Hmm… Very good points you made. Also, I do like the one about the elf thing. But…
1: My style of writing includes those things that pop up at the beginning of the few paragraphs. Kt helps me seperate them from becoming walls of text, which I am trying to avoid.
2: I am one of the few people that love using OP characters. In my eyes, it is the coolest thing ever. And, I… Have a slight problem with it sometimes. I do agree when it gets out of control, I will try and fix it next chapter.
3: I should’ve elaborated more on how my evil team acts ans show an example of it in the first chapter. Don’t worry, that will be fixed. And, you are correct… Sometimes, poaching and training tends to be called the same thing.
And finally… About Aidan. Yeah, I understand that he is a horrible atrocity. But, he is actaully in fact another OC that a friend of mine wanted to see. I can do a backstory on him, too… If I would have, that would have made things a little more easier. Plus, it would blow the story wide open. Don’t wanna do that too early, am I right?
Other than those 4 points that I stated, I do appreciate the criticism. It is always appreciated. And, I have to ask… Did you like the chapter? I mean… From the looks of it, I guess you did. Hopefully…
I’m sorry, but it is extremely distracting and I really request you avoid it. It makes it look like I’m reading a screenplay rather than a story, which is really jarring.
[I am one of the few people that love using OP characters.]
Do understand that OP characters aren’t inherently bad! It’s valid if you want to write high-power stories. But it’s also important to make sure their powers are still relevant to the conflict; there’s no tension if they can overpower the villains easily, and it’s just distracting if they have a lot of miscellaneous powers that don’t end up mattering.
[Yeah, I understand that he is a horrible atrocity.]
I think maybe I was unclear… I mean what happened to him was an atrocity and it’s good that James feels outraged over it, but it’s not a *unique* atrocity, and elevating it as this dramatic tragedy feels dismissive of other pokemons’ situation to me. It’s sort of like… if a race of people was being systemically enslaved, and you came across one slave and freed them while saying that slavery was wrong, but did not go on to stop the systemic enslavement. Like, his heart’s in the right place, but his priorities seem really skewed, if that makes sense?
This is why I think making this into an original fantasy setting would be easier; with greater control over the setting, you’d be able to give Aiden’s personal situation the proper weight without the baggage of systemic oppression in the background.

The Gothitelle thing- since these are characters in the story, I capitalized what types they are because they don’t have actual names. Just their types. Like how Ash’s Pikachu is just called Pikachu, this Gardevoir is just called Gardevoir. I capitalize because that’s what they do in the games.
For the thumbs, I’m used to writing human characters, so sorry about that.
About the fantasy thing, the story changes in setting very, very quickly and conflict is soon introduced.
All the other errors you pointed out were grammatical errors, and I’ll try not to make any more errors in the story.
Thanks for reviewing!!
That’s confusing, though. What happens if multiple pikachu or gardevoir appear, how do they distinguish one another? While it’s (sort of) reasonable for humans to just call them by their species, if pokemon are social animals they should have their own names separate from what humans nickname them.
[Also, about the Pichu gender thing, I was still debating on whether that Pichu was going to be a recurring character in the story, since I already have the rest of the cast figured out, and may have forgotten to give it a gender. Right now, I’ve decided that it’s male, so if it comes back, it will be a ‘he’.]
This still confuses me… I mean, you don’t call minor human characters “it” until you’ve decided how important they’re going to be, do you?
Right, so why wouldn’t pokemon do the same when referring to other pokemon?
[But the main characters all used to be a Trainer’s Pokémon, and were never given nicknames, so they all find it more simple to just keep going by their species name.]
But if they were caught from the wild, they must have had their own names originally, right? Unless you mean to say they were raised in a breeding facility.

Lucario’s trainer caught him very young, Gardevoir was from an egg, and Gothitelle is… unknown.
Even then, I don’t consider Pokémon giving each other names, apart from nicknames like ‘Lu’ for Lucario or ‘Goth’ for Gothitelle.
Let’s just face it. We disagree on many things in the Pokemon universe. If you don’t like the way I write, then don’t read it. Simple as that.

