The Other Pokeauthors, Part 108

Calm responses today, including one that seems genuinely interested in my opinions.

You are right that this was rushed (because my place lacks internet connection. And I shouldn’t have used this as an excuse).

“This is a decent story, but I don’t see it as having much connection to Pokemon” yes, maybe because I forgot to put the genre; or saying either ‘an AU’ or ‘based on xx’s yy’. At first I hesitated to make this as a crossover or just simply saying ‘an AU’ like other fics I read.

Anyway, thank you for correcting my mistakes because (1. English isn’t my first language. 2. I know there is gramatical error but I don’t know what to fix and I love challenges, mostly to learn my mistakes). I really appreciate your review.

Good afternoon!

Firstly, I wanted to thank you for reviewing. There are some things that we have our disagreements on, but I know that you always give great feedback and ideas. You’re actually the one that made me think a lot more about the trainer/Pokemon relationship. So while I did not answer all of your major questions that you have in first chapter, I ask that you trust that I do have the answers. Some of the best stories–on FF and novels I’ve read–have the suspense that keeps those major questions unanswered for a while. That is what I have planned here.

This is actually a rewrite of a story that I had which you reviewed. At the time, I got angry, but after a few days, I learned that I did have a lot of gaps in my plot that you inspired me to fix. There are just two things in your review that I wanted to address to both answer your question plus hopefully have some feedback from you on them.

Those are the danger involved and the trainer/Pokemon relationship. I have a villainous team that is much more dangerous than the canon teams, be it through murders, manipulations, and major crimes, so I didn’t think it would be possible for a young trainer (I say young because while the anime said 10 for trainers, it has been anywhere from 10-14 in games and the manga. If only Pokemon would settle this *sigh*) to work through these issues. Another reason is because I do plan to have moments when there are attacks–from Pokemon and other humans–where any functional governing body would deem it dangerous. It might be slightly AU as you implied, but I don’t personally think of it as too much of a stretch. Then, as to why Pokemon would join a trainer if they’re as intelligent? This is due to both tradition and the Pokemon’s own goals. Traditionally, before Pokemon were deemed as intelligent (Off the top of my head, I think I gave it three-five years that translators existed) Pokemon were captured. So, trainers still capture Pokemon, but at least with my major characters, it is shown that the Pokemon want to go with the trainer. Pokemon–as said by another reviewer–naturally fight to grow and become stronger, and I believe that the best way for them to grow is through a trainer. Each of Will’s Pokemon have their own specific goals, be it to grow stronger, a desire for a family, or having helping to get through a disability.

To end, I really want to thank you both for the review and the follow. I hope that, if you are willing, you would help to give me feedback on other chapters like you have done here, both plot-wise and grammar-wise.

Thank you so much,
Warrior of Hope

You could still accomplish this with an established trainer though, and indeed that would make more sense — a teenager may be smarter than a kid, but if they’re still only carting around a lv5 torchic that’s not going to matter if they go up against something seriously dangerous. Bringing a wiffle bat to a gunfight leaves you just as dead no matter how old you are.

1h agoOk, I understand what you mean now. I didn’t quite understand until now. However, I’m not a fan of starting trainers with experience, either reading or writing them. That’s why I plan to have a mentor figure for Will that will help whenever the higher-ups in the team attack until Will can fight them in his own. Thoughts?

Any particular reason why? Or actually, it might be most productive to talk in the thread: https://www.fanfiction.net/topic/11834/142926917/1/TRAINERS-START-AT-TEN

A mentor to serve as support until Will gets stronger could work, yes.

10h agoI’m a little wary of forums, but if done correctly, you think the mentor could work?
10h agoIn your opinion, at least?
3h agoLike all things a lot would depend on execution, but it’s theoretically a fine idea, sure.
8m agoThat’s what I figured you’d say. Thanks!
Why?

It has come to my attention. (Through an email, whose account name I will not reveal due to privacy issues.) that you are considered a jerk or a troll. I would like to question why it is said of you to be one. Also, it has been mentioned in your profile, that people block you. May I ask why?

12h agoIf you were told this by Dragon’s Blaze or her sockpuppets Istwill56, Fire4Heaven, Final Fight 45, and 20Seven2, that is because she didn’t like a review I gave her and is engaging in character assassination as revenge.

If you were told this by someone else, it may also be because they didn’t like my reviews. My reviews tend to be pretty critical, and not everyone likes that. Some people block me to avoid them, and I respect that.

Thanks a lot for reading and for leaving a review. I want to note that there are different paragraphs for different settings.

1h agoI’m not sure what you mean?
I’ve had some very angry people approach me about you lately.

Hi there. I thought I should let you know I’m getting some “reviews” (making no mention of my story) and private messages from some obsessive users who are desperate for me to capitalise pokémon species names and to ignore or block you.

I panicked at the first, a private message sent to me almost immediately after I uploaded the first chapter, only realising later that the sender was thoroughly unreasonable. You may have received an alert that I blocked you, if that’s a functionality that FFN has. Please don’t take it unkindly, I was anxiously anticipating the worst at the time.

I assume that this is a trend, of which you have surely already been notified by other users, but I wanted to assure you that I am not putting any stock in their claims and have reported them for abuse/spam. I hope you will not be discouraged by this harassment.

All the best to you.

secs agoAh yes, I have noticed that. Thank you for your support. If it’s any consolation, I am reasonably certain they are only one person, and the rest are sockpuppets.

Regarding sockpuppetry, I checked and saw it was lstwill (no idea if that’s an I or L, blocked by ID) who used the r-slur… and it was Dragon’s Blaze whom “Stone” jumped to defend when I brought up that slur’s use. Pretty good oops-I-slipped proof lstwill is definitely Blaze’s sockpuppet in my opinion. Also makes it sound even more like Blaze is in Fire4Heaven-is-not-me mode… yeah, biw I’m just repeating what everyone knows. Eh.

Sorry if I start a fight or am annoying  – just wanted to report back with my check.

It’s L. Possibly short for “last will”? I really don’t know.

We currently have a theory that lstwill is actually the prime account, given that it’s the only one that hasn’t been attacked by the alts — Blaze and Fire4Heaven have both fought with each other, but lstwill has barely been mentioned even when they were the one spearheading the initial harassment campaign. It would make as much sense as anything else at this point.

I initially read lstwill as Ist will, where ist would be the German word is? I think that was because it says something about being a social democrat on their profile, and my strongest association with that political party is Germany. But yeah, it is an l and not a capital I.

I should probably mention that Dragon’s Blaze did try to get convert me by telling me Pokemon should not have names. This was from me reviewing and saying that a vulpix should have a name. It was over 10 PMs and she didn’t once reference the story(gameverse). It was just super important that names shouldn’t be used at all.
