Lots of “it’s just a hobby!” excuses today. Also, a misunderstanding of scientific categorization.

Thanks for the review, I’ll be taking all into consideration. This is my first Fic and I want to do as much right as I can.
I admit the Gardevoir misspelling was dumb, I’ve fixed that now.
I’m already writing the next chapter and it will contain battling etc. and some more Pokemon interactions, I simply wanted to use the first chapter to introduce the characters as, well characters, instead of showing what they could do too early on. I still want to keep the “Pokemon in place of humans” vibe however, with computers and human technology. I’ll be showing more of my Pokemon-ran Sinnoh soon. Perhaps more Pokemon-like interactions would have been better to start with?
I appreciate the writing tip on the use of speech verbs, I’ll try to use ‘said’ more often. I am, however, quite adamant on the capitalization of Pokemon, mainly because it’s my writing style and most other popular Fics capitalize all Pokemon names.
Overall, I appreciate that you took the time to review my Fic. Maybe I’m overreacting, after all it’s only a review. But it’s my first review, and this is my first Fic. So thanks!

[because it’s my writing style and most other popular Fics capitalize all Pokemon names.]
Well, most of the stories in the category also write dialogue like [“Hello.” He said]. I’m very glad you did it correctly instead of copying the style there. Sometimes common things can still be mistakes.
TheAmazingTurtleHello. First off, thanks for the review. I really appreciate how brutally honest you were. Not many people I know share that trait. I know it may seem weird to reply to a review, but this type of review is hard to come by. You gave me constructive criticism that explained throughly how I can improve my writing skills. Again, I know it was just a review, but thanks.
However, I do disagree with you on the “Pokémon don’t need to be plural” part of your review. The word Pokémon is a brand, pretty much a product. So I believe it should stay the way I wrote it.
Yes, but it’s not a brand in-universe. This topic discusses it in more detail: https://www.fanfiction.net/topic/11834/55376155/1/Capitalization-Thread
I see what you mean now. My apologies. Again, thanks for the review. However, if it’s not too much to ask, can you tell me what I did right in my story? I need to know what should stay when I write the next chapter.
Actually, never mind. I should trust my own judgement. Nice talking with you
ProdigyGamingThe review will help quite a bit… Thank you a lot.
Also, I’ve been considering a beta for sometime, but I wasn’t sure if I should or not. Since you suggested the same, I’ll go for it. I thank you a lot.
Also, one last thing. I won’t capitalize Pokémon, UNLESS fans start to argue about it.

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to read and review my story. I’ll go back and fix the grammar mistakes, thanks for pointing that out to me. On the other notes:
In terms of the different POVs, it’s mostly going to be Kat’s POV, but I do have scenarios in which Eevee and Pikachu’s POV are going to be very important. I read the forum you suggested, and the idea of using dramatic irony stood out to me, and I’m probably going to incorporate that throughout the story.
For the age, I was thinking of a more realistic pokemon AU where people start at 16, not 10, because in my opinion 10 is ridiculous. I’ll address this in my next A/N.
For the names, I have read very good fanfics both with nicknames and without. I’m going to make it fairly obvious which character I’m talking about, and I’m also just really bad at making nicknames.
There is an overarching plot that I have thought a lot about before writing anything. The dream at the beginning of the chapter is a huge part of it. I know there isn’t a lot of action in the first chapter, but the action does pick up later on. In my head I set up little stop points for the end of chapters and in some sections I have more to write than others.
Anyway, thanks for all of your feedback!

Yes, but ridiculous canon is still canon. There is also the matter of dramatic tension. This thread has more explanation: https://www.fanfiction.net/topic/11834/142926917/1/TRAINERS-START-AT-TEN
If you just want an older character to interact with your more serious plot, using an established trainer is also an option — and would probably make more sense, since it would allow them to more believably overcome a serious threat.

The point of my story was to make an origin story of a trainer doesn’t seem spectacular but ends up being caught in something greater. Definitely not a Mary Sue, but she will grow throughout her journey in order to overcome whatever serious threat I think of. I know it’s cheesy, but 80% of my plot is based around the whole “bond with your pokemon makes you stronger” thing with its own twist. The reason I have her at 16 is because I wanted a character with some sense of maturity, not just a ten-year-old blindly doing stupid things (believe me. At 10 I was doing very stupid things that I can’t see my characters doing). Throughout the forum that you suggested me there were lots of arguments on why an age cap doesn’t matter, and for my story I don’t see a reason for one. I’m not having any ridiculous situations where a 16 year old gets destroyed by a 6 year old, but it just makes more sense for me to have a more meaningful journey than just a 10 year old getting a pokemon and going on a badge quest. My story is heavily character development based, and I appreciate your opinion but I have to disagree. A 16 year old has a lot more room for characterization than a 10 year old other than just growing up. If you care so much, you can just ignore the ages. It really does not matter a lot in this story, other than personal preference.

