“If I built, and designed, a beautiful mansion and it collapses down a sinkhole the whole world will know.”
Edit: A new revenge review snuck in at the last minute!
A response to your review at https://www.fanfiction.net/r/12861730/ NO! Shove your stupid copy-paste garbage up your ASS! Get a life, LOSER!
I filter out anime fic by default. All you have to do is change the tag, and you won’t have to see me ever again.
I don’t know what bullies you’ve been subjected to, but in my experience bullies typically do not hand you the way to avoid them on a silver platter. Just tag your fic, please. That’s honestly all I want from you. You’ve spent more time arguing about it than it would take to fix at this point. They did block me, but took a weirdly long time to do so.
A response to your review at https://www.fanfiction.net/r/12861730/ Could you PLEASE STOP these reviews? Everyone’s TIRED of them
Garbageman1A response to your review at https://www.fanfiction.net/r/12863013/ A little retort, if you will. Hope to chat some more with you. It’s enjoyable.
I capitalise for the same reason J.R.R Tolkien capitalise Orc or Elves in the middle of a sentence; or Brisingr in those Eragon books. And if many published and successful authors can use “Hi,” the leader said, “and who are you?” Then so can I.
I see you use Realize and Capitalize (with Z instead of S) which is fine of course, but means you’re probably an American. (Which is also fine). But I disagree with your argument that my structure build is wrong, or off, or incorrect, just because you find it difficult to read.
And I will leave your “review” up because I find it funny… And incredibly baffling that you neglected the one thing which mattered the most: The story.
I am not without fault. We humans rarely are. But never will I sink to the abyss, and drink its “perfected” patterns and formulas. These sentencing structures – which you live by – are guidelines, not actual laws we’re bound by.
Having a character warm your heart. Or envision great halls and long marches and smell the whiff of the trees – that is why writing and reading is all about. The foundation of a house is the story. And without it the mighty gales will crush it asunder.
I would like it if more people want to chime in. Which do you prefer: The story driven tales or the formula driven tales?
I think the Pokemon (let’s say Charizard) is more than an animal or pet. It is the species and the fire elements coiled together, which, to me, makes it worthy of a Capitalised Letter.

The review feature isn’t a comment feature, and using it as one produces awkward results. You’re the only one who gets notifications for reviews on your story, so if you want to get a response you need to use this reply feature. Some authors also make general announcements or replies in the author’s note of the next chapter.
[And I will leave your “review” up because I find it funny…]
You do know you can’t delete signed reviews anyway, right?
[These sentencing structures – which you live by – are guidelines, not actual laws we’re bound by.]
No, they actually are. Consistent grammar rules are necessary for people to understand written language. You can bend the rules, but you have to do it for a reason. Filling your story with breathless sentences and using semicolons as commas accomplishes… what, exactly?
Color outside the lines, yes, but do it because you’re drawing a new picture, not because you’re scribble-checking if the ballpoint pen still has ink.
[And incredibly baffling that you neglected the one thing which mattered the most: The story.]
That’s because I don’t watch the anime. If you want people to comment on the story, tag it for the people who can understand the story.

I should be allowed to respond to you, publicly, as you have to me. That is why I put it there. It should be fair to a new reader to read both what you have to say and what I have to say. And Awkward is subjective.
I actually didn’t know I can’t remove your post. Glad I now know it. And what do you mean by “signed review”?
I do try to be as “correct” as I can when it comes to grammar and structure. But when I publish something I want the reader to care about the story. The character. The enemy. The lands. Yet I do strive to be better. And I don’t feel that your formula “review” helps with that. You’re telling me what to do. You should show me what to do. By doing so I believe the Pokemon fanfiction community will benefit.
[That’s because I don’t watch the anime. If you want people to comment on the story, tag it for the people who can understand the story.]
If you want to experience the anime Pokemon story you watch the show. But my story is not a copy paste story from the anime show. I selected “Game” because in the games you choose what Pokemon to train and catch. You choose their moveset and so on. It is a Fanfic. Yes. But it can be your own plot. And scheme. And stratagem. And quarrel.
To me this is fair game.
The Sun Soul wasn’t without its faults. Still great story and a great read.

