Yushuv with the torc of Ho-oh, Miki the pokemon ranger trainee, Raven flipping the bird to the very concept of The Call, Ormarr Shesha, Yuki, Anand Shesha, Kit the definitely a real human, Hunter and Manectric.
Unexplained Circumstances is a pokemon-becomes-real fic with a side of sudden superpowers or something, not sure.
Name:
personality:
Object of power: eg: gauntlet of darkrai.
Pokemon 1:
Pokemon 2:
Pokemon 3:
Pokemon 4:
can have more or less than one pokemon
Any specific moves that Your character has: eg extreme speed
relation to Austin: sibling cousin or none is acceptable
relation to pokemon 1: lovers, friends, outcasts.
Special talents: eg play the flute
8 slots open and pendant, amulet, bracelet, and earrings have already been taken for accessories and Arceus, shaymin, giratina, and zapdos have been taken for legendaries
I’m torn between thinking I’m not sure there’s that many different accessories given humans only have four limbs and a neck and thinking it’s actually kind of clever to try to force people to be inventive by preventing overlap.
——
Name: Yushuv
Personality: Yushuv comes off as a pretty normal person most of the time. He’ll laugh, he’ll joke, he’ll do minor things if someone asks, but he won’t go further than that. Yushuv is a reedy kid who expects to be curbstomped if he actually started fights. Given the chance to strike back, though, he would absolutely take it.
Object of power: Torc of Ho-oh
Pokemon 1: Honchcrow
Pokemon 2: Heliolisk
Pokemon 3: Talonflame
Pokemon 4: Mandibuzz
Any specific moves that Your character has: Can manifest flaming wings and use fire moves through that. Probably minor ones to start.
relation to Austin: None.
relation to pokemon 1: Alliance for mutual benefit.
Special talents: A fast runner with good balance and general dexterity.
Next is Ranger Training, which doesn’t have a set form and also limits it to two total pokemon, one of which must be capable of flying and the other able to handle “all-terrain”. While it makes sense, it does suggest there may be similar issues with overlap.
Character: Miki
Pokemon: Gyarados and Tropius. Miki’s always riding one or the other. Gyarados is quite protective of others while Tropius is younger and has less sense of responsibility.
Appearance: Miki has a nice patina of scars from an accident, including on her face. Her skin is on the darker end of tan so they stand out. She dresses in plain, practical clothes that are easy to get on and off, although the material itself is always high quality.
Personality: Miki was given a magikarp when she was eight and bonded deeply with the pokemon. She cares a lot about others and wants to become a ranger for the ability to protect people. While she’s polite, she’s not interested in forming new friendships with other humans and spends her time with her pokemon.
Battle style: Between pokemon, extremely cautious. Miki wants to minimize harm as much as possible and prefers to disuade opponents or put them to sleep if possible. She’s uncomfortable with practice battles, although she goes along with it for her pokemon’s sake. Dealing with human troublemakers, however, her attitude is very different, and she aims to stop them as quickly as she can by whatever means necessary.
Then another academy one, Dice Roll: Torn Hearts, Melody of War! At least this one has options for non-battlers, so I go with Raven, who is fed up with everything to the point I give her one of the special mcguffins just so she can sit around refusing to use it. In the process I realize that Raven is pretty much just a more athletic Miki with fewer options to channel herself into doing something productive.

Personality:
Other
——-
Name: Raven
Age: 15
Gender: Female
Are they attending the Academy: Yes
Staff/Student: Student
Gang/Mafia/Government/Mutual: None. Raven blames everyone involved and wants nothing to do with it. She’s nominally aligned with the government enough to be going to the academy.
Views on the War: If she could snap her fingers and end it, sure. But she’s tired of seeing pokemon being thrown into the fight and hopes everyone else involved drops dead. She’s willing to keep quiet about her opinions in return for the education/access to medical supplies for her pokemon.
Starter/Ace Pokemon: Sickly meowstic incapable of fighting.
Year: 2
Class: Health care.
Build: Lean with muscle.
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 150
Skin Tone: Extremely pale.
Eye Color: Dark blue
Hair Color and Style: Black, long, straight, tied back.
Other Features/Accessories: Calloused hands, thin scars.
Main Outfit: Plain shirt with long sleeves that are loose enough to roll up if necessary, plain pants that can also be rolled up if she needs to.
Formal Outfit: Black shirt, black pants.
Other Occasion Outfits: N/A She sleeps in her clothes. That way she’s ready to rush out if something happens. She does her best to avoid any other occasion as she thinks it’s a waste of time, and won’t dress up for it if forced to attend.
Personality: Raven cares about taking care of pokemon. She’s sick of seeing them suffer over some stupid war humans decided to have. She’s standoffish and prickly around others, and also extremely protective of her meowstic.
History: Raven found the meowstic, then an espurr, in a dumpster, in a trash bag that had a bunch of other dead baby pokemon in it. A local business was trying to mass breed pokemon to meet the demand for battlers and wasn’t going to let a thing like decent care cut into their profits. She spent the next six years keeping him alive despite his terrible health. Her parents died a year after she found him in yet another conflict of the war.
Drive Holder: Psychic, on an armband she keeps under her clothing. Someone took her for an easy target and she got very lucky when she fought back. She doesn’t want to use it for fighting but keeps it hidden because she doesn’t want to give anyone else something they’ll use in the war.
Family, Siblings or Other Notable Characters: Her family’s dead. The extended family she knows of is dead.
Battling Style: She’ll punch your face in for suggesting it.
If required to take part in a formal match, Raven will focus on stalling and avoiding injury. If required to use all three of her pokemon in a formal match by the school, Raven will walk out. In an actual fight, Raven will focus on the other trainer and/or have her pokemon use a disorienting attack and then run for it. Rules are for people who aren’t concerned about surviving.
