“I have only recently got the hang of using semi-colons, but don’t really know when to use them in an appropriate situation and just put them in there to vary my punctuation. “
Thank you very much for your review, it was extremely informative. Have fun trudging through the mountains of crap stories–authors should be happy that someone is trying to help them get better at writing.
I understand that there were grammar errors but did you really have to put all of those other things in there? That we completely uncalled for. I’m not the best for grammar or spelling but that doesn’t matter that much now does it? I know people about 30 years old, went to school like you did and still can’t spell correctly and some aren’t the best at grammar either but they still make good stories. Your arguement is invalid. This is for a Halloween review.

Thanks, I already knew all of this, but as I said I wrote it in a hurry years ago before I did know and I’m not editing it so yeah.

Thanks for the constructive review :)
I honestly had this fic loosely planned in my head, but the basic concept was there. I just typed the chapters without thinking that much, so I guess I got carried away with Taffy’s dialogue on battling and moves. Apologies if it makes the first couple chapters dull, but I promise, the story will get a lot more fiery as chapters pass. I’m planning to add more characters to the story to make it a bit more interesting, but it will happen slowly. Too many characters too early might confuse some, especially myself :). Once again, thank you for the feedback. I’ll be sure to create more excitement the for the rest of the fic.

Hey, thanks for the review.
Is there anything else you’d like to point out?

Thanks for the constructive criticism! I honestly really appreciate it, because it helps me get better and I know grammar isn’t my strong suit. But also, for the whole evil part I mentioned… I wanted it to be humorous, because obviously she’s not really evil. Just Leaf thinks she is lol, but thanks again for your review! Have a good day :)

I just got a proof reader so my story will have better grammar in the future so look forward to the new and improved grammar in the stories.

Okay! Thank you so much for the help, the you’re’s and your’s just got mixed up because I wasn’t paying attention–I understand how to use them!
But the capitalization and stuff actually helped me, so I’ll fix it. Thanks for actually taking the time to read this.
OH and the player thing was because I wrote this RIGHT after I spent an hour or two trying to catch groudon, so I was aiming for it to be kind of like that. But I can see it didn’t really work out.
Again, thank you so much for taking the time to read this and help me out with it, I’ll work on it.(:

Listen just because the title says it, I am not gonna make Ash too strong. Hell, I will make him lose to others. Its just that he will be stronger, and no, I am not giving him legendary Pokemon, not until he atleast becomes 16 to 17. For the dialogue, i know i am doing it a little wrong, but I have just lost the concept for proper direct speech. Plus, cut me some slack, i am just 15

Hullo!! Thanks so much for reviewing! Omg I think I needed this because I honestly didn’t know what to do about the Pokemon and Pokemon types and I realize that that would be pretty stupid lol
Yeah I agree with the first chapter being nothing but dialogue butI guess it’s really just my style and I always do that with my fanfics hahaha
I pretty much suck at all those grammar and punctuations and structures shit (You can probably tell I’m my english teacher’s worst nightmare) I always try to learn about them and pick them up whenever I read passages or books but they always seem to shift and it gets pretty confusing.
So thanks so much for reviewing! It really helped :) And I hope you don’t get too many negative feedbacks when you do your January reviewing thing. I think it’s good that you give out constructive criticism hahaha
P.S. I also noticed that you’re a Beta. Would you mind if you become my Beta? I’ve been thinking about it but I never really get the chance to ask because usually all other Betas are taken huhu
I’d understand if you find me sketchy or if you have other Beta-ees to worry about (Is that even a word?) but if you can, I’d really like you to be my Beta.
Thank you for taking your time to review my first chapter. I do agree that my scenery and the background is slightly bizarre, but I appreciate your criticism. I never realised that writing a story could be so hard! I do suck at describing character’s clothing and the whole situation is very… odd. As to why it’s his ‘first’ time going outside, I tend to write in a very confused matter. Normally I have time loops in to explain the very things that you find unexplainable. As for my grammar, I have only recently got the hang of using semi-colons, but don’t really know when to use them in an appropriate situation and just put them in there to vary my punctuation. I will take your advice into account and plan my story out more carefully.
Best Wishes,
Wild.