Hiya
Thanks for the review. Not gonna argue most of the points here since they’re either debates I don’t feel like having or things that I would side with you on, only clarification I want to make is regarding them calling it quits from fighting Giratina immediately when Garchomp went down. The actual thought was merely that, since Garchomp is Cynthia’s best ‘mon, it failing to beat the other dragon was a simple indication that regular means of attack wouldn’t work, further reinforced later down the line when stated that nobody can actually beat legendaries through regular battle. I can get where you’re coming from though so it’s not like I have much more to say on the matter and I can see how adding a simple sentence claiming the fight had been a total blowout could have reinforced their feeling of helplessness. As for Reina, although not stated in this chapter, I do say later down the line that Hydra was her only ‘mon, hence why she’s not trying.
That being said, I’ll correct the minor stuff and update the chapters without the typos soon so yeah. Considering everyone’s been yelling in my pms you’re literally Satan, I find this was rather helpful.
Cheers.

To be honest, my knowledge of the pokemon universe is a hideous amalgamation of the manga, anime, and the game, though the anime less so. I simply chose to use the anime because the movie, Destiny Deoxys, is in this universe alone. Deoxys has no special mentions I can recall in either the games or manga.
Yes, the legendaries are genderless in canon. However, I think you’ve forgotten a very crucial fact; this is a FanFICTION. Of course I’m not gonna follow the canon very closely, since I have the freedom to do as I please.
Writing dialogue is weird, I’ll give you that. Perhaps I don’t understand it fully, but i like to think I can do a fairly decent job.
Also, I was not putting thoughts in quotation marks. That was Diorook the Deoxys actually speaking, but in a way only Ash could hear. Just because they are linked by body does not mean they linked by mind, so they still have to speak to one another. At least, this is true in Ash’s case. As a psychic-type, Diorook is able to pick the thoughts out of Ash’s mind. Whether this happens often is left up to how I feel at a given moment.
Seriously though, thanks for reviewing this. It’s always nice to have hard proof that someone’s reading the stuff I write, and the fact that you’re even analyzing it is pretty cool. Keep up the hard work!

Okay, but why? Artistic license is a valid thing, but it should be invoked for a reason. Color outside the lines, yes, but do so because you’re drawing a new picture, not because you’re scribble-checking if the ballpoint pen still has ink.
I’ve read a good chunk of the beginning of the writing guide, and I must say, I’m impressed with Farla’s dedication, as well as their ability to easily explain these concepts. You were correct in saying this was more comprehensible version, and I’ll definitely be trying to incorporate this in my future writing. Of course, I may forget, but that’s mainly because I’ve fried my brain with extensive electronic use over the years, and it doesn’t work properly anymore. This won’t show up in any pieces I’ve started writing prior to this conversation, because that means going back and correcting my errors. I’ve already said, in one of my stories, that I’ll no longer be beta-reading my works, because it’s just so. Much. Work. But new stuff will look a bit better.
Thanks for the advice! :D

Alright buddy. Listen here. I didn’t write a Fanfiction to be criticized. Yes I made several errors in the Grammer department and used things you didn’t find appropriate but that doesn’t mean you get to shit on my writing. I say you and all your friends get a life that doesn’t involve criticizing new writers or any people just trying to write a quick short story or series of stories.
——————–
Wolf StrifeThe way you review really irks me. You’re too critical and it gets on my nerves. I know you’re trying to help, but the way you go about it is not helping. The word “Pokemon” is Trademarked by the way. So it can be capitalized. It shows respect for the show and the creatures that are Pokemon. If you are going to review, say something along the lines of “I can help you critique your work if you want my advice or beta read for you if you want me to?” or something along those lines. It’s as simple as that. There is no need for a critical analysis like the ones you give. Don’t be pressuring like you are.
Sincerely,
Wolf Strife
Is the word “trademarked” also trademarked?
Your argument was debunked years ago. Go to https://www.fanfiction.net/topic/11834/55376155/1/Capitalization-Thread instead of wasting my time.
[You’re too critical and it gets on my nerves.]
So you want me to stop a successful venture that multiple people find very helpful because you, personally, don’t like it? Sorry, but I’m going to keep doing what works instead of satisfying the whims of some random person.
If you can tell me, specifically, what I can do different to improve my reviews, I’m all ears. If you can’t, you’re wasting everyone’s time. Why don’t you try reviewing a bit yourself so you can show me how it’s done.