Skills: Diagnostics. Raven can tell what’s wrong with a pokemon at a glance and usually figure out what needs to be done as well. She’s also pretty good in a fight herself. She has a really high pain tolerance.
Hobbies: Raven had to make special food for her pokemon, and she’s come to enjoy cooking in general as a sort of low-key mix of chemistry and art. She spends her free time reading science books.
Likes: Her pokemon, other pokemon, being left alone, being able to take care of herself.
Dislikes: Trainers, groups, anyone getting near her meowstic or really, any of her pokemon.
Romance: Raven would love anyone who 1) accepted her meowstic isn’t a battler and didn’t start an argument with her about how pokemon aren’t that fragile, here watch me shove it off the table you’ll see and 2)didn’t then tell her that it’s a waste of time to keep and she should spend her energy on a halfway useful pokemon.
Pokemon Team:
Pokemon Name: Meowstic
Nickname: Baltasar
Gender: Male
Moves: Can’t battle.
When Caught?: Found when she was nine.
Can it perform BREAK evolution or Mega Evolve: No.
Personality: Thoughtful and extremely intelligent. Baltasar likes to help Raven out with her work, although he’s rarely out when she’s actually dealing with other pokemon out of concern he’ll catch a disease. He’s less concerned about his own safety than Raven is and generally approaches risks stoically. He moves slowly and with deliberation.
Other: Repeated broken bones have left Baltasar stiff and mildly arthritic. He’s on weak painkillers as a result.
Pokemon Name: Vulpix
Nickname: Brighid
Gender: Female
Moves: Dark pulse, energy ball, flamethrower, protect.
When Caught?: Raven acquired her in the aftermath of an attack from a trainer who wasn’t going need pokemon any longer.
Can it perform BREAK evolution or Mega Evolve: No.
Personality: Brighid is stronger than Nirupama, so she views herself as the group battler responsible for taking down a threat. Aware she’s none too durable herself, she favors sudden attacks of overwhelming force. She springs into action the moment she thinks there’s a threat and doesn’t stop until she’s sure her opponent is out of commission. Of all of Raven’s pokemon, only Brighid is really happy as a fighter.
Other: Brighid did not have the best life with her old trainer and hasn’t developed a full six tails as a result.
Pokemon Name: Inkay
Nickname: Nirupama
Gender: Female
Moves: Reflect, psybeam, hypnosis, protect.
When Caught?: Raven acquired her in the aftermath of an attack from another trainer who also wasn’t going need pokemon any longer.
Can it perform BREAK evolution or Mega Evolve: No.
Personality: Nirupama is inquisitive in a sneaky sort of way. She likes to float around examining everything but makes sure to put it back when she’s done. She’s shy when dealing with others normally but steps up when it’s an actual fight, as she knows she has to be responsible and make sure Baltasar (and Raven herself) are kept safe, since she’s much tougher than they are. She also serves as a helper for Raven when dealing with injured pokemon.
Other: Nirupama prefers to be out of her pokeball after her first trainer’s death to a surprise attack.
Vol Brisées is a surprisingly down to earth fanfic after what I’ve seen, about a girl who wants to be a performer but her evil parents insist she be a trainer. Now that I’m aware that the later anime gendered the damn things, it seems a better story would be about a boy wanting to be one than a girl whose parents just arbitrarily ban her from trying to be Kalos Queen, but at least it isn’t Babby’s First Sexism Fic where the girl wants to be a trainer and it being a class thing is reasonable.

While Ormarr’s whole story isn’t the best fit for a more low-key thing about wanting to be Kalos Queen, my aim with these guys is to have them just show up, battle, and leave again.
Name: Ormarr Shesha
Nickname(s): Nope.
Alias(es): Ormarr is only Ormarr for now.
Title(s): Nope.
Age: She says she’s fifteen yet somehow is still terrible at training pokemon.
Home Region: Kalos
APPEARANCE
Height: Five feet.
Weight: Thin and light.
Eye shape: The biggest doe eyes to ever doe.
Eye color: Light green.
Hair color: Whitish blonde.
Hairstyle: Long and wavy.
Build: Delicate.
Extra: She’s extremely pretty in a harmless, childlike way.
APPAREL
Everyday/Traveling: Plain, loose beige shirt/pants or dress. Flat-soled brown shoes.
Swimwear: She will absolutely never get in water around other people.
Sleepwear: Same clothes.
Formal/Contests/Performances: Slightly more elaborate white dress. Wouldn’t be doing things like contests, though, unless for some reason she was convinced it was the only possible way of accomplishing her goal.
Accessories: She travels extremely light, and hates wearing anything extra.
Personality: Ormarr is somewhat contradictory. She seems to really want to be a good trainer and is willing to listen to advice from anyone and everyone for any tips she can use, and she’s smart enough to know all sorts of things about pokemon and battling. And yet, her pokemon are spoiled rotten and she’ll call off a battle the moment one acts hurt, no matter how many people tell her she’s got to be tougher on them and that pokemon aren’t supposed to be the ones calling the shots.
Ormarr doesn’t like to talk and generally stays out of conversations that don’t relate to pokemon trainer tips. She’ll avoid giving any opinions on a subject if asked.
Likes: Spicy food. Traveling. Hanging out peacefully with pokemon. Experiencing new things.
Dislikes: Sweets, surprisingly enough. Crowds. Traveling in bad weather – any time it’s dusty, rainy, snowy or just muddy, she’ll wait it out somewhere sheltered no matter how long it takes.
Fears:
Other people. Ormarr is good at putting on a brave front, but she doesn’t like talking about herself to others and can’t sleep in the same room as another trainer. She never stays at pokecenters as a result.
