Bride of Return of the OC Submissions

Summaries of all 25 pokemon I’ve done so far; Madhava, Padma, Anila, Jyoti, and Kiri Shesha; Harry Blackstone.

The now-gone His Return by TheBlueScarf explained that “[REDACTED]” had lost a son, so he wanted to fulfill his son’s dream of a tournament that only pokemon could take part in, so submit pokemon, you can submit OTs but if they do anything at all to help the pokemon they’re instantly killed, then listed a series of joke requirements that contradicted each other and no real form. Since it didn’t ask for personality or anything, I collected all the pokemon I’ve done so far, modified some a bit, and sent those in:

re: Your review to His Return

18h agoA response to your review at https://www.fanfiction.net/r/11898560/Hey, thanks for the Pokemon! I was scared that his story would fade, but now it won’t! I had the whole story planned too, so it would’ve been a waste. Thanks!

4h agoWell, glad to help – but if you’ve got a story you’re excited about, don’t let other people hold it back! There’s stuff like random pokemon generators you could use too.
2h agoI know, but the whole point of the story was for interaction!
2h agoIt’s not very interactive, though. You want pokemon characters for a tournament, but all you say about it is it’s being run by REDACTED who I assume is a human but you don’t say, and that trainers can’t participate making it unclear why they’d bring their pokemon to it, then a bunch of joke rules instead of anything readers could engage with. Were you just expecting people to say pokemon they’d be excited to see fight? I don’t think anyone really cares about that, and if they did, it’d probably be certain matchups in particular and not just that they really care that an aron shows up at all.
10m agoHm, your right! Better start my new story then!
9m agoOK! It’s erased!

Then there’s The PokeGamer, where some guy dies and gets the option to wake up in the pokeworld. He requests OCs without a form or any real information on what he’s looking for, so, more Sheshas!

Age: Teen.

Gender: Female.

Clothes: Extremely plain, boring clothes, always spotless.

Appearance: Forgettably ordinary.

Her team changes often but is almost always made of common pokemon and generally they’re physically focused normal or fighting types. None of the pokemon ever use difficult or elemental moves, just stuff that can be accomplished with kicking, punching, etc. The only exception is that a psychic pokemon may use a few psychic moves. They fight silently and completely in tune with their trainer, and can power through status or flinch effects like they don’t even feel them. Despite this, she isn’t a particularly tough trainer to beat. Opposing pokemon find her pokemon creepy.

Personality: She hangs out in remote areas. She’s mute but capable of communicating telepathically, and hates being in confined or well-populated places. Relatedly, she has an invisible and always-on “personal space bubble” of fluctuating shape around her at all times. She avoids anything messy and won’t move around in rainy, dusty, muddy, etc conditions. She has no interest in traveling with others and will never ask to battle, though she’ll always accept one.

Brief Backstory: A member of the Shesha clan, a bunch of boring people spread out across the regions who share these quirks and never seem to do anything but hike around with their pokemon.

You don’t specify region, so I’ll split this up into several characters.

Kanto/Johto
Name: Madhava Shesha
Team when encountered: Mankey, stantler, rattata, sentret, geodude.
Team if encountered again: Slowpoke, krabby, shellder.

Hoenn
Name: Padma Shesha
Team when encountered: Spinda, sandshrew, skarmory, zigzagoon.
Team if encountered again: Skitty, shroomish, abra, whismur, nincada.

Sinnoh
Name: Anila Shesha
Team when encountered: Four bunary.
Team if encountered again: Aipom, hoothoot, munchlax, azurill, meditite.

Unova
Name: Jyoti Shesha
Team when encountered: Zangoose, seviper, two patrat, minccino, durant.
Team if encountered again: Patrat, lillipup, durant, throh.

Finally, there’s this weird one, Cavalry Academia, that’s really a rip-off of some completely different anime with a light sprinkle of pokemon references.

Name: Harry Blackstone

Age: Whatever makes sense for a 4th year.

Gender: M

Year: 4th

Rank: B

Personality: Harry likes to view himself as the chivalrous knight. He’ll do things that fit that (regardless of if anyone wants him to, or sometimes especially if they don’t) as long as they’re really easy or fun, but won’t stress about living up to the role beyond that. He was a diligent student when younger but has a terrible work ethic now and only does things if someone’s demanding it and he has no way of wiggling out.

Harry regularly complains about how terrible his luck is with girls.

Appearance: He has shaggy dark hair, tan skin and golden brown eyes. He’s extremely tall, 6’9″.

Clothing: He has a long tan duster coat and tends to dress in browns and greys, nothing fancy or expensive.

Weapon: Quarterstaff made of white oak capped with silver on either end.

Weapon augments: Can shoot bursts of psychic energy.

Pokemon soul: Kadabra.

Appearance after transforming: Skin gains a more golden color like that of a kadabra, star appears on forehead.

Skills: Harry’s good with tricks, be they card-related or suckerpunching someone to get a win. He’s also got a lot of raw power than somewhat makes up for the fact he’s not trying as hard as many other people are.