I’m not telling you to specifically how to write your reviews, but to shorten them where it’s not sounding obnoxious.“Obnoxious” is a subjective term and therefore useless to me; obviously, I don’t believe my reviews are obnoxious. You will need to pinpoint exactly what the problem is. Tell me, specifically, how I can change the reviews to meet your standards.
You really missed my point, Hypocrite.
Maybe you never took my advice and got blasted for it? Maybe the fact that a lot of authors who were just starting out, QUIT because of you. Ever wonder why your stories have so little reviews on here? No? You egotistical brat.
Learn to be not so obnoxious. Learn to be nice. Get rid of your haughtily attitude of yours and take a good look at yourself. I didn’t respond back all those years ago because, maybe, just maybe you would realize that you are by no means a professional writer, you are on a fanfiction website. Which is full of people just trying to write their own stories.
Get the hell off your high horse. This is not me telling you, asking you, or, by the gods, demanding you to do anything. This is advice. I know you’ll most likely put this on your little Dragon Quill website, but on the off chance you don’t, bravo. You actually took the high road for once.
Because I work. I don’t have time to be on here all the time. That’s why I responded now.
“If you are going to review, say something along the lines of “I can help you critique your work if you want my advice or beta read for you if you want me to?” or something along those lines. It’s as simple as that. There is no need for a critical analysis like the ones you give. Don’t be pressuring like you are.”
I thought this was addressed with the preamble, though. PMing everyone and waiting for a response is just really inefficient if that’s what the person is talking about. But holy crap, are people getting caught up on the weirdest things! I just told this one person that their story was corrupted, then they thanked me for letting them know and that they’d let me know when it was re-uploaded. I responded, letting them know, even, that if they wanted a review that mine were constructive criticism reviews, not vague praise stuff.
Even if we DO private message people with a warning, we’d still get blocked and everything. It’s not even about that courtesy, it’s about not wanting to see anything critical at all, apparently. And now there’s this one user named KnightLawn going around posting the vaguest of praises to everyone they possibly can — that’s genuine, I’m sure. Way to invalidate praise by giving it to literally anything there, mate. That’s the exact opposite of helpful. If everyone hears “OMG GREATTT !!!1!!1” then if someone actually read the damn thing and liked it, someone might not even believe them. We are experiencing compliment inflation. That’s a thing, apparently.
Most frustrating. And I was prevented from posting on a story about Mewtwo because they’d blocked me beforehand. Well, it’s their loss, but it’s really aggravating to spend so much time on a review only to find that they’ve bought into the hivemind conspiracy. When we’re all rich and famous, I want that to be the title of the book that records this madness: “The Hivemind Conspiracy, book one: Misguided Crusade.”
Compliment inflation. Note to self, stop complimenting, start bitching and criticising, because right now, being critical is more important than being nice.
You should do what I do and check if you can send a PM message. That’ll tell you if you’re already blocked, and sometimes you learn interesting things from the profiles.
I normally do that, but I goofed and forgot to this time. Sometimes I’m ninja’d and I get blocked in the time it takes to finish a review, but most of the time I do the PM test.
Urgh, and now Dragon’s Blaze is out on her crusade again as Fire4Heaven. She uses the alert from her subscription to my forum thread as a trigger to do that, I’m near-absolutely sure. It makes me want for another damn thread, but then the same freaking thing would happen over there.
Gah, she aggravates me.
I thought she was banned from the forum?
I think she posted a while back, which might give her alerts to new posts, even if she can’t actually post anything new. There’s certainly a startling correlation to whenever I make a review there and when she starts spamming again. Sometimes as early as four minutes after I post she begins the crusade again and specifically mentioned me by name once, citing the end of my inactivity. I’m pretty sure she gets the email notification, goes to the forum, follows the link I provide for data reasons, and starts from there, warning new users about the terrible scourge that is St Elmo’s Fire and friends.
It’s honestly made me want to not provide links, but we have to for obvious record reasons.
I never get email notifs from the threads I’m subscribed to, so maybe not. She might just have an alt observing the thread and when you update, she rolls from there.
I wish I had as much free time as her. To have enough time to spam everyone saying “Block this person, they are mean” in the day would be wonderful.
The speed at which she responds makes me suspicious, but I suppose it’s possible that she really is that obsessed enough to refresh a page in an absurd frequency.