She hates the thought of failing someone who needed her, or another suffering in her place. She’s always scared one of her pokemon will get seriously hurt in battle.
While she doesn’t think of herself as “afraid” of them, dark/bug/ghost pokemon rattle her if they appear suddenly and when she isn’t expecting them. It’s like how someone could be okay with bugs in general but get super freaked out if a spider falls onto their face.
Strengths:
Ormarr is genuinely clever and extremely observant of her surroundings.
She has a strong psychic talent, to the point she communicates exclusively through telepathy.
She’s exceptionally good at lying.
Weaknesses:
Ormarr has a difficulty interacting with others and is particularly stressed when dealing with multiple people at once. Relatedly, she has an irregular, always-there “personal space bubble” around her, which is awkward at best. It’s also yet another thing in the way of her desire to not stand out and attract attention.
Seeing others hurt upsets her a lot, which is really hampering her as a trainer as she panics at even minor scrapes. Even when the stakes are high she struggles a lot with anything that risks others.
Inexperience. Ormarr didn’t grow up watching championship battles on TV or watching local trainers fight, so an awful lot of stuff is new to her.
Hobbies: She loves the outdoors. Being out in the open, the wind ruffling her, the sky above and grass below… If that was all there was to being a trainer, everything would be fine.
Ambitions/Dreams: She wants to become a great enough trainer to be able to meet/challenge a famous trainer she heard about who caught a legendary pokemon, a latios.
History: Ormarr and her family lived far off the beaten track. She had an uneventful childhood and only decided to set out as a serious trainer after hearing of the trainer.
POKEMON TEAM (up to six)
1) Mawile – Mouthless Mirror (was “Mouthless” for short, until a trainer said how weird that sounded and it became “Mirror”.)
Gender:F
Personality: Prior to leaving with Ormarr, Mouthless Mirror was a big fish in a small pond. She prides herself on her abilities of deception, presenting a harmless front and attacking when others least expect it. Unfortunately, this is far less useful when sent out into a battle than it was back home in a dark cave.
Movepool: Astonish, taunt, bite, vice grip, sucker punch.
How they met: She lived not far from Ormarr and the two had met years back. When Ormarr was deciding what to do, she went to Mouthless Mirror to ask for help.
Relationship: Close friends.
2) Seviper – Two.
Gender:F
Personality: All bark, no bite. Far more timid than she first appears. She’s blustery and aggressive enough that other pokemon might back down and avoid a fight, but she was no good at going for the kill herself. She’s also quite young.
Movepool: Wrap, swagger, lick, poison tail, screech.
How they met: Ormarr practically worships Rayquaza, so she started looking for a snakelike pokemon to start off her journey with in the hopes it’d give her good luck. Two volunteered to go because she’d heard trained pokemon were extremely powerful and she wanted to become a better fighter.
Relationship: Kind of a big sis/little sis thing.
3) Sentret – Keen
Gender:F
Personality: Clingy. Easily discouraged and extremely anxious out of battle, but fights to the best of her ability during one regardless of how outmatched she might be. Very obedient.
Movepool: Defense curl, rollout, quick attack, toxic.
How they met: Ormarr found the pokemon crying after being released by her trainer, no doubt due to being so weak.
Relationship: Absolute worship of Ormarr/deeply uncomfortable with that.
–
–
–
Hoenn bonus option:
Seedot – Autumn Bounce (Autumn)
Gender:M
Personality: Cheery with a dash of malice, Autumn Bounce has a prankster’s temperment but currently doesn’t have any ideas bigger than startling people by dropping on them or grabbing something out of a person’s hands. Does respect what Ormarr’s trying to do and won’t intentionally mess that up.
Movepool: Bullet seed, bide, harden.
How they met: Dropped on Ormarr’s head.
Relationship: Sheepdog corralling overexcited lamb.
And another academy fic, Silver Scarlet Academy, which is entirely straightforward. I go with Yuki, my only remaining legit serious trainer who isn’t secretly a floating psychic dragon.

Alright, before we move on to Pokémon, I need to set some ground rules:
~I am using a points system I’ve seen very effectively used in other Fanfics. Every OC gets 10 points to spend on Pokémon to start out with. Stage one evolution each cost one point, stage two costs two, and stage three and beyond cost three. Now, just because a Pokémon is assigned a certain evolutionary stage does not mean they will not evolve, but they will start out and stay in that stage for a long time.
~I am going to be using a lot of the anime’s logic when it comes to battling. So EV and IV stats and stuff like that will be largely ignored really. This also insures that people don’t feel bad about choosing, say a Sentrent over a Hydregion, and will pick Pokémon they like rather than for power. I’m not saying that high leveled or third staged evolution Pokémon will be weak, but rather I am giving every Pokémon a chance to shine.
~No legendaries. Just to be fair to everyone. Though who knows? Maybe one of your OCs will catch a glimpse and see one for themselves.
~Starter Pokémon. Meh this topic always causes some controversy. I don’t think limiting starters keep you from being overpowered, because really, that’s why we have type advantages. But just in case, I am allowing no more than two in one OC’s party at once. You may have multiple, but only use two in your party at once.
~Pseudo-Legendaries are limited to one. No exceptions. This includes their first and second stage evolutions as well. Pseudo-Legendaries include: Dragonite, Tryanitar, Salamence, Metagross, Garchomp, Hydregion, and Goodra.
~Speaking of Pseudo-Legendaries and third stage evolutions, most will tend to be at least somewhat disobedient to their trainers until later on. This is just to keep some trainers from being utter powerhouses.
~Mega Evolution. No. Just no. Please don’t make me input this.
~Shinies are allowed but will cost an extra two points and is limited to one per OC.
