Thanks for the help, I’m going to be working on other stories soon as well as continuing this one so I will try and incorporate this into those projects and as for the string of random things going on that was the point of the chapter, to somewhat set up the plot and characters but still have random crap going on, that will be less of a problem in future chapters. so thanks for the review

As far as first chapters go, this is a continuation of a story. The plot is larger than just this season, and doesn’t necessarily have a season-long plot (some do, and some don’t). So in my first chapter I didn’t find it necessary to “hook the reader” since it is assumed they will have been hooked already. And as far as getting my reader interested, I believe I did a good enough job at that if they have read other stories in the series.
I appreciate the review, and I am definitely aware of the grammar errors. I’ve flipped back and forth on what I thought was correct and what wasn’t (see previous stories to see what I mean), and what I’ve noticed in other fantasy writers that I have read in the past (not necessarily on this site). This entire series is meant as an exercise in writing for me—I work on this story everyday—and so I appreciate those who go out of their way to correct me when I’m wrong as it relates to things like punctuation and grammar, as I don’t believe my education in this field was adequate enough growing up. But be conscious of the fact that I might not get to correcting my grammar in previous stories, since at this point it’s such a large project.

Thanks for taking the time to review my story! :)
Hey, I just wanted to let you know I appreciated the comment you left. I really hadn’t noticed I was capitalizing those, I just kinda started to halfway through and didn’t stop. It really helped me go back and fix a problem that probably would have persisted otherwise. It also helped me notice an issue with my stories tags, I believe it happened through a glitch, to be honest. I didn’t really care for the rest of your comment, but eh, you helped me out. So thanks, I appreciate it.
SkylandsonicHey there, glad to see your taking the time a dedication to make a… Long correction review to say the least. Though I have to saw this isn’t my original writing and I didn’t have enough time to edit all of it

What, were you on a deadline?
Yea sort of, if I didn’t post it I would’ve forgotten I even wanted to post it

The most important tip I can give new authors is… remember you’re an author. You’re not writing a TV show, or a movie, or a video game. The fact that this is a tip anyone would have to be given is astounding. I’ve thrown out like a dozen ideas because they wouldn’t work in prose since this post was made. Because that’s what an author does. They write prose.
I didn’t find it necessary to “hook the reader” since it is assumed they will have been hooked already.
This is a fair point, though. The overwhelming majority of anime rated eight or above on My Anime List are sequels, and a third of the tens are versions of Gintama, because the only people who’d be watching and rating those are the people who enjoyed the first season.
Though I have to saw this isn’t my original writing
I wonder what this even means…