Given that I don’t post public records of my reviews at present and I still get counter-reviews very quickly after posting, I think it’s more likely to be just her obsessively stalking any new stories that have been published.
That does seem to be the case, since the warnings get posted even when there’s a lull in reviews.
The level of obsessiveness at play here is obscene. Does she really have nothing better to do than refresh a page ad infinitum? I could understand being alerted to something, but this is just insane. I’m going to post a review and see if it triggers a Blaze review in the next thirty minutes just as an experiment, but if this really is the case, I’d rather just post one by one so I don’t lose them.
@Talarc, Just curious, but why not post them publically? There are advantages to doing so for hate deflection and people can be aided by applicable advice if they happen across a review that goes over similar stuff to their story.
Now I’m wondering if she rigged up a bot to do it. Can bots even work with FFN?
Possibly. It took her 36 minutes after I posted the review to counter-review and say that the person blocked me via a review on The Phantom Rebellion, which did not actually happen at the time of her sending that review.
Then no, it’s just her. A bot would’ve responded much faster than that. Scratch that theory.
I don’t know – the Fire4Heaven warning reviews could still be a bot, given how cookie-cutter they are. I doubt that the counter reviews are though.
@The Reeds of Enki, I don’t have my own forum thread like you! :P
I suppose I could just post in the general NaRe thread whenever I’ve gathered up a batch though…
@Talarc, I’m sure Farla would be willing to set you up with one. You’ve been at this for a lot longer than I have, I think, and they post their reviews here for data purposes. It just makes sense for everyone who reviews here to do the same. It’d be convenient to have them all in places that are easily accessible by both the public and by us.
The PMs thing is an issue, as I’d rather that not be on a FF forum, but just the reviews bit might be good enough, even if it’s also useful to have PMs out there as well. I can prove that the person “B”/Clearly-Not-Blaze was lying when they said the person I had reviewed had blocked me.
Every bit helps against the hatedom, which can help in more people being more inclined to accept help instead of blocking us or freaking out. Maybe PM her about it?
Holy crap, nope, that person did actually block me now. How the unholy fuck did Istwill’s message appear more convincing that I was the troll instead of her? It’s obvious that she didn’t even read the damn story, she even slipped up and agreed with me once by accident.
And this is a person who says this on their profile page: ” Feel free to criticize, as that’s the only way I can improve, apart from random ideas popping up. Unfortunately, very few people do, so I generally rely on the latter.”
Well gee, Daniel (on profile also), maybe people don’t give criticism because you block them after doing so.
Nah. Fire doesn’t post fast enough to be a bot. A bot would post about two minutes after the story went up and would get every story. Fire misses a few stories, so it’s an obsessed person.
@TheReedsofEniki could be a situation like mine was initially where I blocked Elmo just so that Blaze and her mates would get off my ass about it.
I actually considered asking for my own thread around the time that you got your thread, but decided against – I suppose I felt like there wasn’t as much of a need since my reviews are much more similar to Elmo’s and the whole idea of your thread was to compare methods. I don’t mind posting my reviews though, so if you think it would help then I’ll send Farla a PM asking for one!
I agree with Ghost that they could have blocked you to escape the drama. Blaze already admitted to me that she essentially strong-armed another user into blocking me after they posted a review supporting me back in March, so it wouldn’t surprise me.
I think that this is part of Blaze’s modus operandi: start by sending PM warnings as either Dragon’s Blaze or lstwill56, followed by Fire4Heaven giving out warning reviews if that doesn’t work. I’ve come across several authors who have me blocked despite not having any warning reviews on their work, so I’m assuming that they were contacted by PM and listened to her. If that doesn’t work, then she counter-reviews any reviews we post, normally as lstwill56, but sometimes as Dragon’s Blaze. I’ve sometimes seen these counter reviews mention having PMed the authors beforehand as well. It’s interesting looking at the patterns, even if it’s frustrating that she’s still at it. Though I must admit that their counter-reviews of your reviews always look particularly unhinged – they really are scaping the barrel if they have to claim that your suggested rewrites are plagiarism!
Interestingly, the user who blocked you hasn’t blocked me (at time of writing), so it could have been just a knee-jerk reaction. I did notice that they have another story that was reviewed by Elmo back in December, so I tracked down their response to that review, if you’re interested in reading it.
