Sunday Carapaces Part 4 (16 reviews, 20 stories)

I started on page 50. I ended below page 50. fml fml fml fml fml fml

Break (SS (Felt, Snowman))

You do a really good job differentiating all the Felt in this. They all manage to be horrifying in their own particular way, and it all seems IC for them, particularly the way they act toward each other – they’re disagreeing, there’s occasional objections to things. And their reasoning throughout is chilling.

And oh god Snowman. Was she always this terrible or did she get worse after the exile-breakup?

Happy Ending (SS (Snowman, MC))

This is more two separate fics in one, with the first one a lot better than the second. One of the better of the post-Act murder/suicide set.

Domestic (PM (AR))

Everything about this is so perfect and sweet. Not even fluffy cottoncandy diabetes-inducing sweet, refreshing iced-tea sweet.

Heat (Snowman (Crowbar))

The healthy lower-key Snowman ship! Your Crowbar is delightful as usual.

“This isn’t doing much for moral. Nobody needs to see Sawbuck walking ’round in nothing.”

Morale, though I’m sure one could argue naked Sawbuck wandering about is also immoral on some level.

Better (Snowman (Slick))

She hopes this finally destroys the way they look at her, so when their eyes fix on her, they aren’t looking to her with hope. Snowman has no hope for them. Snowman has no hope for anyone, not even for herself.

D:

Snowman’s mindset throughout this is just fascinating. I’m glad it ends on a somewhat more positive note, though.

Water, Water Everywhere (Trace (Fin))

Alien biology! <3 How does the gang take it when someone they know they drowned shows up again? It’d be funny if stuff like this was where the idea the Felt respawn comes from.

Well (Crowbar (Slick))

He’s usually a pretty patient man, but Slick’s just got a way of getting under his skin. Everything about him is grating, and he’s more like incarnated sandpaper than a man

When he gets out of this he should tell Snowman he finally gets what she sees in him.

I’m now really curious about Itchy and Slick running into each other, since Slick seems about as picky as Itchy but maybe Itchy can be so horrible even Slick can’t think about sex.

Lord’s Right (Jack (BQ))

This is impressively disturbing.

There’s something terribly unsettling about the idea of the baby. I can understand him doing it just because she doesn’t want him to, but what would he do with the kid when it’s born? I doubt he could force Jac to take care of it no matter what threats he made.

Puppet (Droog (Stitch, MC))

Droog is admirably chill. I find it interesting he’s more interested in getting back at Slick for being annoying about a dumb plan than he is in getting back at Stitch. Though I suppose the hat thing may be a two for one deal once Slick figures out it was Stitch. In which case Droog is also remarkably clever and understated in his revenges.

Fever (Snowman (Crowbar, Slick, MC, Felt, Scratch))

Neither of them had actually expected to kill anybody today – scratch that, Slick probably did, but Snowman is certain that Slick spends every day expecting to kill someone

Perfect.

There is a lovely amount of setup and worldbuilding and characterization and banter and consequences in your sex pollen fic!

I wonder what the Midnight Crew thought of having sex with Scratch. That seems like it’d be weird on a whole extra level.

Lucky in Love (Clover (Cans))

“What? No! No, I wouldn’t do that! I mean it is funny and all, you being so big and a gangster too! It’s like a joke, only I guess the punch line is your life!”

I see there’s a limit to just how much Clover’s luck can keep him from screwups.

This is all terribly cute and sweet, even the parts where Clover’s being a dick.

Go Fuck Yourself (Slick (Snowman, Snowman))

“What now?” First-Snowman asks idly, then seems to catch herself, “Rhetorical. Don’t tell me.”
“I wouldn’t think of ruining any surprises,” The second assures the first, and when they grin at each other, Slick suddenly becomes terrified for his dick.

Slick has an impressive amount of optimism if fear’s only occurring to him now.

And god Snowman I can’t believe you’re playing with time loops when you have the universe stuffed in you. She is either the most confident person alive or the doomed timeline clone thing doesn’t apply outside the medium.

“Don’t get in a twist Slick,” She opens his War Chest up and takes out the blueprints, slapping his hands away when he tries to grab them, “You’re not leaving with these.”
“Those are mine, I fucking took them fair and square!”

Snowman’s injustices know no bounds.

Seed (PM (WV))

Consensual sex in the missionary position for the purpose of procreation.

You are depraved.

Practical Joke (Cans (Clover))

Monogamy is for Plebeians (Jack (BQ, BK, FOC))

I think one of the most wonderful things about this pairing is they completely deserve each other. Sure, BQ has been trolling Jack. But it’s Jack! We know he’s probably done five things to deserve that before breakfast, and he pulls off another one just walking out the door afterward.

Also yay, nonangsty!

Part of a Complete Breakfast (Eggs, Biscuits)

Polliwog (Crowbar (Die, Snowman, Doze))

Sawbuck, who had showed up a bloody mess about two minutes before everything went wrong, but with a broken jaw so he couldn’t tell anyone a damn thing

Ah, time powers. Everything, even screwups, become more interesting.

And I applaud how cute you made the tail. Every time you mention it it sounds more adorable.

Big Bang (Slick (Snowman, MOC))

I really like how well-plotted this is. The premise is rather a stretch, but you did a really good job setting it up, and then an even better one carrying it out all the way to a good resolution. And I love how much Snowman really doesn’t give a fuck and thinks the whole life-ruining thing is a petty grudge and he completely deserved it anyway. (I’m curious what the average Dersite thought of this sort of thing, though.)

Control (Crowbar (Stitch, Crowbar))

Competence OT3. They work well together.