Background: Harry was raised by magician parents who traveled around with a circus, giving him a spotty education and little chance to make friends with other kids. Before long he manifested the pokemon soul business and realized he could become a knight. He was thrilled to find out he could do something like real magic and agreed to leave his parents and be raised by a mentor who could teach him more, ending up with a big boost to his education and skills. Unfortunately, his mentor wasn’t a particularly nice person and Harry absorbed all his opinions without question so he’ll often repeat stuff that sounds like someone’s drunk great-grandpa.

Reason why he/she wants to become a Knight: Harry likes the idea of being someone popularly viewed as a hero. He doesn’t have any noble goals underlying that and has never given any real thought to what “heroism” is, thinking about it with about as much nuance as children’s book about a knight slaying a dragon to get the girl.

Family: He has a mother and father he thinks of fondly, but who he hasn’t seen in quite a while. He’s much less fond of his mentor, who was a lot harder on him, but that’s really the guy who shaped him.

Likes: Showing off. Getting by with minimal effort. These two work out in practice to him being extremely lazy when no one’s watching and lying that he’ll totally get on that when asked to do something, but he’ll throw himself at any problem that has an audience and a quick solution, sometimes exhausting himself or even causing an injury. If a tree falls on someone, he’ll shove himself in front of any other do-gooder, lift it well clear, and end up with a back injury that prevents him from getting up the next day. In contrast, if he’s asked to pass along a message that a storm’s coming and people should get inside to avoid a tree falling on them, he’ll say he’ll totally get on that and then go back to whatever he was doing.

He’s also a fan of steak, girls, and older moves where men are men.

Dislikes: Doing work that doesn’t show everyone how cool he is, doing what a girl tells him, other people being better than him. He also really hates explaining himself or anything really, preferring to make his own decisions and keep everyone else in the dark.

Desired traits in friends: Being awesome but less awesome than he is, being impressed by him, having stuff he might need to borrow, being a hot girl.

Desired traits in romance: Harry likes the challenge of going after someone who keeps telling him no. He also has really strong opinions on exactly how much makeup a girl should wear before it’s too much and terrible.

Affiliation to my OC: Rival.

Additional info: Loosely inspired by the main character of the Dresden Files.

Favorite Pokemon: Purugly.

Also, the first appearance of one of my OCs in the wild! Yuki has debuted in Silver Scarlet Academy.

Is cavalry chivalry spellcheck fail maybe? It works, sort of.

So much back story is required for OCs. Life story on demand plz?

    1. Farla says:

Even more hilariously, no! It’s a translation fail from the Japanese title, which was literally Rakudai Kishi no Kyabarurii and people figured that was supposed to be Cavalry for some reason (thus the summary saying the title is Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry) but an actual translation, according to Wikipedia, is The Heroic Tales of the Failure Knight and it’s been localized as Chivalry of a Failed Knight.

Plugging it into google translate, you do get cavalry if you delete some characters.

  2. Septentrion Euchoreutes says:

A 6’9″ 18 year old male? That’s very far out of the standard distribution. I wouldn’t consider it good practice to submit OCs like that, even if they are based on existing characters.

    1. illhousen says:

That’s the joke. Harry is a kinda ridiculous character, and playing up his ridiculousness can only lead to good things.

      1. Farla says:

That’s actually not playing up his tallness, it’s straight up word of God that Harry isn’t a mere six and a half feet but towers above even the alpha males.

        1. Roarke says:

He was born to look down on people.

        2. illhousen says:

Hm, “preserving the ridiculousness” would be better to say. SE’s proposition was to alter OCs to be more reasonable and realistic even when the source material was not.

          1. Septentrion Euchoreutes says:

I think the top .2% with huge boots would service to get the point across. He could still also be growing from age 18-21.

            1. Farla says:

I’d think being top .2% would too! But Word of God is that no, Harry must be that ridiculously tall, and who am I to argue?

Also Harry can’t wear huge boots, that’s practically high heels!

“Also, the first appearance of one of my OCs in the wild! Yuki has debuted in Silver Scarlet Academy.”

I think that superhero parody thingy did it first, actually.

    1. Farla says:

Oh, yeah. The first appearance of an OC I didn’t just invent out of spite and who has something to do with the actual fandom, though!

    2. Mini-Farla says:

Huh? Where? I did a basic Ctrl+F search but didn’t find any mention of the guy. Farla seems to have submitted him after the story already had a lot of chapters, so it may not have updated with him yet.

      1. illhousen says:

        9th chapter, at the beginning:

Smith rolls his eyes. “Such a mary-stu.” Smith commented.

“Danny, that is high rude to bully a student like that.”

“That’s censorship! I am allowed to spread my opinion!” He replied.

I didn’t read closely because the story holds zero appeal to me, though, so don’t know how it went.

  4. An Author's Pen says:

Why do the Sheshas have their pokemon use only simple physical moves? I’ve been wondering . . .

    1. Farla says:

Except for Ormarr and Maia, they’re all puppetting about corpses.

      1. An Author's Pen says:

Oh, nice. I mean, I feel sort of stupid for not getting it, but also that’s really creepy and smart.

        1. Farla says:

Don’t be! It’s not supposed to be obvious, it’s supposed to be just a mysterious weird bit.