@ Ghost and Talarc, yeah I think you might be right. I don’t agree with it, but if they think continued harassment of their stories is at stake, I can understand why they’d block someone who is just giving concrit. Dragon’s Blaze annoys the hell out of me. It would be one thing if she just pestered me, but no, she has to go after everyone we review and give them piss-poor advice that could actually seriously hurt someone’s writing, should they take her advice in a fit of wounded ego.
@Talarc, I’d say go for it. Farla and Elmo post reviews, I post reviews, it’s pretty much just a thing that’s done now. It’s something to take pride in, too, having a thread where you post them in. A vanity, sure, but I think I/we’re all allotted that much, given that we are spending our free time helping people out. You’ve been at this longer than I have, I’d say you deserve one, but it is ultimately up to Farla. I have no idea why she’d say no, though– having things up in a neat and organized manner can only be helpful and, again, people can go there for applicable advice. I don’t really see how it could be anything other than helpful, honestly.
Plus, more people can see that it’s not just one or two crazy people posting reviews! Maybe people might be influenced to join a positive bandwagon effect, not that I’m advocating for doing something just because others are doing it. But if people see that it’s not just Farla’s forum and one person’s thread posting reviews, it might help. I actually think it would help if St Elmo’s Fire put reviews there as well, as most people are too lazy to look into Dragon Quill, but his and Farla’s name are pretty synonymous to the bulk of the archive by now, so I don’t know if that would make a difference after all.
So three threads of reviews for people to look over. That would probably help. I’ll keep swinging around the fandom doing what I can. Won’t be an NARE type review but I’ll keep helping out where I can since it might get the snowball rolling a bit.
Mm, yeah! If everyone here who did reviews had their own forum thread, it would give the impression of more than just one or two crazies. It might even inspire more reviewers.
The problem is this isn’t just about Blaze anymore. She’s contacted enough authors and convinced them of this group’s evil that they’re spreading PM warnings on their own. I first heard about you guys via an author I previously reviewed, who heard about it from another author who spoke to Blaze directly.
Interestingly enough, I hadn’t heard of you guys AT ALL before then, and I’ve been writing Pokemon fanfiction for over five years. Are there some types of stories you guys don’t review, or did I just get skipped by chance all this time? I’m a little curious.
Farla hasn’t been reviewing consistently for a long time and skips romance when she does. I skip all anime and PMD fic.
On the bright side, Blaze has started picking a fight with Critics United now, so her friends might ease off us for a bit. :p
Yesterday someone went to court on you guys after you spammed their little brothers email.
The case is over Farla now owes him 4,500 dollies and has a six month prohibition. Failure to avid by it will net her six years in jail.
It’ over we won.
LOL. Do you really think we’re stupid? Really? Try harder.
Ohmygod this is hilarious on so many ways
Farla owes a random person 4500 shoes? What an odd thing for a court to order someone to give to someone else.
Six month prohibition from what? Drinking? Eating pizza? If a court don’t specify, how we supposed to know? Come on, dude. If you are gonn try for a frivolous lawsuit at least be realistic.
Also, isn’t it illegal to lie about something like that…?
‘Dollies’ is what I’m going to call all money from now on.
New currency:
@Illhousen, that actually made me laugh. Yes, the dollar is collapsing, people. Forget gold, dolls are now the standard currency. Buy now!
On the bright side, Blaze has started picking a fight with Critics United now, so her friends might ease off us for a bit. :p
I’m going to guess it happened because one of those fellows gave her a notice about non-story chapters not being allowed.
*checks*
Well, now seems that I was right. And she replied within the hour! Not wise on her part to get the CU on her. I’ve seen some well-known and highly reviewed stories get taken down with possible help from the CU which at the point was known as “The Literate Union” (LU) although this was back in 2010 and things have changed, but it was quite… a thing and proof that popularity won’t save you.
And considering Blaze decided to post and then get herself perma-banned may or may not make it worse for her. Again, what an over-inflated ego can do is frightening.
And of course, everything goes to shit when I say that. Me and my big mouth.
I just looked over CU for the first time. Concerning Blaze, could you elaborate as to where said feud is going down?
