There was no way I would skip posting all this, so enjoy our new Friday feature as we work through the many, many, many, many, many PMs from last month.

Thank you truly for the review. I’ll start fixing the mistakes soon and work on making the battles more interesting. If you have any ideas that would help, I would greatly appreciate it.
Umm… sorry?? I know my grammar isn’t that great, since I have… my problems and things. Haha…
I was very rushed on this story, I was leaving for a while just a little while after I wrote this, and when I get the chance in my schedule, I will go through and read it again.
Thanks loads~!
:)
Hey Farla thanks for reading and pointing out my mistakes. I dont really write at all hence the poor grammer and structure but i just felt at giving ago at a story since ive always had this on my mind so i appreciate the detailed review and hope to learn from it for my next chapter.
I have also seen semicolons used in lists where commas are used in order to outrank the commas and make the separation clearer. That being said, I will check to see how I used them and see if they were truly necessary.
I’m aware of most of those dialogue rules, actually, so I’m curious as to where I violated them – but I’ll just reread instead of bothering you.
As for the capitalization of Pokémon species, I’ve given it some thought in the past, and the reason I continue doing it is largely because the games do it, and because to me, those Pokémon names are scientific taxonomic terminology. This is, of course, a personal view; I know exactly where you’re coming from.
Thanks for the review, anyway; your criticism is much appreciated.
I appreciate the tips and help. But this is how I write. I don’t need a Beta Reader. This is how I write and I am happy with it. If you aren’t, then that’s fine. You don’t have to keep reading. I do appreciate the review. Thank you for your time.

Thanks for the review. This is really the type of criticism I’m looking for, this and anything written with the intent of helping me to improve.
Never thought about capitalization the way you put it, though after spending some time thinking about it and doing some research (I also ended up learning that apparently your pen name is quite famous on this site ^_^) I realize your completely right. Guess I’m so used to seeing the things of this fandom capitalized that it seems weird for me to see it otherwise. But you could probably consider that to be the results of my own ignorance, and that I’ve simply misinterpreted people often just wanting to give credit to the proper copyright. So thanks for this, you’ve given me quite a bit to think about.
As for the advice on dialogue, I’m not sure if you’re referencing a few individual cases or the story as a whole, so I’ll just take your words to heart as ‘my dialogue needs a good amount work and review as well.’
I’ll admit, wasn’t quite sure how to respond when I first saw your review. But then I realized that it’s nothing more than an honest assessment and that if I were offended by such a thing than I have no right to be on the internet in the first place. Not to mention, considering the current story idea I’m working on, I can probably expect a lot more reviews in the future that are far less constructive than yours, as well as written with the sole intent to be offensive.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have classes to get to, so see you around maybe? If not, thanks again for placing another stone along my path of developing as a writer. And finally, while it’s quite a bit belated, Happy New Year!
Farla, I thank you for your review, but about the fact of the OC, it’s my decision, also because soon or later I would need them however.
However apart this, thanks for your review, I hope you can continue reviewing.
WriterBaboonThank you for your review. And yes, although we are basically writing the same story, my friend and I have different writing styles, and you will see that each individual chapter is not the same. There will be times when MY version focuses on just a few specific characters, as will my friend’s. PM me if I seem to misinterpret your review, and again, I thank you for reviewing and reading the prologue. Hopefully we will have a full chapter uploaded this weekend.
Peace ;-)
I appreciate your constructive criticism and all, but why didn’t you say anything about the story itself? I can’t tell if you even liked it or not.
lcankriA response to your review at https://www.fanfiction.net/r/11728069/
Thank you very much for your input, but could you point out the places where it’s screwy? I only have myself to proofread, and it can be a little difficult picking out what’s wrong in something you wrote yourself.
And so this saga begins… Well, it began earlier, but this is where it starts for me.
Thank you so much for your review! Although, official Pokemon fiction usually capitalizes species names. While a species name in the real world wouldn’t be a proper noun and wouldn’t be capitalized, I’ve decided to keep this quirk for the sake of consistency. I’m sorry if it was distracting for you!
Also, if you could point out where I messed up on the dialog in this chapter, that’d be fantastic. I sometimes have trouble breaking up sentences and would be happy to fix it. :)
Thanks again!
I’m taking all your advice into account, but what do you mean about the script section? None of it is canon. All of it was made up on the spot. Is that what you meant? That it can’t be quoting something that’s real?
I realize the way the dialogue is written is strange. I thought the same thing when I first read it when it was under a different author. I decided to keep most of it like it is though to try to stick to what the author had originally written. A form of respect to them, if you get what I mean. I did add on where I felt it was possible to mix up which character was talking. If you still think it causes a problem with understanding the content, I will change it.
As for the rest of your suggestions: I am going over the chapter again and making the fixes. I didn’t realize I had missed so much in the half hour long check over I did of the chapter before I posted it. Must have missed a lot, or just got lazy. XD Thanks for pointing them out or I would never have thought to go back and fix.
You see, like I explained, this story belonged to someone else. They just copy and pasted it to a PM for me, and since I read it and never really wrote it, I guess I didn’t took for granted what was there and didn’t pay as much attention. Out of all my stories, I now realize this one will take the most work. Thank you for the wake up call.
Also: thanks for your advice in Mystery Dungeon. Like I said, I don’t usually write pokemon stories so I needed that fill in. As for miss spelling riolu, I blame that on typing it out at 2:00 a.m. I really do know how to spell riolu, I was just being an idiot.
sinbabyHi Farla! I love your work! Will you please review I am Lu’s ‘The Ash Connection’? I know its long, but seeing as its Pokémon month for you, I wanted to see what you thought about it.
Nothing suspicious here.
Wow, first i would love to say thanks for the feedback. Second, i would also love to say that i’m going to have to go through the other prologue i have writ and fix all my errors, and the only reason i spelled the pokemon’s species right is because i was to lazy to Google it after i was done. But thank you for this review, i can only get better from here, and if you point out my mistakes every time, then i’m sure I will become better because of it.