~No two Pokémon of the same species are allowed. This does not apply to Pokémon like Wurmple and Burmy, who have different diverging paths.
~My exception to limiting Pokémon is with these families below:
Ralts line
Riolu/Lucario
Eevee/ Eeveelutions
These Pokémon, while they are amazing and cool, are super overused in OCs I noticed. If you want one, you must make a choice and pick only one. Ex. If I want a Ralts, I cannot pick an Eevee or a Riolu too.
~Remember you don’t need a party of six if you don’t want one. Many trainers will be catching Pokémon anyways.
Alright, now that it is cleared up, here is the Pokémon sheet:
Nickname: If any.
Level: What level would you like it to start at? Where would you like it to end up at?
Species:
Gender:
Ability: I am not a big fan of egg abilities, but I will do it if you really want one. Just don’t go overboard please.
Special Moves: TM? HM? Tutored? Bred? These moves may be taught later on, or will be worked on later.
Moves:
Personality:
Battle Experience: How often has this Pokémon battled or been in contests?
——-
Name: Yuki Maki
Age: 14
Birthday: March 8th.
Sidenote: Maki means shepherd of cattle, March’s gem is bloodstone for courage, and “The symbolism backing number Eight deals largely with business, success, and wealth. This is due to the fact that Eight represents continuation, repetition, and cycles. Such elements are seen in arenas where success is obtained simply because of dogged determination and repetition. Also, matters of business and wealth largely depend on cycles to fulfill their manifestation. It’s like the snowball analogy: As it continues to roll, in gets bigger and bigger with each revolution. Eight represents that kind of momentum.”
I don’t know why anyone would actually have an opinion on a character’s exact birthday and my only guess is that the fact the questions are directed to “you” means the author was expecting a lot of people to just give their own.
Year in the Academy: Freshman.
Home Region: Unova
Physical Appearance: Short, straight black hair, greenish-hazel eyes, in good shape.
Clothes: For everyday clothing, Yuki favors the practical – plain shirt and pants that fit without restricting movement, darker in color. She’s not really into fashion.
Contest Dress: Frilly long dress, blue with pink lace.
Tournament Apparel: Same basic outfit, but likely better fitted and much less worn.
Dress Clothes: Well tailored suit.
Family and Relationships: Mother and father but no siblings. They approve of her choices and don’t bug her beyond that.
Skills or Special Talents: A willingness to do absolutely anything in order to be the best, no matter who she has trample in the process.
Hobbies and Interests: Yuki is not the most interesting person to get to know. She spends her free time obsessively training her pokemon. She’s always happy to talk shop with fellow trainers, but the conversation will only go in one direction – she’d just love to hear anything you’ve learned, but she’s certainly not going to share any real tips of her own. She’s even willing to feign weakness on this front and deflect questions by claiming to not know that much.
That said, no one can do that 24/7. Yuki enjoys unwinding watching TV shows and movies. She’ll chat about them as well, although she rarely has any strong opinions – TV is time to turn her brain off, as far as she’s concerned.
Classes/ Preferred Course Study: Battle course, caretaking course. The appeals course appeals, but she’s only interested in contests and doesn’t have the time to waste on learning how to do every other possible option as well. She might try it another year.
Methods of Learning: Yuki prefers hearing over reading and wants to put what she’s been told into practice as soon as possible – only then is it really cemented in. She’s doing about equally well in both of her courses – she’s a bit better in natural skill at the caretaking course but she’s only really interested in battling, so that’s where her extra effort is going. She’s only taking the other course because she knows she needs healthy, devoted pokemon to have an edge in battle.
Personality: Intensely driven.
Friends: It depends on what a friend is. Yuki will happily hang out with anyone with similar interests, but she’ll view them as competition and spend the whole time trying to glean anything that’ll help her beat them. Ironically, it’s with people she has little in common with that she’ll actually relax and enjoy the company of. She’s fine with anyone who wants to share a couch and a movie marathon, whether they’re a fellow casual watcher or someone who does deep analysis of every scene.
Future Goals and Dreams: Be the very best, like no one ever was.
Likes: WINNING. Watching TV.
Dislikes: Not having finer control over her schedule and being forced to waste time rather than mimmaxing things for optimal winning. She has absolutely no desire to actually work at a pokecenter, she just wants to know how to tell there’s a problem early, keep her pokemon in top condition, and get maximum bonding for the bonus it gives her. She definitely doesn’t care about sitting through lessons on baking poffins or making films to learn how to do well in contests. She knows being a top anything is a ton of work and that any spare time to just relax beyond that is very limited, so she’s really cranky at the idea of doing stuff she doesn’t want to that isn’t furthering her goals and is just eating up time she could’ve used to see a movie.
Fears:
Yuki’s honestly not a big fan of darkness. She’ll avoid going out late even if there’s a well-lit path and if anything bright light just makes it worse – anything where there’s a big wall of blackness she finds incredibly creepy.
Being spied on. Yuki is very much of the mentality that there can be only one, and guards her ideas and strategies zealously.
Battling Style: While Yuki prefers to take down opponents quickly and thus win quickly, she’s aware that’s other people’s first impulse as well. Therefore, she tends toward patience, setting up for her inevitable victory with a series of moves opponents won’t realize until it’s too late or simply fighting very cautiously, relying on her opponent getting fed up and ordering risky attacks she can take advantage of. Yuki is the sort of person who would absolutely spend five hours stalling in the most boring battle to ever happen so long as it meant she got to win at the end. (Yuki’s pokemon, on the other hand…)
Training: Yuki wants to be not only alone but actively hidden. She doesn’t have any type preferences or anything else that would get in the way of optimizing herself against any possible opponent.
