Hm. It’s nice to see some of the mundane background of the running of a pokecenter, but still rather slow paced. I’m still curious how she’ll handle wild pokemon – she seems to be able to avoid them well enough on the route and then she decides to bypass the Mt. Moon, which may be a reasonable decision but isn’t as interesting. Anyone can fall off a ledge, after all.

And hmmmmm. I quite like the idea of knowing how to do things on your own even when there’s easier ways of going about it, and that this kind of journey really is possible is good to know and helps give an idea of the general power/aggressiveness of pokemon in this story, but still, I wish there was more of that pokemon component. It’s kind of shaping up to be camping with newer vs older equipment, and I’m more interested in seeing how someone deals with superpowered magic animals when they don’t have their own for help.
I’m curious what her plan is. The only thing that occurs to me is getting him to help her, and that doesn’t seem to make sense given the rest of everything.
Also, let’s check in with the fallout from my review month!

The part about Oak is actually an error on my part, I changed the plot idea and forgot to go back and edit that part when I was writing it last year. If I ever get back to this story I’ll edit it so the plot makes more sense. Oak was left the egg/vulpix to look after, so he can’t give the pokemon to anyone, but as I said, I forgot to edit that bit so thanks for catching it. |

Anyways. Thank you for your review! I ended up piddling around and doing some research, and it appears that I was part of a large, fandom-wide reviewing project that you did for the month of January or something absurd like that, but I salute you. Apparently you did half a bajillion reviews in the month of January, so even if I disliked your review, I’d honestly have nothing to fault you for.
However, I thought your review was actually quite nice for the mildly pretentious, melodramatic mess that was my story, haha. Thanks. I’m pretty sure that my computer is secretly telling me not to try my hand at fanfiction again for a while (it took my about a day to get it to upload the story in the first place), so I probably won’t be revisiting that story soon, but critiques are always helpful. I wanted to clear some things up, though, in case you still cared (and somehow possessed a photographic memory and are able to recall every sentence of my story, haha).
{[“Vesta?” I asked quizzically. “Roman goddess of the hearth?” It wasn’t the worst nickname for a pet I’d seen… I guess. Even for a larvesta.]
…which already has the word in its official name. It’d probably have been cleverer to use the Greek one with the slightly different name.}
I meant this to come across as a sarcastic comment from our rather dry and unamused narrator. The “…I guess” was supposed to be more of a “Oh, you got me poop for my birthday? That’s so thoughtful of you… I guess .” than anything else. I thought that Nick’s naming his larvesta “Vesta” would be about as acceptable as naming your dog “Og” or “Brodor Retriever”. Originally, I had intended to juxtapose the narrator’s original perception of Nick with her later feelings towards him, but it appears that I was too subtle. Whoops.
{It’s interesting to have such an unrepentantly vicious character}
Oh, damn, I was actually trying to make my narrator into a nervous, regretful wreck by the end of everything. I guess I screwed up hard there. Definitely will revise.
Otherwise, thank you. This story originally wasn’t intended to be in the Pokemon fandom at all, but I was looking for feedback for a new narrative style and couldn’t be bothered to set up my fictionpress account. Speaking of writing style:
{I like the writing style}
Mission accomplished; awwww, yeah.
Thank you muchly for the review, good [s]sir[/s] madame, and have a pleasant day!

It is not hurting anyone how I’m writing and it isn’t like this is an English exam or anything like that. Another thing, in most writing I usually always see the name of a Pokemon written with a capital at the beginning if its name. Plus in the games the name of a Pokemon always has a capital at the beginning of its name too. One last thing I could be writing worse like ”teh” instead of ”the” or the word ”ain’t” so I suggest you find something better to do unless you are going to write a decent letter to me or anyone else suggesting an improvement that isn’t a moan about a persons writing unless it really is bad and unreadable. |

A response to your review at http://www.fanfiction.net/r/8920384/Thanks for your constructive criticism. I’ll take what you said into consideration. But still, the intro doesn’t play a huge part in the story. Also, you were a bit harsh, just saying. I don’t want a reader to pop by, check a review, and say, “Oh, this story sucks!” Because like I said, the main story will be different from this intro. I’ll probably take down the intro for now, so it’ll be “Under maintenance.” I’ll get some chapters of the main story posted first, then fix up the intro. Thanks again for your helpful advice.

For the understanding human speech, again – I’ve never really seen evidence that pokemon couldn’t understand humans, although now I realize that could be due to most pokemon I’ve actually seen being trainers’ pokemon. The paragraphing, yeah – I admit that I used that badly. I’m not sure what I was doing with that, now that I think back. To combine the next two things you mentioned, I never really cleared up what was going on there – he was killing anyone who tried to stop him, but left everyone else alone. That sort of thing does get left out when I don’t actually go over it. I’ll try to avoid that in the future, and see to fixing it in this case. And considering what was happening before he woke up, there is some reason why he would think he was captured. And to answer your final point, I could have worded that better/differently, yes. Thanks, by the way, for the review, and I’ll try to fix what you’ve mentioned in the future. |

I don’t think he was really truly trying to make a deep, thorough, and dark as all hell plot. This is probably just some kind of prologue. I think what he’s trying to do is just make somewhat of an alternate reality if humans just completely though Pokemon were dangerous and needed to be gone. Granted, I think he just added the whole humans and Pokemon in harmony thing as a desperate and failed attempt to make it somewhat tie in with the actual series, as humans and Pokemon live alongside each other. What I’m pretty sure his theme is for the story is more like a survival kind of theme, not a plot about vengeance, so a lot of this background information is somewhat unneeded, and he probably should’ve gotten rid of a portion of it. I say that he might improve in time. I think you should at least read the 2nd chapter, whenever that is going to be published. |

Hello Farla,Abour a month or so ago, you reviewed my story “New Providence”. At the time, it was called “Calvin’s Boatman”. Now, with quite a few more chapters posted, I was wondering if I have lived up to your suggestions for improvement. That is, what your review specified I should change and/or improve upon. I know you specified everything in the review, but sometimes, instructions are incomplete. I just want to be sure. Don’t bother reading the first chapter. I do not edit my chapters after they are posted so I can see how I am improving.
If you aren’t interested, I understand, but if you are, please feel free to be the Grammar Nazi you are, and feel free to ridicule me at every stroke of the pen! (Or, in this case, the click of a keyboard.) If you have any comments, questons, suggestions, or even sarcasm, I’m all ears. Thank you very much for your time. Your review was greatly appreciated. |

Ah yes, it’s nice to be reminded in the off-season that people are still crazy.
Does this mean no carapace reviews though? Busy Easter?
I’m too unforgivably behind to take a day off carapaces.