Subject: Whoops
I read your review and decided to take some of your criticsms on board and edit it. The
problem is I accidently deleted it. So I will look at it in the future. If you want to
tell me what to improve on in the future I would prefer you PM me.

Subject: That wasn’t me who sent that last message.
Just so you know, I wasn’t the one that deleted my story or sent you that last message.
That was my girlfriend, who did it because she wanted your comment to go away. She felt
it would eventually get to me. She apparently sent you the message to appease you. What
she didn’t know was I already block you beforehand.
Thank you for your review. I will take what you wrote on board in the future. Honestly
though, I write for fun. I know it is not perfect but I have never claimed to be perfect.
I am not intending on becoming a professional writer. I do enjoy writing fanfiction for
fun and I just wanted to share a story I have been working on for a while. I am not going
to curse you or review your stories badly because you criticised me. I think that you
want me to do that though after reading your profile.

I, umm….. I’m sorry, and umm… I think I’m the most scared I’ve ever been in my life right now. English is not my native language. I only meant to start the story as a stress reliever, and I did proofread it the best I could, but some slipped by…. This is more stressful than I thought…. I’m sorry to have made you write that message.. I may cease work on the story, I may not be cut out for this. This honestly did scare me, I didn’t mean to make anyone mad. This wasn’t meant to be taken seriously… Just a stress reliever….. Sorry…. I’m real sorry…. I’ll delete my account soon. I’m not supposed to be here. I can’t write perfectly…. I’m sorry, honestly, I really am… Thank you for your message…..
Thank you for your review! I know well my punctuations are not my best, and constructive review is needed for that. I’ll read more about semicolons. Once again thanks a lot!
No matter what you say about semicolons will make me stop using them so sorry :) And I can trust you I know how to use semicolons; if they aren’t your thing, that’s your problem, bud.
I realize that it’s a bit of a stretch, but I didn’t want to just write an AU that entirely ditched any aspects of pokemon. Plus, I didn’t want to call them “gangs” or anything like that, so I stuck with regions.
Thanks for your review nonetheless! I can’t tell if it was meaning to be constructive, insulting or just trolling, so if you could clarify I’d appreciate it.

