some cases upset users and not enforce a penalty, Fiction press are breaking laws in Canada, The United Kingdom, The United States of America, Germany, France… You get the picture.
Now, I’ll be honest. Farla’s advice is initially useful. But the manner it is delivered in (copy and paste lines from a grammar guide), has been disruptive, and farla knows this, yet she continues distribution to readers who did not request it (I. E. Those who did not request a beta reader). This is knowing neglect for both the TOS and various laws.
I’ll admit. I liked farla when she posted that honest review. But then I read her profile, where she states that she knows some of her old works are bad, so don’t bother reviewing them to upset her. Is this not arrogant and hypocritical, as she is the one essentially tearing everyone else’s to shreds? Perhaps, farla, we don’t care if they are bad, so you shouldn’t bother reviewing them? And why do you also assume a review is a device to allow you to upset people? You have inferred that on your profile, in review replies, and via the PM system. I suggest he occasional dose of your own medicine to keep you in check, farla.
I must reiterate. I do NOT want a blanket censorship. The advice given is perfectly okay. The issue is how it is delivered. What I am calling for is a prerequisite that only beta reader requests are greeted with beta reading responses, that her reviews are limited to a set amount of characters, and that someone (a FF moderator) is on hand to assess the tonality and uniqueness of any material posted should a dispute arise. Although since moderators are already hard pressed, perhaps a blanket suspension would be easier…
This is a legitimate and serious (but unofficial) notice of possible TOS breach. Should anyone have any evidence to suggest farla’s actions are or are not as interpreted above, please reply with it ASAP. I will compile all relevant information in this post and reply posts in two weeks time (15th February) to be sent to FictionPress to take action. This is not a topic for debate. This is merely for the provision of evidence. Thank you for your time.

It’s funny but among the insanity what really stands out is that for some reason my name doesn’t get a capital letter.

Now that he’s gone public it’s so tempting to try to bait more priceless gems like “entitled to animosity on the Internet under the freedom of speach” and “I admire you for sticking to your principles, but then again, was another person who stuck to their principles was Adolf Hitler.  I’m not comparing you to him, but providing an example of someone who

Yeah, I went back and fourth a few times about if I should post or not, but he just doesn’t stop and really, it’s the endless self-importance that’s the mockworthy part of this.

Indeed. That wasn’t to say they were important, or that I was gonna call them and tell them to break her legs, just to say that I am perfectly capable of communication to other people in an acceptable – possibly even an friendly 6 – manner. But farla is one of the few people who just… Doesn’t want to interact in that way.

What’s the point arguing my case here, anyway? You’re all a bunch of people with set ideals about this from the moment farla posted it, as you have been with every other post. There is no point in trying to justify or explain to you people because your all too stubborn with your own ideals to want to change them. Have fun.

        1. Farla says:

I informed him. You can’t post links in PMs, though, so with luck he won’t be able to make sense of what I said. I certainly couldn’t communicate anything else successfully.

    2. Rljsowden says:

Thank you ember for your honest opinion. You are confusing being neurotic with being autistic, I might point out. At any rate that is NOT neurotic. I don’t think it comes close to the definition.

Self-importance, farla? Lol. I’m not the one who’s got a blog, or multiple forums made so people can talk about me. I’ve mentioned several times I’m doing this for the good of all.

And farla, two questions, perhaps you can answer those since you haven’t answered any others. I’ll even phrase them the way you want me to.
      1) Why have you missed out he very first message? I said ‘in full’, or is it because that first message would change a LOT of people’s minds and also explained why your you’ve pissed me off enough to continue this.
      2) upload a big-as image and increase server strain… Why? Text would have been fine.

      1. Farla says:

The beginning is linked and it isn’t an image.

No, you’re not. You’re mad I didn’t answer your terrible questions the first time. If you cared about anyone else you wouldn’t be doing this after I stopped reviewing.

Christ on a bike. This is really one of the loonies. I was just explaining to Boyfriend how we see basically the same insanity every year, but this may be a first.

I actually don’t understand why you’re not capitalized. Is it some vestige of the Capitalization Argument he’s trying to be snide about? Does he consider you a person, place, or thing but not a specific person, place, or thing?

He seems a bit off his rocker; I actually believe him about the autism. It’s really the only way to explain the complete insanity. Hopefully no one baits him.

    1. Farla says:

I feel like the autism is some piece in this but usually with weirdness you can sort of see how it fits together. Like he’s obsessive and has trouble understanding people and he’s got something going on about rules, that would definitely fit the autism. But usually autistic people are interested in more subjects than just themselves.