Thank you for that wonderful review you left on my story. I apologize that I accedently capitalized the names of the Pokemon; My phone is old and autocorrects to words I have misspelled before when typing fast. I wright in a simplistic way because it’s easier to not get lost when reading and writing; if I was paid to do this, then it would be infinitely better grammar and style wise, but as things stand, this is just a hobby.
Again, thank you for your opinion -Firestar2099

[but as things stand, this is just a hobby.]
Yes, and? Just because something is a hobby doesn’t mean you can’t take pride in your work and try to improve over time. If you have no respect for your work, why should your readers?
I do take much pride and respect in most of my work, and I strive to do better with each chapter. If you have read my first story, Marvel-An Unknown Hero, then you can plainly see that my writing has improved very much since then. Also going back on what you said earlier, I actually read a few Fan Fics before I started writing this one, and most of them where in the simplistic writing format I use, and are very popular. (Umbreon31’s Uppertale is a good reference)Again, thank you for your opinion, I value what you are trying to say to me -Firestar2099

Yes, and? Just because you do something for fun doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try your best. If you have no respect for your work, why should your readers?
Why’d you delete it, by the way?
It shall remain a mystery for the ages.

I’ll be sure to do that in the future, thanks.
I realize that, but I do it anyway. You know…for I guess consistency?
And no, this is an old story that I burned out on that I looked at later and realized that it just needed some serious polish. It’s just a revision, though I’m leaving the old one up for old times sakes.

You wrote a work of fiction, so yes, you are. Just because something is a hobby doesn’t mean you can’t take pride in your work and try to be the best you can be. If you don’t have respect for your work, who will?

Hello! Just want to say thank you for the constructive criticism! Really appreciated it! Just please don’t be so harsh sounding next time. Also, while I get what you said about only capitalizing Pokemon of proper nouns, I personally want to capitalize all Pokemon. It’s just my personal thing.

[Also, while I get what you said about only capitalizing Pokemon of proper nouns, I personally want to capitalize all Pokemon. It’s just my personal thing.]
Why do you want to make your stories harder to understand?
Harder to understand? Dude, having every Pokemon name capitalized, wild or not, does not make it understand. Many fanfics do the same thing and it’s not confusing at all. And I like said before, don’t be harsh with criticism.
I find it confusing, as well as distracting. Most people also use pokemon species names as individuals’ names — I think it is obvious how that can lead to confusion if both are capitalized all the time, yes? For more information, see https://www.fanfiction.net/topic/11834/55376155/1/Capitalization-Thread
I appreciate the help, but I’ll still stick with capitalizing every Pokemon. It’s just something I feel is true to the Pokemon lore and I’ve seen many great fanfics with the same thing.

1. Auto corrects a punk
2. Serena didn’t nick name her Slyveon and it will be the only one I’ll feature without a nickname
3. Word should have caught that, than again, I use my Samsung version.
4. Thanks
5. Seen it used to much, so I assumed it was fine.
6. Auto correct is a punk
7. Once again, saw it too much. Assumed it was fine.

I’m deciding to go off of what bulbapedia says and according to it because it is a species it would be capitalized.
Species names aren’t capitalized in real life, also this has already been discussed: https://www.fanfiction.net/topic/11834/55376155/1/Capitalization-Thread
I don’t really care man I’m going to write my story the way I want to write it for now. If it becomes that big of a problem with people I’ll go back and edit it.
actually I’ll change it while I’m early in the story
But the word Pokemon would be capitalized because it is a Family not a species.
I’m not sure where you’re getting the idea that “pokemon” is a formal scientific classification in the Pokemon universe. Its usage is exactly identical to how we use “animal”.
Well, what if the Pokémon’s name is actually the GENUS? Genuses (Genera? Generi?) are always capitalized. For example: The giant squid:Architeuthis dux.
The Venus flytrap:Dionaea muscipula.
A type of amoeba: Chaos carolinense.
Yes, that’s part of my standard explanation over on the capitalization thread. In order for it to be a genus, there would have to be species below that, and it’s not getting written P. whatever the way it should be if we’re talking about a member of the genus Pikachu. It also requires people to make the serious argument that all children, including Ash, refer to them exclusively by their offical scientific name and not the common name, which, well, good luck with that.
Um, regional variants? Oh wait, you’re a genwunner.
Check this out.
