I mentioned last time that we’re coming up to the part of the year where I don’t listen to your opinions! Pokemon X and Y are coming out in October, then November will be carapace fanfic, something desperately needed to try to catch up, a sweet free month for December, then on to January pokefic hatefest.
I decided I’d try to plow through another book within the one month allotted for September. I’m going to do the 27 chapter Fever. Divergent and Delirium also share this surprisingly popular chapter number, but my decision is based on three very important factors:
1) I want to actually finish the series I start
2) I’m absolutely sure Pokemon X or Y will not contain rape
3) I am absolutely sure I will need a guaranteed rape-free breather after doing Fever.
So I mean really, it’s do it now or wait until I’m ready to do another pokemon game.
Assuming I finish Pokemon X/Y on schedule, I’ll do whatever 27 chapter book is winning in the poll for December. Or maybe Animorphs. Or I might just post guest reviews for the whole month, not sure yet. You’ll have to wait all the way until February for things to really go back to me following the poll without caveats.
And then you’ll probably vote for more rape books, because apparently apparently not being a rape book is something rare and precious these days, which means when I’m done with it I’ll ignore you guys again and do another Exalted book before venturing back into the pit of horrors that is your will.
…you know I swore Divergent had over thirty chapters and looking it up I see 39 chapters listed. You’re taking House of Night off the list right? Keeping the rest?
Yeah, I’ve been looking at chapters on and off and I got that one confused with something else.
I think I can now escape House of Night. Can’t edit the current poll, though.
So, you are doing fever. I guess I will send you an internet cookie after every chapter to try and keep you sane. I mean, the first book was already really horrible how-could-anyone-even-think-it-could-be-even-somewhat-halfway-decent bad, and usually sequels of bad books are even worse. Although I will probably still not post a lot, because my lack of mastery in english could also be a danger to your sanity.
Sane poor English is always better than good insane English like the book’s.
The strange amount of YA books with 27 chapters makes me think a lot of the genre is the result of basically focus testing. I blame The Giver for this spate of ill thought out dystopia novels, which is a shame, I like river. Farla have you read the Giver sequels by any chance? I’ve heard very mixed things about them but I’ve only read the last one, Son. Son’s pretty interesting actually, rarely do you see a YA book use the mother-child bond as the plot impetus, from the mother’s perspective. Basically the book is from the perspective of one of the Community’s birth mothers. Imagine if Wither was competent, and Cicely was the viewpoint character basically. It’s flawed but not really bad enough to earn a big hateful read through really. Also it’s just nice seeing a book that recognises that making fourteen year olds give birth is fucked up.
Really? I blame The Hunger Games. The Giver was a long time ago, was more middle grade than young adult, and, while popular as a book among its target audience, wasn’t the sort of cultural phenomenon with crossover appeal that The Hunger Games was.
Well The Giver really introduced the dystopia concept into children’s lit, while it’d appeared before (A Time Of Darkness is a pretty good entry) it’d never achieved the critical acclaim The Giver did. Plus The Giver is fairly popular English class text. Though Hunger Games is probably what really accelerated the trend.
I only ever read the first one. I should check them out sometime.
I wonder if somewhere they focus-grouped it and found kids want under thirty chapters to a novel?
Well I tentatively recommend Son and This Time Of Darkness. Not the Frank Perreti book the H.M Hoover one.
Don’t hate us!
It’s more fun to vote for horrible books you’ll hate!
(…I wonder if we can somehow get Merry Gentry on that list…)
I don’t hate you, I just want you guys to have to suffer too ::::D
And nope already read that other one with the zombie-powers and plot dissolving into endless sex scenes.