I’d normally think the not capitalizing was some sort of snub about how I don’t count as a person, but I have no idea if that’s in play here given how nonsensical his reasoning is the whole time.

      1. TheModerator says:

Guys, right here? You can pm me, you know?

You’ve said I’m nonsensical, and not even said how. Every point I’ve said has been valid – even if it’s badly worded – and you’ve just ignored it in favor of sprouting the same point that I’ve argued time and time again.

Look past your own pre-set bias and read over it again. You’ll see that both parties are as bad as each other.

        1. Ginger says:

You’re nonsensical because nothing about what you’re saying makes any fucking sense any way you think about it. And yes, I’ve read everything over without my “pre-set bias”, and I still don’t know where the hell this is coming from.

The one thing that stands out to me is…where the hell do you get the fact that Farla’s working towards “the absolute cease of publication”? You do realize that what she’s doing is EXACTLY what professional proofreaders and editors in publishing houses do, right? It’s not cyberbullying. Otherwise, you’re telling me that Random House and Penguin Press or whatever major book publishers there are that I can’t immediately recall from the top of my head are getting paid to “bully” professional writers.

          1. actonthat says:

Wait… you mean that’s NOT my job???

            1. Farla says:

You’re really slacking on the end of all publication ever. Every day I see new books! What’s taking so long?

See, I kind of read it as overcompensation by someone who doesn’t know how normal social interactions work. If you knew you had trouble socializing and making friends, “Well if I tell everyone how great I am they’ll have to come around!” is a pretty logical/common place to go. Couple that with a tendency to go off on irrelevant tangents and trouble with comprehension, and you get… this.

        1. Farla says:

That’s standard social cluelessness, but I’ve never seen anyone do that from the autistic side. Usually it’s “I think this topic is so interesting so I’m going to tell you about it because everyone else must think it’s cool too!” Whatever’s behind that seems like something different. Plus, the idea that when in doubt you should just ask for someone to explain is a really easier rule to memorize for social interaction, yet he can’t manage it.

  3. Ginger says:

Is cyber law even a noteworthy discipline? Or is this guy just ranting and raving about the fundamental importance of why he’s never left his mom’s basement and gotten a social life?

    1. Farla says:

I’m sure it technically exists but I’m sure there are real internet lawyers too.

      1. TheModerator says:

They do. I’m part trained in that discipline. Hence the legal definitions.

        1. Ginger says:

Okay, just making sure. Because if he was ranting about something no one gives a crap about in the first place, it’d be even more hilarious. This gives him some sort of credibility, but not much more. He still makes himself out to be this ranting pretentious asshole with the most fucked up logic I can imagine, if I can even call it logic.

          1. Farla says:

You know, he’s the one saying this to you.

            1. Ginger says:

I realize that now. Doesn’t change more than a few pronouns in my original message, though.

I like how he thinks that no one who’s gotten pissed off at you in the decade you’ve been on FFNet has ever tried to lodge an official abuse report against you or that the staff would give a shit about what you do. Keep on truckin’, crazy bucket of ferrets. Keep on truckin’.

    1. Farla says:

Especially this month, when people kept telling me they’d report me.

But hey, throwing a fit the month after I stop is really the best option.

    2. TheModerator says:

They have filed complains, but most of them have been written badly or presented the case incorrectly. At any rate, they’ve contacted the wrong people, as it’s a FictionPress moderator that deals with extended issues.

      1. Jax says:

        Okay. I’ll bite.

Yeah, I know people have filed complaints about her. Like I said, she’s been around for ten years. You don’t spend ten years pissing people off without those people attempting to file complaints. Moreover, you really can’t say that most of the reports were presented incorrectly if you don’t have access to said reports, and if you had access to said reports, Farla wouldn’t be an issue right now.But the main point I was making, though, is that the staff doesn’t really care. Posting pornography is also against their TOS (as stated via point 6.E, concerning the fact that users are not permitted to post anything that contradicts their guidelines — which pornography most certainly does in lovely, red letters), but that doesn’t stop most of the content on the M-rated filter from existing. And supposedly, that’s the stuff that the staff is actually cracking down on.Point is, good luck to you, but you’ll probably be better off with ignoring her. I know you think you’re doing a good thing for everyone, but honestly? It’s a given that there’s people you’ll think are ass holes on the internet. Flipping out over it and getting up-in-arms about it is a lot like flipping out over the fact that lolcats don’t use proper grammar. Yes, I know you’re hurt. A lot of people were. Ten years’ worth of people were. But the thing you’ll want to remember — the thing that all those other people realized, even — is that Farla’s not that much of a threat. She doesn’t stalk people. She doesn’t really force her opinions on people. (She states them harshly, sure, but she’s not tying you down and forcefeeding you her opinion, so to speak. As in, for example, she’ll say the capitalization thing once but then leave you alone after that if you decide to ignore that part of her review instead of argue with her about it.) She can even be pretty easy to ignore, block, and/or avoid. Point is, no one’s really forcing you to interact with her. You totally have the option of blocking her from reviewing you and going on your merry way.

