Okay maybe I didn’t make it clear, I don’t accept flamers for one and two, if you’re going to write constructive criticism how about private messaging me and keep certain topics to yourself. While you believe it belongs in the anime category, why not wait until you’ve read more than just the first chapter to see that this doesn’t just contain the anime since Red and Blue belong in the game series. Thank you for pointing out the mistake but I don’t believe in putting too much stock in religion because it’s a topic that I don’t like discussing with so many people thinking God does this and does that.
Also, if you’re going to write a review make sure it actually “makes sense”. I couldn’t understand a word of what you are saying here. So before going on about my grammar make sure you actually write as well as you say you are.
[if you’re going to write constructive criticism how about private messaging me and keep certain topics to yourself]
If you don’t want public comments, how about not posting your story to a website with public comments?
[Thank you for pointing out the mistake but I don’t believe in putting too much stock in religion because it’s a topic that I don’t like discussing with so many people thinking God does this and does that.]
I’m an atheist and I curse by God all the time. At this point it’s just cultural, there doesn’t have to be anything religious about it. You can use a generalized “gods” if you like, that also sounds fine.
[I couldn’t understand a word of what you are saying here.]
If you’re confused about something specific, please tell me and I will clarify.

Thanks for the review/concrit! I will try and be more aware of those issues in the future. Again, thank you and have a nice day.

First off, you do offer some topics that are reasonable and I thank you for that. However, after showing a few of my friends, some of which who are actually writers and done some stories, your feedback. Half of them, including myself, just think you spout a lot of BS. I mean, look at other fanfics that are posted on this site, namely the Pokémon ones.
One thing you need to get is that while you wouldn’t capitalized the name of a species of a real-life animal or fauna of plant, that is true, but in Pokémon you DO capitalize the name of the species of Pokémon. Almost 98% of Pokémon fics written have species of Pokémon’s names begin with a capital letter, and it has ALWAYS been the case, even in the games. I am simply following that rule.
Nothing annoys me the most, mostly a bit of nitpick, is that fics I read tend to forget to capitalize ‘Pokémon’ and often the species of Pokémon. I can’t stand that, and chances are those writers are like me: they aren’t professional authors or someone who is fully invested in doing a story but someone who just does a story for the sake of doing one.
And yes, I admit, my story seems cliché, following the trope of other stories out there, but let me ask you something. How often do you run into a Pokémon fic, or any other fic in general, that has done anything original? I can almost guarantee there are stories like mine that would be written the same way, and you probably gave them some criticism as well, but you should know that not everyone is perfect.
You have to understand I only write because I just feel like writing. It isn’t something I will likely ever fully invest in, and partially because I prefer telling a story in the style of a roleplay (RP) because that is the main method of writing I am accustomed too, and yes I know it isn’t the logical method, but I been at the RP game for almost 10 years, the train will likely never stop.
Now I can probably guess your critique is just you not sugarcoating it and you are giving me some advice, but the way you written it, it just makes you sound like an ass. I mean I thought compared to my original write of this story in particular, was a bit better in my perspective, but the way you dished out the feedback just… wow.
You basically just stopped me in my tracks in wanting to continue the next chapter, but after waiting a few months to give it thought, I do intend to continue the story. Yes it might not be perfect or the most original peace of literature on the Internet, but I can go back and redo some problems with the chapter, be it plot or small things like grammar and spelling.
When I started drawing, it was utter crap and someone gave me an eye-opener of a critique, and I will just say to him what I will say to you: I can improve at my own pace. You can’t expect me to just go back and try again from the drawing board like that, I like to take my time on things. And if you can’t bear to see this fic of mine, or any of my other fics I posted on this site… then don’t read any of them. I don’t want you coming in here and spouting the same crap I likely heard time and time again. Look at a fic that actually DOES need help because there are plenty of fics I seen that just make me cringe, like paragraph structure or someone just typing out a scenario and just rushing it within a couple of sentences to get to the next chapter and repeat the process. Those people need the help, I can write decently but don’t expect me to write anything original because chances are anything I do write won’t be original: hardly anything can be original anymore since its been done to death, and Pokémon fan fiction, has been at that for years now.
So in closing, thanks for the advice, if I can consider it because the way your feedback was written made me look away because I couldn’t tell if I had to take you seriously or not, but some of the points you made are factors I do take into consideration, but next time, don’t make yourself out to be a total dick, because that is exactly how I perceived this.
Thank you, and good luck with any stories you might be doing.
[I mean, look at other fanfics that are posted on this site, namely the Pokémon ones.]
This is not a valid argument. A wrong thing does not become any less wrong just because lots of people do it.
[but you should know that not everyone is perfect]
Please tell me where in the review I said I expected you to be perfect.
[Look at a fic that actually DOES need help]
I do this all the time. I did not single you out. Stop playing the martyr.