It may not seem like it, but I really am trying with this fanfic.
I’ll keep this in mind for future chapters. I mainly wanted to introduce the characters in the first 2 chapters.
Why are so many people opposed to learning the physical mechanics of writing, especially when they say they’re doing fanfic to improve their writing? I’ll put in another check on the “didn’t learn writing at high school” tally, but I went and looked up the rules when I realised I didn’t know, and I would’ve been thrilled to receive a review telling me all this stuff if I’d gotten it wrong.
I guess it’s just knee-jerk reaction to being told that you’re wrong? Especially in a critical manner like this. But it’s not like getting your grammar wrong means that your worth as a decent human being is being judged or anything. I mean, people aren’t thinking, “Hey, you’re a waste of space and should die!” just because a person don’t know how to julienne carrots or something.
I will never understand this. I can empathize with hearing for the first time your *ideas* aren’t good or original, as I was once twelve and I’m thankful Farla wasn’t doing this then. But grammar is objective! Even as a kid I knew that something I got wrong was wrong; would these kids be spitting venom if they did a math problem wrong?
Granted, I went to an incredibly English-focused school and was used to being told my writing had technical problems when I was little. I think part of the issue is that kids today (har har har) aren’t taught about linguistics as an objective science, but something mutable and personal, based on feelings rather than facts. This translates into a feeling that seems like a reaction to something creative being corrected rather than something factual.
Our education system fucking sucks.
Because if it’s not an equally valid lifestyle choice, then they’d have to work harder to fix it. Much better if they can just keep doing what they already were!
It is a dead horse by now, But all the they-are-proper-nouns-because-the-games-say-so people makes me laugh, they really don’t know what a noun is, and the whole idea of copyright must just pass them by.
Didn’t you post the Prince reply in entirety earlier? Why is it now just a summary?
We were in negotiations about it.
Sounds interesting.
“People make dialogue the way they want it to be and that’s demonstrating their style, their writing personality.”
She’s right! She’s just expressing her style. Her style just screams “I don’t know how to write, and I’m proud!”
[ I never realised that writing a story could be so hard! ]
I think most people approach writing this way, and it’s incredibly telling. I mean, I blame no-red-pen syndrome mostly, but you still have to wonder what the logic is there. The reason not everyone is amazing at everything is because it takes effort. Why are people so convinced writing is different?
Because it feels easy.
You can take a pen and a notepad, sit down and start writing. And the result would be something resembling an opening to an actual story. The characters talk, the characters act, the scenery is present. Surely, the rest wouldn’t be that hard… Wait, what do you mean, “characters need arcs, plot needs to advance with each scene, conflict must be structured…”
It’s easy to come up with cool ideas and potentially cool scenes. It’s turning them into a coherent whole and actually writing all of it down that is difficult, and it’s hard to understand until you tried.
Because we communicate with words rather than pictures!
If we were back in the day when you had to sketch a crude ox as the word ox, a lot of people would be going on about how hard could it be to paint a portrait, and we’d be completely overrun by shitty landscapes and grossly deformed figures and so on.
So all we have to do is destroy our language so that only the most talented can communicate at all, and the rest of them will stop assuming that being able to tell your friends about that time your mom grounded you over, like, nothing = master at novelwriting.
Using semicolons as a punctuation shaker is a very Pratchettian sentiment.
what are they talking about; using semicolons is the easiest thing
look i;m even bet;ter at it than you; i have mastered; getting semi;colons into sentences;;;;
;Y;o;u; ;h;a;v;e;n;’;t; ;t;r;u;l;y; ;m;a;s;t;e;r;e;d; ;s;e;m;i;c;o;l;o;n;s; ;u;n;t;i;l; ;y;o;u; ;h;a;v;e; ;o;n;e; ;l;i;t;e;r;a;l;l;y; ;e;v;e;r;y;w;h;e;r;e;.;
This is terrifying, someone needs to use this quirk for their Homestuck OC
‘New and improved grammar’ sounds vaguely sinister for some reason. Like the person plans on going off and inventing double-speak or something.