The only reason why she seems like a bully to most people is because they respond to her. Yes, she reviews you in the first place, but most of the arguments she’s involved in — and a lot of the experiences her apparent victims face — come as a result of that author getting emotional over her review and replying to it. So, yeah. If you add her to your block list, problem solved.

And I just say all of this because there’s really better ways to spend your time than worrying about one person on the internet. It’s great that you want to stop cyberbullying, but you may want to shift your focus to something a bit bigger than a single person on a fanfiction website run by people who don’t care in the first place.

        1. Ginger says:

(Posting pornography is also against their TOS)

Makes me wonder why they even made the “M” rating in the first place; like they’re not expecting perverts to write about their favorite pairing fucking. Clearly, Fiction Press has never heard of Rule 34. Or maybe they have, and that’s why they don’t care.

          1. Jax says:

I think they were trying to go for an equivalent of the R rating. Keep in mind that the literary rating system that FP uses runs from K to MA, not K to M, so the M rating is actually the second most adult-oriented class, much akin to the R label for the American film industry (which considers R second to the NC-17 or X rating). The T rating is just meant to be an equivalent of PG-13, and pornography would be considered MA/NC-17. (R can contain nudity, but it cannot contain explicit material.) The problem is that most people fuck with the rating of their story and post their porn anyway, even if labeling their porn as M would be the equivalent of labeling a PG-13 movie as “fun for the whole family” PG.

Where FP went wrong, imo, is setting the M rating to hide by default. Years ago, back when the sites used a movie-based system, the R rating showed by default along with every other rating, so it never came across as the super-secret adults-only club that the M filter is implied to be.

            1. Farla says:

The real problem is that the lack of MA. People are going to post porn. It’s a law of the internet. If you take away the highest rating, they’ll just put it in the next highest.

It doesn’t help that the K-MA system is a lot less intuitive than the movie ratings thing. Everyone knows R-rating is different than a porno, but if you see something goes up to M and that M is short for Mature, you’re not going to assume there’s another rank above that’s for actual porn.

Oh wow, this is so painful and bizarre. It’s strange that he is making all these assumptions instead of, y’know, actually reading what you are writing. It sort of goes with the constant need to talk up his purported accomplishments as a kind of defense mechanism.

Additionally, I hope all these people you’ve reviewed never have to find out first-hand that real cyberbullying is much, much worse than someone leaving a “mean” (correct) review on their pokemon story.

    1. Farla says:

Huh, that’s actually kind of nice to think. Sure, it’s annoying when people start going on about cyberbullying, but when you put it that way I’d rather live in that universe than one where everyone knows from experience exactly what it involves.

  6. sliz225 says:

“Lying about your age shows you’re a pedophile. That’s horrible you sick fuck and I hope you die.”
Whoa.  I’ll be honest, this was the only time I thought you were out of line, Farla.  That is a huge leap to make.
That said . . . my GOD, that guy humble brags like crazy.  Actually, it’s not even that humble.  The crazies are so much fun.

    1. Asdfasd says:

that was the point, though. Farla wasn’t actually making that leap. She was proving a point.

    2. actonthat says:

      She was being sarcastic.

      1. sliz225 says:

        Ah, sorry.  My mistake.

  7. Bhel-Elryss Namrevo says:

Well, walls of text with no real purpose, circular talking…I really didn’t see any questions, just a lot of hot text that had a rather snooty tone. Sorry Mod, but I don’t think Farla’s a cyberbully.

…I still can’t believe he’s reporting you. You’re blunt, you brook no nonsense, and the community at large has proven that this is the tactic that works best. And is he insinuating that some person at his work is reading over his FF.net profile/pms, yet he’s afraid of his co-workers finding out about it? For some reason that doesn’t compute well…

    1. Farla says:

He’s reporting me because I didn’t answer his questions and also for the “if I have time” thing because he thinks everyone he talks to be obligated to make it their first priority.

And yes. Also, that somehow someone doing a background check would cause PMs to bounce. And that he’s trying to avoid being found out but puts lots of identifying information in his profile anyway.