[I should be allowed to respond to you, publicly, as you have to me.]
Yeah, but it looks kind of weird to do so in the review section, especially since you can’t write more than one review per chapter (unless that’s been changed recently). Responding to every criticism just makes you look insecure. If you have faith that you’re right, you can have faith that other readers will see that too.
[And what do you mean by “signed review”?]
A review made while logged in. It’s also possible to write anonymous reviews, but those can be deleted.
[But when I publish something I want the reader to care about the story.]
Then you should make sure you have proper grammar. Bad grammar jars the reader out of the story; it is a foundation necessary before everything else. You can make the most lovingly designed architecture, but if you choose to build it on a sinkhole and the whole thing collapses, no one is going to notice.
[You’re telling me what to do. You should show me what to do.]
I don’t understand what you mean. Can you explain?
[I selected “Game” because in the games you choose what Pokemon to train and catch.]
Uh… characters do that in the anime too. Yes, Pokemon was a video game before it was anything else, but the anime is its own canon and interpretation. If you’re using characters from the anime, you should label it under anime. If you’re confused about what I mean, the directions are here: https://www.fanfiction.net/topic/11834/165132256/1/World-Tags

I get what you mean by this, but shit analogy. If I built, and designed, a beautiful mansion and it collapses down a sinkhole the whole world will know.
I am not argueing that grammer isn’t important. I’m saying that good stories outweigh bad grammer. I truely believe my story is good. Which means that the reader won’t be jarred, or jolted, or shaken, or wriggled out of the story. As I said before: The sun soul is a magnificent tale. Yet it has its flaws. Great story Trump ( I had to cause it’s funny ) grammatical mistakes.
And I should be allowed to whrite (did that on purpose) a word wrong, revise my writing, and not catch it before I publish. I do not, nor does most others, need a long ass formula to dictate where, and what, and how I made a mistake. However, there are those whom have written really bad and do need help to improve. I truely believe that I, and many others, does not. What we need is heartfelt encouragement, which will motivate us to carry on. Blankly stating which is what and who is right, and that way and this, in all the reviews you copy paste onto others is not how you improve the majority of this community. Raising it to a new level might be your intent, but right now you’re stepping on people. Have you not seen the comments in your own tales? Does it pride you to know that others have felt bullied by you? Will you not see reason within your humanity? Or is the machine (the formula) all which you can… It sadden me that our younglings will come here to enjoy and explore, then receive a review that is known as “you’re bad, leave and come back once you have improved to mainstream publishing levels”. Because that is what the formula does. And by doing so, as it is impossible to remove, you have no care for what it will do to those who receive it.
I think your intent is good, but the method is bad. You can’t have read, from start to finish, all of the stories to which you have posted your formula to. You’re systematically going through them like a robot.
Want an answer? Well you’ll get one anyways. Go through, read, all of the stories and write individual reviews where you write what was good and what to improve on. Not what was good and what was bad. Using the former, you’ll build them up. Education is not only to learn the formula the grammer and so on. It is also to learn how to learn. Learn how to teach. And teach how you learn (the last one is difficult because people learn in various ways)
A little heartfelt maybe, but I think it’s important that we don’t teach our youth the “standardise-testing” way.

Okay yes, they will know you were an idiot who insisted on building on a sinkhole. But they will not be able to appreciate your beautiful masterpiece because your beautiful masterpiece will be in a sinkhole.
Grammar matters. The entire reason it exists is to help people understand written language. If they can’t understand what you’re saying, then they can’t enjoy your story. There are gradations where, with effort, people can understand what the author meant to say, but if you can’t be bothered to put in that effort why are you expecting everyone else to?
[Go through, read, all of the stories and write individual reviews where you write what was good and what to improve on.]