Oh right, also…
[I don’t want you coming in here and spouting the same crap I likely heard time and time again.]
If you don’t want me to review, you need to block me. I review a lot of people and can’t remember everyone who’s requested this.
2. I’m just stating my opinion. But it might as well be true. I’m sure you didn’t do as well in writing a story when you started out until someone gave you their feedback before you started to get better.
3. Who said I was playing a martyr? There are legit worse written fanfics on here that do need help. At least compared to me, I do a bit better in at least structuring a sentence and try NOT to rush through a chapter.
As I said, I am not a seasoned writer, and yes if I am not as serious to be a writer as I am at drawing then I shouldn’t even be writing a story in the first place and just stick to what I am better at. But I do it because it is something I just feel like doing to pass some time when I have nothing else to do.
I don’t care if it sucks or not, I do it because I find it as a means to relax and get something out there.
[So what makes me stand out against other authors who probably would be in the same boat as me?]
I don’t understand what you’re asking here.
[There are legit worse written fanfics on here that do need help. At least compared to me, I do a bit better in at least structuring a sentence and try NOT to rush through a chapter.]
Yes, and…? As you’ve said, you’re not perfect. Just because there are worse things out there doesn’t mean people won’t express opinions on your story.

Grovyle and Kirlia ARE their names. Just because I don’t give them names like I normally do doesn’t mean that they don’t have names.
…Yes, that was my point. They should have better names.
Yes, and my point is that it was bad when the source material did it. As a fanfiction writer, you’re allowed to take liberties and diverge from the source material in cases like these.

According to the Pokemon grammar rules in Smogon, as well as stuff on Pokemon’s official site, Pokemon and Pokemon species are always capitalized.

A response to your reviews on the story “A Pokemon Trainer.” I will go through the various topics you’ve brought up piece by piece, then close with a general statement.
On the Title and Summary: Yes, I agree on the title. For the moment it’s a placeholder until something better comes to mind. Similarly, the summary is what I felt could be the most basic until there is a better grasp of where the story is going
On Capitalizations: This area was one that I wasn’t sure on, so I tried to be as consistent as possible, even if that made this a consistent mistake. Thank you for directing me to the Capitalization Thread, I will use it for future reference. I will most likely continue to capitalize “Pokemon,” if only because it seems to be the genus, and then the individual species (such as pikachu) are the species.
On the Author Note Chapter: I wasn’t aware that this was not allowed. Thank you for notifying me, and I will work to adjust the problem as much as I can.
On fetishes: I have had problems in the past with people hounding my work looking for such tropes, which is why I felt that the hardline needed to be drawn. On the deletion of reviews; my wording was incorrect, and I meant to insinuate that users would be blocked.
On “World”: I will make sure to alter the story so that it is noted as “Anime.” Thank you for bringing that to my attention, it wasn’t an obstacle I had thought of.
On grammar (including tense, commas, construction, words, etc.): Yes, there are problems in the chapter. I uploaded the chapter while neglecting revision due to my haste to have it up. This haste was for more personal reasons, then my opinion on revision or any concept of need for it, so I thank you for notifying me to certain mistakes that need to have attention paid to. Indeed, this haste was the root to a number of problems you have pointed out, and I will work to avoid this problem in the future.
Also, I accept the personal dig at myself. I would expect more as well, but I neglected majority of the revision process for personal reasons, and so I accept the shame for doing so.
My inconsistency with the formatting of dialogue is a personal writing flaw that I have always struggled with, but thank you for taking the time to explain it for me. I’m not sure why you included the section on thoughts, though, as I don’t think I used quotes (single or otherwise) to mark them as such.
On Horizontal Lines: Thank you again for directing me, this time to the in-site editor. In my own documents the lines are whole, and I hoped they would remain so after being uploaded, but it appears that was naive of me. I will use the in-site editor to place them from now on.
On Crossover: As I said in my Author’s Note, I am not very experienced with FanFiction, both the genre and the website, and so I was unsure of what counted as a “Crossover” and what did not. From your indication, however, I assume this story qualifies, so I will move it there.
On Details, Plot, and Story Trajectory: I believe the topics of your comments can be reasoned to my haste, as mentioned before.
In general, your comments were very helpful, and I would like to express my gratitude once more. Many of the mistakes made in the story were either from inexperience (with the website and fan-base, such as with the “World” of my story) or from haste to have the chapter uploaded due to personal motivations. I will review the pages you have directed me towards, and ensure that I go through the entire revision process in the future.
If there are any other threads or pages you would like to recommend to me, I would be grateful. Otherwise, thank you again for taking the time to read this story and leave constructive criticisms.
Best,
Soul of the Borealis
The forum the capitalization thread is in has a number of story-writing guides, as well as a thread for finding beta readers (though it seems pretty dead these days):

In the future, keep in mind you’re not on a deadline. You can and should take as much time as you need to edit the story.
Hi!
It’s Shiori and Akari-chan. We are very thankful for your advice. That actually helped us a lot in improving our next chapter, which we’ll be posting quite soon. It would be an honour if you check it out and take the trouble of pointing out our mistakes and giving us suggestions for the future chapters.
And one more thing, according to our point of view, the characters will not be considered OCs since they were mentioned in the selections. OCs have a separate identity.
Once again, thanks a lot for reviewing our fic.
A revenge reviewer from a while back also got around to replying:

Could you elaborate, please? If something is boring I’d like to fix it!
See, here’s the thing: if there was really something wrong with my story, you’d be able to give specifics. The fact that you can’t just proves to me that you don’t actually mean anything you’re saying, and so I don’t have to care. If someone knows you’re just trying to hurt them, you can’t hurt them.
Next time maybe just talk about what’s actually bugging you instead of playing this weird passive-aggressive game.
What?
Hello? Seriously, who are you? You’ll get no satisfaction by your revenge if I don’t know what it’s for.
Did he tell you he wanted you to do this?Unfortunately they disappeared again, so I guess they’re one of those users who can only make contact once in a blue moon. Stay tuned, I guess.

Uh…
