The Other Pokeauthors, Part 28

“If I’m writing about pokemon, then that’s a pokemon fanfic, no matter how much I alter some of their attributes.”

The author of https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12214930/1/Zeniths-new-adventure decided to reply to my review with their own review. I chose to poke him over this because that’s so weird.

You could not just use the reply feature like a normal person because…?

Why
Nov 2That’s what I’m asking you.
Nov 2Because I’m not normal
Nov 2Did you actually want me to see your response, though?
Nov 2Yes
Nov 2If you want someone to see your response, you need to contact them directly. I don’t get a notification when you update or review your story. If I had not chosen to re-examine your story on a whim, I would not have seen it. By responding to me through a different method, you are actively undermining your own efforts. Sometimes it is important to do something a certain way if you want to get a specific result.

Hey thanks for the review, beside I want the reviewers to be brutally honest so I can clean up to make the fan-fiction better. The power part I got inspired by Fate’s New Perspective but I didn’t describe it well. So anything else PM me.

Thank you for you criticism! I do mean that, I like to go over grammar rules. That said, I’m also fully aware there are issues – I’m simply not writing at my best as this is just a stress-reliever. Poring over it for these rules just add to the stress. I acknowledge the breaks even when I wrote them as they’re simply to make it easier to read on small screens such as phones.
As for the inside quotes, you can use either single or double, but single is usually used for Old English and double is standard for American English.
Thank you for taking the time to read!

No, that’s for quotes in general. In British English, it’s reversed — single quotes by default, double quotes if you quote inside a quote. The important part is just the switch, so it doesn’t look like the next quote is a closing quote.

What do you mean they’re banned? Can I see where it says that they are banned?

You seem to put a lot of thought into my first chapter. Thank you for all that feedback. I’m kind of a beginner, so I really needed it. I’ll try to work on the things you mentioned in your review. Sorry if you were annoyed by how uncanon my story was. I didn’t know we weren’t allowed to change some aspects of the original world and I haven’t played pokemon for a while. I do hope you continue to read my story. The rest of the chapters do not follow the same format as the first. And I read up about what a fanfiction is, and it doesn’t have to be compeletly accurate to the source material, as long as you feature some characters or settings from the original. That being said, this is kind of how the rest of my story will progress. It will be in the pokemon world, but some people and events will be changed. I hope that’s fine. Again, thank you for your long and detailed review.

Yes, but you didn’t feature characters from the original. You created your own characters and gave them the names of characters from the original.

1h agoIf I’m writing about pokemon, then that’s a pokemon fanfic, no matter how much I alter some of their attributes. If I spin this off as my own original story, it would be illegal because I am still copying ideas from the pokemon franchise, despite the small degree to which I copy the source material. And besides, if that isn’t enough, I have more accurate characters from canon included later in the story and places from the games, so it will seem more like a pokemon fanfic. This isn’t anything new for this site. I read many stories that changed much more than what I did. Sorry if I’m rubbing off a being defensive, but that was the part of your review I found to be unreasonable. I will try to improve myself as a writer, but I don’t think I can write this story anywhere else.
2m agoYou totally can, actually. Archive of Our Own and Fictionpress are both free platforms just like this one that host original fiction. It’s totally fine if you just add an “inspired by” label on the top; you still aren’t making money from it, so Nintendo’s lawyers won’t care.
11h agoOh ok. I didn’t know you could actually do that. I guess I can try that. Thanks for the tip.

I wanted to say thank you for that. Um, to be honest, when I first saw it I thought, what the fuck is this? Then, I thought about it and I was being harsh. So, again thanks for that, but I want to know what you thought of the actual story.

Thanks St Elmo’s Fire for the tip I’ll try to do it. I can write a story I’m just not good with grammar.