No, because I do not have the need to correct others. I am not their teacher. I believe fanfiction sites should be a place away from micro-managing and grammar-targeting.
Read the story or leave the story. Don’t review all that grammar mistake in the story. If you, St elmo, enjoyed the story, keep on reading it. If you didn’t, then stop. It can end there. And should end there.
(Right now you’re probably feeling a bit angry. You did challange me to do as I preach. That is why I will try to explain why it’s not my problem, but yours)
You, st elmo, who does care and does take the time finding grammar mistakes and – now correcting and in the future guiding -, shouldn’t half-ass it. Which is what the formula is doing. A half-ass’d attempt to clean up the streets. Which also devide the community into “your story is super duper great as it is” people, and “formula people”. You being the latter. (I’ve explained how the formula is perceived by many in the community: it is usually those who jump on the “watch out for … and … they are toxic and your story is fine on its own”).
Seeing as the formula is half-ass’d and spammed. You’re responsible and should have done a better job from the get-go. Doubt you’ll see it my way, yet I do hope :)
Side not: I was really glad when two people wrote “damn good story” and “something positiv” (I forgot what is was). Then, as I prowled through the pages, I saw that those two where writing a lot of positivt stuff on all, and more, of the stories which you guys wrote the formula on. And that sucks, because I honestly thought I was doing good. And there I blame you guys, becaue it hadn’t been necessary for them to praise everyone if you didn’t condemn (Okay fine, condemn is a harsh word to use)
We all want to be a part of a community, half-assing it parts that community.
Constructive critism on individual stories is how it’s supposed to be done. If the grammar is bad, then guide how it should be improved (this part of the formula I don’t actually like, but it’s still a math concept in a writing class). To me it’s fine that you do this: [“Hi,” said Laura. “How are you?”] Not [“hi” said laura “how are you”] it’s simple and effective. But I have read tons of stories, from fanfiction to J.K Rowling’s billion making best sellers. And she uses (this is just my random example) [“Hi,” said the leader of the stormclan, “who are you?”] So don’t go on about the fact that it HAS to be that way and not this way. Still, I get what your doing. I’m not bickering for the sake of bickering, it’s just annoying that all you ‘cared’ about my grammar mistakes, but not even a teeny-tiny bit about the content.
I would love it if you actually went back, read it, and messaged me. “Hoy, that shit sucked!” (if that’s your honest opinion) – (I should say that I mean write “hoy , that sucked” to me, not as a general review to all the stories you don’t fancy.) Although you seem smart enough to get that, and I don’t deny it. I believe you’re a smart man / woman / other. What I’ve tried to say, maybe not well, is not to NOT help them with grammar. It’s to not use the formula, which has an oppressive and destructive reputation.
And to the people you write something like: (and I have seen this in reviews before from you and the others) “Maybe you should stick to writing in your native language” that is, to me, dumbfounding and moronic. How will they learn? I mean dear God I’ve spent time reading English books, studied the structure (although I haven’t grasped it proper yet) and put my time into this. Most of us don’t go around farting stuff out. We mould it for lengths and lengths of time, and all we get is a “hoy I haven’t read the story, but I’m here to tell you how to do the grammar and structure right and what level you’re currently on.” (You said I grasped the basics, which might be true, yet I find the words I use to be accurate. And, consecutively, the ‘architecture’ I build to be erect and sturdy and magnificent.
Disagree with me on this, if you will, but at least read my 7000 words. It’s not that hard. And it is the only fair thing to do when judging someone. (You can deny that you’re not judging, but the majority of the people I’ve seen are feeling judged)
To summarise: I didn’t know the community was so devided and believe the formula is the root of the problem. Can you review as many stories by doing individual constructive critism? No, but at least you’ve done the writer a fair job by reading it too.
Fast and lose questions:
Am I butthurt? A little.
Am I defending myself or others? I want to defend other, because I believe they need it more then I do. The foreign youth the most.
Should I bother you with this? Yes and No. Mostly No, so I am truely sorry. I like to debate, it’s a sickness really. (it is not)
Am I learning? Yes. But I’ve spent so much time on:
“Hi,” said Brock. “How are you?”
“Fine,” answered Ash. “You?”
That if I made a mistake it’s not a mistake I make often, and shouldn’t be given the generalising formula.
Any last words? Yes. Please stop using the last sentence where you tell the writer where he / she / other is on the acceptable level scale (Basic, advanced, or the worst “write in your own native language”

Okay, case in point: this is incoherent. I genuinely can’t understand what you’re trying to tell me with this message.
I’m going to reiterate this: My reviewing style is based on the scientific method. I have developed it over several years by observing what works and what doesn’t. This current method does work, and many people have told me the way I correct grammar is helpful. I will not change until I am given definitive proof that a different way works better. If you’re not going to even try to do that, stop acting like you care about these poor authors I’m supposedly hurting, because you clearly aren’t willing to lift a finger for them.
A response to your review at https://www.fanfiction.net/r/12864369/ Hello and thanks fir your comment. I understand that it does not seem too much like a pokémon fic, it’s due to my little knowledge of the franchise. Even so, I think pokémon is a wonderful world and very little exploited in terms of stories. I will try to enrich myself more about the franchise before writing.
The idea came to me as I navigated the pokéex entrance to the Misdreavus, and its singing seemed to me like a good idea for a story.
Cheers!!
Hero of leadA response to your review at https://www.fanfiction.net/r/12864042/ Thanks for the pointers. I’ll try to keep them in mind.
As for your last point I actually have quite a bit of the story already planned out. It starts off pretty childish but quite a few darker themes show up later. I have something planned with Blue’s anger problem and Leaf has quite the backstory. It’s not going to be the exact story from the games that’s just the universe I want to use. I don’t like the anime and the manga already has a good story to it. I will be taking aspects from them though.
Thanks for the review. I don’t have a set update schedule so other chapters will be uploaded randomly if you’re interested.
A response to your review at https://www.fanfiction.net/r/12864466/ Thanks for your review! I always end up missing a few typos and such so I appreciate you taking the time to point them out. I thought I had caught all the capitalised “professors”. That said, I am capitalising Gym on purpose in this fic, since it’s not supposed to be in the sense of “going to the gym” but “going to the [Town Name] Gym”. Erm, I’m not sure if that logic makes sense in retrospect, but similarly to Pokemon Centre (which the characters shorten to “the Centre” or “Centres”) it is supposed to be a proper noun which is just shortened for ease of use, so the capital seems appropriate.
Also, thanks for the comment about “best foot forward”. I think unfortunately the beginning may be a little slow paced because it took a while to find my feet in writing the first draft, and I wasn’t quite sure where to trim/cut/skip without ruining the character set up. It’s definitely a fair point to raise though and something I hope to take on board for future projects, so thanks for the reminder, haha. I’m glad you enjoyed Avaline’s characterisation and the little details I added to flesh out the world somewhat – you might be able to tell, but I had a lot of fun writing Roran.
Thanks again for reviewing!