Other: Yuki is totally happy to fight people she’s completely outmatched by – you only improve through challenge and if she has to lose a hundred times first, she’s fine with that. She knows she’s still got a long way to go on her goals and she also really doesn’t care how badly beaten her pokemon get in the process of that.
EDIT
how you would like your OCs dorm room to look like: Yuki would have a shelf of books, both required textbooks and extra reading she’s doing on her own, as well as a big library of DVDs. Her walls would be covered in dramatic/inspiring posters from movies or cool moments in a pokemon battle. Her room would be busy somewhat cluttered but not to the point of messiness.
Species: Pignite
Level: ~30 at the moment.
Gender: F
Ability: Blaze
Special Moves: Sucker punch, yawn. Yuki’d like to get her hands on TMs, particularly stuff like grass knot/solarbeam, will-o-wisp, and toxic. Thunderpunch would also be welcome.
Moves: Defense curl/rollout combo, smog, flame charge.
Personality: The most loyal of Yuki’s loyal pokemon and very protective of the girl. The only one remaining of her starting team.
Battle Experience: Extensive in fights and occasionally in contests. She’s definitely much more comfortable in a fight than on a stage. She’s generally willing and able to follow whatever Yuki’s orders are.
Species: Sigilyph.
Level: ~25
Gender: M
Ability: Wonder skin.
Special Moves: Future sight, ancientpower.
Moves: Miracle eye, hypnosis, psybeam, air cutter.
Personality: Rather detached and remote, but flawlessly obedient and that’s really all that matters, isn’t it? Yuki’s most recent addition to her team.
Battle Experience: Minimal, at least with Yuki.
Species: Blissey
Level: ~15
Gender: F
Ability: Healer
Special Moves: Aromatherapy, substitute.
Moves: Softboiled, doubleslap.
Personality: The team mom pokemon, more concerned about everyone being okay than battling. Almost certainly the next one to be replaced on Yuki’s team unless Blissey suddenly starts working way harder at battling.
Battle Experience: Significantly in battles, somewhat in contests. She very rarely wins a given fight but is usually used to set up or support another pokemon’s eventual victory and sometimes is used to stall a battle until, say, a burned pokemon finally keels over.
Species: Drilbur
Level: ~25
Gender: F
Ability: Mold breaker.
Special Moves: Crush claw.
Moves: Metal claw, mud slap, dig.
Personality: Highly aggressive and very occasionally loses her temper and goes against orders for a straight attack.
Battle Experience: Battles only, and a lot of them.
Species: Dragonair
Level: 30, just evolved
Gender: F
Ability: Shed skin.
Special Moves: Dragon pulse, ice beam.
Moves: Wrap, thunder wave.
Personality: Egg-raised by Yuki and endlessly grateful to “Mom” for being allowed to help on her team. Has less of an attitude suited for battle than Pignite or Drilbur but makes up for it with her desire to please Yuki.
Battle Experience: The only one of Yuki’s pokemon to be used more often in contests, maybe a 60/40 split.
Species: Eevee
Level: ~5
Gender: M
Ability: Anticipation
Special Moves: Wish, bite.
Moves: Tail whip, sand attack.
Personality: Still a baby. Doesn’t understand concepts like trainers and assumes Yuki is what his evolved form looks like, much like Yuki’s dratini once did.
Battle Experience: Nil, practice only.
Platinum Heart, another one without a form and that’s just a standard OT fic. Unfortunately, it’s also got the emotional depth of dried paint. I decide to see if I can get an actual population of Sheshas going and reuse a previous character sheet.
Name: Anand Shesha
Age: Teen.
Gender: Male.
Clothes: Extremely plain, boring clothes, always spotless.
Appearance: Forgettably ordinary.
Team: His current team is two bidoof, an abra, a machop, and a magikarp (capable of tackle). His team changes often (if met again, say, heracross, aipom, buneary, meditite). It’s almost always made of common pokemon and usually they’re physically focused normal or fighting types. None of the pokemon ever use difficult or elemental moves, just stuff that can be accomplished with kicking, punching, etc. The only exception is that a psychic pokemon may use a few psychic moves. They fight silently and completely in tune with their trainer, and can power through status or flinch effects like they don’t even feel them. Despite this, he isn’t a particularly tough trainer to beat. Opposing pokemon find his pokemon creepy.
Personality: Anand hangs out in remote areas. He’s mute but capable of communicating telepathically, and hates being in confined or well-populated places. Relatedly, he has an invisible and always-on “personal space bubble” of fluctuating shape around him at all times. He avoids anything messy and won’t move around in rainy, dusty, muddy, etc conditions. He has no interest in traveling with others and will never ask to battle, though he’ll always accept one.
Brief Backstory: A member of the Shesha clan, a bunch of boring people spread out across the regions who share Anand’s quirks and never seem to do anything but hike around with their pokemon.
A Yearning for the Mud: Wallace Pearce, heir to a multi-million dollar corporation, flees from home after an accident results in casualty. Scared and on the run, Wallace looks to escape his current life by starting a new one at a higher education Pokémon school, Radix University. But Wallace quickly learns that his actions have consequences not even he can outrun. SYOC.
This one has multiple character options: Students, Trainers, Professors, University President, Kalos Champion, and Detectives. You can submit multiple ones overall but only one for each type. I asked for the trainer/student form and did those two.
Full Name:
Nickname(s): (Be sure to note if it’s a name only certain people would call them, like a close friend.)
Gender:
Age: (15+ for trainer | 18-22 for student)
Birthday: (MM/DD)
Year: (Student only: 18 & 19 are first years. 19 & 20 are second. 20 & 21 are third. 21 & 22 are fourth.)
