Exalted tutorial/story + Starter pick + Next Time On

Let’s end this on a happier note!

This is the most adorable and best written tutorial to ever exist. It’s intended to (try to) introduce people to the infernal workings of Exalted’s combat system, but it’s done so well it’s worth a play for the story too.

Now, about the voting. It bugs me that I’m starting new series faster than I’m finishing old ones, so to address that, next poll will be just sequels. Your desire for me to start on yet another series in Daughter of Smoke and Bone has been noted. Let’s see about getting the existing stuff done.

Animorphs – a hella lot
Beautiful Creatures – 3 more books.
Chemical Garden – 1 more book
Eona – 1 more book
Gemma Doyle – 2 more books
Graceling sorta series – 2 more books
Matched – 1 more book
Unwind – 3 more books.

Exalted novel is also on the list because it’s definitely a thing that’ll happen.

Tomorrow (or the next) pokemon posting! In the meantime, you may make your case for which starter I should pick. Act quickly, you have until I finish transcribing the opening to that point.

I vote froakie. You can get a torchic from one of their promo/event things so there’s a fire type (plus the new pidgey clone will be fire/flying if you really need a fire type and don’t have internet) and… well I dunno if it’s a spoiler or not so I won’t go into details but you can get a good grass type early on.

Froakie looks terrible, but the others are surprisingly less so. I think the fire one looks the best, even though it’s a bit of a vulpix copy. The grass one does look pretty cute, but that probably just means its evolutions will be ugly like in gen IV.

I vote Fennekin, because it looks like a fire starter that won’t become Fire/Fighting, thus breaking that chain. Also, it looks the best of them all.

I chose fennekin for my first playthrough.

I vote Froakie because while it’s the ugliest now it get’s better with evolution, plus you’ve already done fire and grass starters.

Thanks for the link. Will read it.

I’ve sold my GM on the idea of organizing a game of Exalted, so it would be useful.
I’m planning to play Infernal of Fiend caste by the name Sweetgrass Voice. Combining two cool things for the win.

And speaking of Exalted. I’ve found a nice fic. It’s a crossover with Zero No Tsukaima (which is shit on its own, but has a setting with potential), but you don’t need to know anything about it to read the story. The first chapters lack the direction, but later this problem is fixed, and the fic becomes rather epic.

And ooh, are you going to have a hyena Lunar mate?

I’ll check it out! Exalted fic is too thin on the ground.

Eh, we aren’t too thrilled about the system (I prefer lighter stuff when it comes to rules), but we’ll see how it goes. If it is not tolerable, we can convert the setting on FATE Kerberos Club. It should handle godlike characters well enough. Of course, the system has a rather different paradigm, so something will be inevitably lost in conversion, but it should be close enough for government work.

The game is in planning stages, so I didn’t flesh out my character yet. So hyena Lunar mate is possible.

EDIT: and there is always GURPS, of course, if FATE didn’t work out. You can do anything in GURPS. You just sometimes wish you didn’t.

    I also picked fennekin.

In addition, I am thrilled to report that before my first badge, I was able to get my character into jeans, a tee shirt, and a baseball cap! :D All is forgiven, game!

I think you’ll like the next Graceling books better, not that that necessarily makes a better Let’s Read. They improve dramatically in each book. Have you ever met an author who did the “so beautiful, it’s a curse” thing well? In Fire, the next Graceling book, the main character is so gorgeous that men and women basically jump her everywhere she goes. She gets no respect, is constantly fending off attackers, and people can’t stand her.

    1. Farla says:

Well, decent books can just be single posts! I’m not necessarily going to do all of them in depth, I just want them done with somehow so they’re not hanging over my head. I know I hate it when people quit halfway through, especially media that isn’t exactly consumable on its own merits.

I picked Fennekin, even though you can get other fire types early and it’s the longest time till you can get another good water.