[Pokemon Centre (which the characters shorten to “the Centre” or “Centres”) it is supposed to be a proper noun]
Is it? This only makes sense to me if it’s a brand name, like “Wal-Mart”. We might say we’re going to the Wal-Mart, but if we’re just talking about a generic supermarket, we don’t say we’re going to the Supermarket. Pokecenters seem to be general buildings rather than belonging to a specific corporate brand, so I see them more as a general term, like “veterinary clinic”.
This is why it’s important to be consistent about capitalization: it allows people to do stuff like this!
A response to your review at https://www.fanfiction.net/r/12863721/ Well, thank you for your input. If you don’t mind, I’m deleting your comment due to…well…the over the top nitpicks.

You’re kind of being a buzzkill.
How so?A response to your review at https://www.fanfiction.net/r/12864409/ yes, I realize all of this. this was a half an hour story which I didn’t put much effort into. I’m considering re-writing it
A response to your review at https://www.fanfiction.net/r/12851174/ I know of the conundrum with this in the fandom and I do understand your points on WHY it should be done, but in this case the Pokemon material is “Word of god.” We may not capitalise “mouse” or “dragon” in grammatically-correct English, but Pokemon has its own set of rules, and as I’m writing under said rules that they’ve established, I’m writing as they were established. It’s not as if I’m publishing this fan-fiction. ps Not myself, nor any person I’ve ever met, has ever been turned off from a story, good or bad or otherwise, because of the capitalisation.

No, it’s not a dealbreaker, but it is a nuisance and it’s worth pointing out.
But as I said in the review, https://www.fanfiction.net/topic/11834/55376155/1/Capitalization-Thread is where to go if you want to talk about this.
A response to your review at https://www.fanfiction.net/r/12828915/ thank you for your help, I did’t expect that anyone would even read, much less respond to, my story. I really appreciate it.
P.S. I tried making them normal, but there where too many plot holes, so I made them anthropomorphic.

:This story is a piece of sh*t, just like you. You complain about everyone’s story, saying “it needs more dialogue” or “it needs more detail and description”. Well, guess what? You need to proofread your own stories, because what you review on other stories is a load of crap. You say WE need less dialogue, and then in your own story, there’s nothing BUT dialogue. You’re not a screenwriter, are you? No. You’re an author (one that needs work, if I dare). You don’t need to be telling people off for their own way of writing and then make a sloppy-ass story like this one that follows NONE of the “rules” you say we’re breaking. You are the reason that so many people have deleted their stories on their site. You are the reason that so many aspiring authors with real promise gave up. You are the reason that so many people’s stories turned from a real, promising, creative, original story into a dull, flat one with no emotion. You take the time to criticize everyone’s stories, except for your own. You even had one of your little friends reviewing your story and correcting your errors. Well, I say you deserve that, you b*st*rd.
Why can’t you just leave everyone alone? The Pokémon fanbase would be a lot more peaceful without you. If you “can’t stand bad authors”, then why are you here? This is a beginner-friendly site, and you should be more welcome towards beginning authors instead of immediately crushing their dreams was soon as you see their first fanfiction. If you would just leave everyone alone, the world would be a better place.
It should be noted that this is copied directly from the site; they censored the swears themselves. This would imply they’re a new anon, and possibly a child? The most notable thing here seems to be that they don’t seem to understand what I mean when I talk about script format. Also makes me wish I could respond to anon messages so I can learn who this friend is that’s reviewing my story.