Class: (Student only: Trainer, Coordinator, Breeder, Researcher, Undecided)
Home Region:
Role:
Physical Appearance: (No such thing as too much detail.)
Clothing: (I don’t necessarily want their exact outfit, but rather their style. However if there is something they wear often like a favorite jacket, you can list it, as well as any pieces of signature jewelry or accessories. Also, what would they wear to go swimming and to bed. And depending on what your character’s class is, what do they wear for events (battles, contests, lab work, field work.))
Relationships: (Is there anything important to know about their immediate family? Do they have issues with their parents? Do they have a boyfriend/girlfriend/best friend back home they miss or are glad to be away from?)
Friendships: (What kind of friend are they to others and what kind of friends do they look for?)
Romance: (Yes or no? Sexuality?)
Personality: (Like with physical description, there’s no such thing as too much.)
Background: (This means things about your character’s past. So if you’re student is a first year it would be what they were doing prior to coming to the university/what made them want to come. Or if they’re a returning student what they spent their summer doing (school work, relaxing, etc.)
Career Path: (If it helps, think of this as your story and at the very end what goal/rank/status would you like your character to have achieved?)
Hobbies:
Skills:
Campus Job: (Student only: I’d like to have student workers, so while this isn’t mandatory to fill in, if you’d like your character to have an on-campus job pick one for them. Hint, hint, I need an office worker.)
Likes:
Dislikes:
Fears:
Battle Style: (Do they use moves that affect an entire area? Do they prefer to weaken their opponent by draining health or with afflictions? Do they prefer to go all out with big attacks? Do they like to use strong defenses? Are they competitive battlers?)
POKÉMON
(For this section you may pick up to 10 Pokémon for your partner to either have or catch at some point. If you have a preference for which your character should be using at the start of the story be sure to make a note of it, they don’t have to have a full team at the start either. For those 10, you’ll have 15 points to distribute among them. A single Pokémon costs 1 point, for each evolution stage you chose to include it costs an additional point, Bulbasaur: 1 point | Dragonite: 3 points. Limitations are: One starter per character and no legendaries. I will allow pseudos and Eevee’s evolutions, but let’s not get crazy with it.)
Pokémon Species/Nickname:
Gender:
Personality: (Describe what the Pokémon’s relationship with its trainer is like, what it’s like in and out of battle.)
Level: (This will help me determine moves and match-ups.)
Moves: (Anything special you want your Pokémon to know. TMs, HMs, tutored and bred moves. Like I said above, please make your Pokémon match what you’ve already told me. If you’ve got bred only moves on all your Pokémon I hope your character is a breeder/or aiming to be a Frontier Brain or something.)
Evolution: (Do you want it to evolve? If yes, to what stage?)
Other: (Tell me about its battling experience, does it hold any items, has it won any contests, how long the trainer has had it? And any other important information you’d like to share.)

Since the student seems to allow for non-battling options, I go with Kit, and in the process get to work out the issue of what happened with Christopher’s pokemon and how Kit thinks about owning pokemon.
Full Name: Christopher Greenfield
Nickname(s): Kit, which is the name they prefer everyone to use.
Gender: M
Age: 18
Birthday: 02/26 (Clicked around on numerology sites and already forget what it was exactly. Something about being willing to see your goals through.)
Year: 1st.
Class: Undecided.
Home Region: Unova
Role: Side character.
Physical Appearance: Has very dark brown skin and short, straight brown hair. His eyes are hazel. He’s not very tall and looks a bit pudgy, but is a lot faster and more dexterous than people would expect when it comes to dodging anything.
Clothing: Kit goes for dull, baggy, unremarkable outfits and is very uncomfortable when asked to wear anything else – bright colors, pictures, words…anything people might pay attention to or worse, try to start a conversation about. The one exception to this is a silver locket he always wears around his neck on a very short chain. It contains a picture of him, his parents, and his sibling. Kit keeps his trainer ID and any other identification he needs in a small pouch he wears around his ankle. He gets incredibly anxious if he doesn’t know where that is and will drop everything to find it. He usually carries smoke balls and a bag of bright powder. Although Kit likes water, he wouldn’t go swimming around others.
Relationships: Kit has filed for and successfully been emancipated from his family, who haven’t seen him in years and likely don’t even know he’s in Kalos. He doesn’t have anything bad to say about them when they come up.
Friendships: This is hampered by Kit’s extreme skittishness – even something like a slap on the back will send him running for cover and he’ll never get within touching distance again. Despite this, he likes pretty much everyone he meets and loves being helpful, even when dealing with rude or demanding people. He’ll agree with people that his aversion to friendly shoving is “weird” and “really annoying” and continues to be nice, just from a safe distance.
Romance: Kit would love to be with anyone, but there’s the hurdle of finding someone he can trust that much.
Personality: Rather subservient, bordering on doormat at times. The only personal boundaries he’ll enforce are avoiding being shoved and insisting on having his ID at all times. He’ll do pretty much anything else to be friends with someone. Kit is torn between wanting to be around others and an intense fear of any sort of roughhousing. As such, he’s generally tense and alert but will try to socialize when possible. He really likes indoor settings where there are rules against doing things, like libraries.
Kit has a severe speech impediment and communicates through writing or typing. If calm he could manage a word or two that’s understandable but when stressed he’s completely unintelligible to anyone who isn’t extremely used to his speech already. He can be understood well enough by his pokemon to give orders, but he hates doing so because he’s terribly embarrassed by his poor pronunciation. He’ll only talk verbally if he has no other options or is absolutely certain he’s alone with his pokemon.
Background: Kit left to be a trainer as soon as he could. He did pretty well…and then one day he limped into a town to report his pokemon stolen. The only one he had on him an unhatched bulbasaur egg he’d bought a little while ago.