“Did you at least the story….”
To that, I can confidently say yes.
“Just so you know, I wasn’t the one that deleted my story or sent you that last message.
That was my girlfriend, who did it because she wanted your comment to go away. She felt
it would eventually get to me. She apparently sent you the message to appease you.”
…Why even bother?
“I’m sorry to have made you write that message..”
This one strikes me as fake-y. Wonder if it’s a new idea from your hatefriends.
I think the shaky trauma one is just doing the wounded gazelle thing, especially when they didn’t actually delete everything in the half month between sending the PM and me actually getting to it.
Hm, yeah, that’s more plausible.
I think I’m the most scared I’ve ever been in my life right now.
If someone coming by and saying “hey, you’re punctuating dialog incorrectly” and “make sure to proofread” makes you ~literally shake and cry rn~, keep your stories on your hard drive for yourself, or in a personal journal. SELF CARE.
If anyone believed that half of tumblr would have to decamp.
Those “The Ash Connection” fans are a subtle bunch.
No, you don’t get it, they actually think the story is so awesome that I hear about it all the time. There’s nothing at all suspicious about random people just happening to mention it because the author is the only good pokefic author to ever live and everyone knows about how incredible they and their fics are.
From what I remember on Tumblr, the second PM asking to review The Ash Connection actually was a different person. Not that it makes much of a difference.
The first PM was immediately reposted for group bragging, so at that point it doesn’t matter it’s one person with fifty sockpuppets or fifty people, they’re aware of the same information either way.
If you remember which user the second account belonged to, that’d be mildly interesting for the recounting post.
And I can trust you I know how to use semicolons; if they aren’t your thing, that’s your problem, bud.
Well, I can assure that person I really don’t trust they know how to use semicolons considering their current knowledge of grammar.
She apparently sent you the message to appease you.
Little did they know you can only be appeased by human sacrifice.
Now, now, that’s unfair. Any sapient being would do as long as they’re juicy enough.
If the fandom for the Ash Connection fandom is big enough, then they should of made a podfic by now. I really just can’t see myself committing to a Bible-length fanfiction unless I can start off listening to it while doing something productive.
I shall do a summary of the TvTropes page instead of reading it.
It opens with the opening lines calling out fans for existing. Good job fans.
Adults Are Useless… goes on to describe the most basic implementation of the trope
Same basic trope definitions for about half the entries.
The Chosen One is -IN SPOILERS- Ash
This usage of spoiler is useful only for people born yesterday. On the other side of the spectum, “Faking the Dead” gives away a major plot detail entirely in plain text.
The fans can’t even write a TvTropes page. I think they might not have the best experience with literature in general.
It opens with the opening lines calling out fans for existing.
Specifically, “the fans who have stuck with the series from 1997 to 2013,” because that’s not boastful or ego-stroking at all.
(Also, nitpicking here, but Pokémon began in Japan in early 1996 and didn’t go worldwide until late 1998. A lot of English-speaking fans didn’t get into it until 1999 or later. Either the author didn’t do their research and just wanted to look like the truest of fans, or they’re referring to a very specific group of people.)
The fans can’t even write a TvTropes page. I think they might not have the best experience with literature in general.
To be fair, TV Tropes articles are often quite terrible regardless of the quality of their subject. That said, yeah, the story doesn’t look very impressive from what I’ve skimmed.
I thought the date applied to the fanfic and I didn’t realize it’s subject was fans of the pokemon franchise in general. I just thought the popularity of the fanfic was due to it being old, being the Seinfeld of Pokemon fanfiction.
It’s odd that he/she included an end year, as if it’s perfectly fine to stop being fanatical about pokemon in 2014.
Maybe that’s when the fic ended? So it’s like, good job everyone being in fandom long enough to find The One Good Fic, okay you can go now.
2013 is the year in which the story was published (I would love to see one that was written in 1997). Going back and updating the dedication every year is honestly something that I would do, but I wouldn’t blame anyone for seeing that as unnecessary.
I wouldn’t blame anyone for not being fanatical about Pokémon after 2013, either.I miss old TVTropes, when it was written by clever people with a grasp of nuance, but like many wiki projects it was taken over by the relentlessly literal and unfunny. RIP
I’ve always really loved facts and information, so I enjoy editing encyclopaedic wikis (I was introduced to the Pokémon fandom through Bulbapedia). If I’m being honest, “relentlessly literal and unfunny” is basically me when I’m in wiki mode.
However, even I know that being like that is only fine for projects that are intended to be objective and comprehensive. TV Tropes was originally meant to take the piss out of television programmes.
However, even I know that being like that is only fine for projects that are intended to be objective and comprehensive. TV Tropes was originally meant to take the piss out of television programmes.
I think this is an important detail. The reason I left TV Tropes was because everything became extremely rigid in an attempt to be objective. The ONLY valid interpretation of a trope is this way. You MUST format everything exactly this way even if it doesn’t make sense or doesn’t work for everything. You can’t phrase things this way even if you’ve seen everyone else doing it for years with no consequences. All rules must be applied to everything the exact same way regardless of context!!! Why do you keep screwing up??? Just follow our incredibly basic rule guidelines that are completely useless for real, nuanced examples! At that point there’s no fun in it any more. TV Tropes acts like it can be rigorous and objective but the nature of its subject matter is always going to be fluid and subjective, they have to accept that.
Haha Bulbapedia is quite high quality although I do have to laugh when it says things like “Krabby is based on a crab.” or similar.
Adults Are Useless… goes on to describe the most basic implementation of the trope
I feel like TvTropes’ thing about how being a trope doesn’t mean it’s bad had a point but it’s mutated into ALL TROPES ARE ALWAYS GREAT even when it’s ones that amount to “crap writing: the trope”.
I guess it works out because it means the rabid fans will faithfully include stuff that’ll warn smarter people away.