No signs of Kit’s other pokemon were found and shortly after he left Unova to head for Kalos. He’s made no effort to rebuild his team or even to properly train his bulbasaur despite how much money he paid for a top battler egg originally.
Kit was homeschooled prior to being a trainer and so has a somewhat spotty education, something he’s now working to fix.
Career Path: Kit just wants a job he can support himself with and that doesn’t involve any risk of getting shoved or hit by accident. He’d be satisfied with that. He seems best suited for a researcher job, provided it wasn’t one with a great deal of fieldwork.
Hobbies: Kit prides himself on his clear penmanship and likes to practice calligraphy. He keeps a diary, though the entries are all banal – the closest they get to interesting is him mentioning milestones his pokemon reached, and those are usually just things like “Hyacinth figured out how to climb a tree today!”, never things relevant to training a pokemon. He’s also a big fan of indoor activities in general – reading, going to movies, etc. He likes cooking but is very self-conscious about it and will only experiment with a recipe if he’s the only one eating it.
Skills: Data entry – he’s a very fast typist and knows his way around computers. Patience, politeness, an even temper, and defusing situations with frustrated or angry people. As long as he doesn’t expect things to come to blows he’s unruffled by most anything, even people screaming an inch from his face. He’s good at dealing with scared or obstinate pokemon as well, but finds working with hurt pokemon a lot to be depressing so he’s not cut out for pokecenter work.
Campus Job: Anything that involves being indoors behind a desk, and doesn’t involve too much in the way of non-pokemon-trainer experience that he doesn’t have.
Likes: Humanity. Civilization. Climate controlled shelters where everyone talks out their disagreements and then go sit at tables to eat a cooked meal, and then maybe read a book or something and then go to sleep in a bed.
Dislikes: Long periods outside. Rowdy people, or strangers he can’t tell will be rowdy or not. His voice. Extreme heat. Pokemon battles.
Fears: Getting hit by something. Being rejected by others.
Battle Style: The tapes of his battles at the League tournament show fights that are bold, flashy, and with at least a dozen explosions from attacks meeting head-on. Even when his pokemon are losing he doesn’t flag, shouting out new orders to try for as long as they’re standing. His voice is loud and clear.
These days Kit will refuse a battle and leave if pressed. If forced to participate, he’ll give his bulbasaur bright powder to hold, mumble a couple moves then forfeit once Hyacinth takes a few hits. In an actual conflict (such as with an aggressive wild pokemon) he’d order sleep power and then retreat. He’s a very fast runner when motivated.
POKÉMON
Pokémon Species/Nickname: Bulbasaur/Hyacinth.
Gender: M
Personality: Rambunctious but earnest child.
Kit keeps Hyacinth out often even though the bulbasaur is far more active than normal and will end up getting into everything the moment Kit looks away. Hyacinth is also the only thing that’ll make Kit spend extended time outdoors. Whenever possible, Kit will take Hyacinth to a pokemon park where he can play with other pokemon. Kit’s always on the lookout for other bulbasaur in particular for Hyacinth to meet.
Hyacinth, for his part, will intervene to protect Kit from any attack, accidental or otherwise. With his fast reaction times he can do things like intercept a thrown item or grab someone’s arm, although if he’s off playing he doesn’t have any sixth sense that would alert him to it.
Kit may usually act like Hyacinth is a child but he’ll still use the pokemon as a shield if it comes down to it.
Level: ~10
Moves: Hyacinth is certified (with a money-back guarantee) to know giga drain, leaf storm, petal dance, power whip, and endure. In his actual life, he just uses vine whip and sleep powder. Attempts to use the other moves might fizzle or go out of control given his lack of experience with them.
Other: Hyacinth usually holds some item, but not for battle. Kit carries a bag of things like air balloons and other toys for Hyacinth, with his favorite being his two pokedolls, a bulbasaur and a zorua. The only exception are smoke balls. If Kit is extremely concerned about a place he’s going to or people he’s meeting he’ll give Hyacinth one to hold instead, just in case.
Kit is visibly uncomfortable when people suggest catching or buying more pokemon. He’d only get others if something comes up where young pokemon need to be adopted, at which point he’d take it regardless of what it was. If somehow it happened that there were a whole bunch of pokemon like that (some giant breeding center is closed down because they were a front for an evil team, say) his preference would be for other bulbasaur.
Fun fact: the internet gave me the following for hyacinth meanings:
Purple – asking for forgiveness or symbolizes deep regret
Yellow – yellow means jealousy in the world of hyacinths
White – means loveliness or prayers for someone
Red – play time or recreation

The other option is a trainer, but since they’re not a student trainer they can be one of those who has something else going on than BE THE BEST BE THE BEST. So, Hunter!
Full Name: Hunter Wright
Gender: M
Age: 15
Birthday: 9/16 (Googled most common birthdate.)
Home Region: Kalos
Role: One-off trainer.
Physical Appearance: Light brown skin, short red hair, green eyes. He’s tall and somewhat muscular, has a couple scars from childhood accidents doing risky stuff for fun and will probably get more as time goes on.
Clothing: Hunter loves bright colors. He wears comfortable clothing that’s loose enough for easy movement but not so oversized it might catch on something. He’s pretty active and not too bothered by cold, so he’d be the last person still wearing shorts in the fall and the first to pull them out in the spring. He can also be a bit too optimistic and underestimate how bad the weather will get. He’s not a fan of jewelry.
Relationships: Hunter had a loving family. He was friends with other kids at his school but none he misses desperately.
Friendships: He’s more of a cheerleader in personality and would love to hang out with anyone cool so he could get a front-row seat.
Romance: Hunter’s not currently interested.
Personality: Hunter is friendly and outgoing, and loves exciting stuff like pokemon battles but views it (and most other things) as a game rather than a competition. He wants to do well as a trainer because it means moving on to bigger and bigger battles but isn’t going to be upset that someone else is better than him.
He can be dogged about things he really wants, generally expressed by whining until the other person gives in.
Background: On the day Hunter went out to get his first pokemon, he got there as another trainer was returning the manectric to the local professor for being impossible to handle. Hunter recognized the trainer as having gotten third place in the championship tournament that year and remembered seeing the manectric in battle. It wasn’t the first time he’d seen her, either. She’d shown up in various televised matches, always making for amazing fights. He began pestering the professor to let him have her for his starter and the professor gives him the pokeball to teach him a lesson about not biting off more than you can chew (and about refusing to listen to authority figures), telling him that he can come back and exchange her for a regular starter “if” he has any trouble.
Hunter chased down the guy and pestered him for a battle. He sent out the manectric, who made an exaggerated show of how unimpressed she was with her trainer and lay down as if to nap. The other trainer started laughing, and she then hit the lairon with overheat followed by ice fang, knocking it out.
The other trainer tried to point out how Hunter’s not going to ever get her to listen to him and anyway it doesn’t really count because she was acting on her own, but he’s cut off by Hunter running up to tell the manectric that was so awesome and she’s so cool and he’s been a fan of hers ever since that time she got loose from a dragonite’s hold and froze both its wings and kicked into the skybox.
Career Path: Win the local Pokemon League.
Hobbies: Ill-advised skateboarding, climbing things that shouldn’t be climbed, poking things that shouldn’t be poked, following other people around because they’re going to do similar things and he wants to see.
Skills: Perky, supportive, brave to the point of foolhardy, high pain tolerance that lets him hop back to his feet after getting hurt.
Likes: EXCITEMENT AND ADVENTURE. Doing stuff with others without anyone getting upset and quitting because they weren’t quite as good as someone else. Supporting cool people to be even cooler.
Dislikes: Quiet, books, sitting, people being mean.
Fears: Even when he really should, not really.
Battle Style: Battles are up to his manectric, so his style is to keep an eye out for anything she missed and keep her updated with the extra information. He prefers flashy, explosive battles, which is generally what she provides.
POKÉMON
Pokémon Species/Nickname: Manectric
Gender: F
Personality: Manectric is generally described by those who’ve met her as having the physical ability to be a champion but not the temperament – she’s refused to obey a good dozen trainers by the point Hunter gets her as his starter and she sees no reason to change. She’s smart, she’s experienced, and she thinks quickly on her feet – such a shame! Such a waste of potential!
Level: Not sure of what the standard high level pokemon is. Whatever it is, she’s on the upper end.
Moves: All of the moves. All of them. She seen every TM between her various trainers, she’s gone to move tutors, she’s leveled and leveled and leveled.
Other: Manectric’s one disappointment is that she’d like a really good, threatening name for Hunter to shout whenever she goes out, as she thinks that’d be a great addition to her psychological warfare arsenal. Unfortunately, she has no way of communicating this and even if she expressed the general idea somehow, there’s no way Hunter would be able to come up with anything nearly as bombastic as her own ideas.
She has never done contests but would probably do well there as well once she got the hang of it and if Hunter could do a good job of acting like whatever she was doing was what he planned all along for the crowd.
Pokémon Species/Nickname: Scatterbug
Gender: M
Personality: Timid but friendly and hard working, Scatterbug doesn’t know much of anything about battling. He’s in awe of both Manectric and Hunter.
Level: 3
Moves: Tackle, string shot.
Other: Hunter’s had him for like a week.
Pokémon Species/Nickname: Fletchling
Gender: M
Personality: Extremely self-confident and proud, but doesn’t have the strength to actually back it up yet. Doesn’t even have the experience to know just how much tougher pokemon can be, which was why he thought attacking Manectric was a great idea that’d definitely end in victory for him. Most of his fights have been against wild bug pokemon.
Level: 6
Moves: Quick attack.
Other: Again, caught like a week ago.
How many of these got accepted? So I know which fics to check to see how it goes.
Plan to submit Holloway to more fics, btw. De-aging her was the right decision, nascent villains are adorable. Though adapting her to all these different forms is objectively suboptimal.
I have little idea. Most of them haven’t updated at all, and none that have actually included them. I got a thumbs-up for nuzleaf Katniss on the alien ship, Yushuv with Ho-oh torc, and Silver Scarlet Academy (the author was happy because Yuki wasn’t too grimdark, which was apparently a problem with most of the submissions). Since you heard back from Dice Roll and I didn’t, presumably Raven didn’t make it in, which is disappointing because someone sitting on one of the probably-needed-to-save-the-world Drives out of spite was hilarious to me.
I’d just subscribe to all of them because it’s unlikely most will even update. That’s what I’m doing and so far I’ve only seen four alerts out of all of it.
…and now I want to read a real fic about Kit (and you totally know what I mean when I say a real one.)
Actually thinking I can have Kit cameo in something else (telepathic dragons don’t work but writing does) and kicking around the idea of a story that’s just a bunch of snippets of life when you’re pretending to be human.
They all really deserve a full story, though.
I wonder if this would spur on any fics to be created for this month.
Pretty unlikely – I’m largely just tweaking the characters I already have up, so anyone aware of this could just go get their pick there, while posting a halfway decent story nets you a personalized review during review month.
Why aren’t you revealing the truth behind Kit and the Sheshas? Do you just want to see how people interpret the hints you provide?
Mostly, I don’t want people to interpret the secret pokemonness as the intended story purpose, or that the character demands a major role to showcase that element. 99 times out of 100, they should just be a random trainer.