Concerning CU as a whole… I’m a little disturbed, I’m not gonna lie. There’s a metric fuckton of subtle homophobia in there and it’s frankly a little disturbing. Also, despite what they say, they do actually appear to work with the intent of getting stories deleted. “Delete this story or else it’s not compliant” leaves very little wiggle room for interpretation.
People may have legitimate complaints about some things done here amidst a sea of illegitimate ones, but at least we’ve never acted with the intention of removing stories, to my knowledge. St Elmo’s Fire routinely dissuades such actions. It might happen, but never because we encourage it. I’m frankly a bit disturbed right now.
I see mentions of the Bible in CU tagged posts as well. Combine that with the not-very-subtle homophobia, I’m going to take a wild guess and say they’re affiliated with a specific religion. Yeesh.
Their religion is the site rules. You may think I am exaggerating, but I am not. It’s best to just ignore them.
It’s not much of a “fight” per se. I looked at it myself and all that happened was that one user suggested her to refrain from posting non-story author’s notes on the story and she replied with a review on her own story that she would ignore everyone from CU and then posted on the forum that she’d block every one of them, and then gave a revenge review to the review telling him/her to leave he rthe f*** alone.
That’s pretty much it. Not much of a fight. Last time I looked at CU was when it was known as the LU. Time flies. Thinking further on it, not much will happen.
It aggravates me that I have to be affiliated with those kinds of Christians in any way, shape, or form. It’s also ridiculously bad form to model a religion’s rules and regulations for what should be a secular site. Aggravated sigh.
What can you do. I really was tempted to question them about certain things, but all that would have amounted to would be giving them grief and also maybe painting a target on the Farla group of reviewers. That’s still highly incentivizing, that page and what it stands for.
You already have one group after ya. Let’s NOT get another one after you.
I feel bad for that random who got sucked up into the mess. One NaRe style review and he’s suddenly a part of the group.
I won’t get into a brouhaha with them, don’t worry, even if they are truly irksome. I need to focus my attention on stuff on this end, with my book and the time I get to review for NOT CU. I’d really rather even more of my time get sucked up into inane arguments. I appreciate the concern, though, @Ghost.
I’d really rather even more of my time not get sucked up into inane arguments*
I wish you could still edit past a certain point.
Yeah well, you are going to. Blaze cancelled her story and named you as one of the trolls who’ve been been harassing her.
It would appear that the fallout has already hit a la one Sir Chaos Omega! Likely someone misguided, nothing seriously obstructive, I think.
Which court was that and how do they process cases so quickly. (I’d say maybe they should share their secrets with the rest of the judicial system, but it sounds like a huge part of their method is ignoring due process for the defendant, which we don’t need more of.)
Try not posting to the forum until you’re done with a batch.
FFN mods are active as they wiped a user who was trolling the Axis Powers fandom with spam stories thanks to Critics United reporting them. I’m guessing they won’t see Blaze or Elmo as a problem unless they actively spam the Pokémon fandom with stories that break the rules.
So I guess all we can do is keep chugging along.
@St Elmo’s Fire, that is a good idea. I think I’ll do that instead of posting one by one.
[I didn’t write a Fanfiction to be criticized.]
If the author didn’t want criticism, they should have said that in the story or on their profile (I personally checked this guy out and he didn’t do either!). Besides, they are posting their stories on a website where anyone can say almost anything. Things like this NEED to be specified because no one can read minds. If the author didn’t go the extra step to alert his readers, then I’m afraid it’s on him.
[Get the hell off your high horse. This is not me telling you, asking you, or, by the gods, demanding you to do anything. This is advice.]
I can’t help but roll my eyes when authors make themselves look like fools in the same exact paragraph. Wolf Strife, you ARE demanding something out of Elmo. “Get off your high horse” is typically a demand made when you are angry at someone. Not to mention, the subject of your discussion is “Do me a favor and stop!” That’s a demand right there too. Do you really expect us to believe you’re trying to give helpful advice if you call Elmo a hypocrite in the previous message?
You wanted to give advice? You should have answered Elmo’s question at the very beginning when he asked you about what specific parts of his reviews needed change or improvement. At least then there would have been something gotten out of it.
I highly doubt Wolf Strife will actually come all the way here to see this, but I just had to let this out.
Wolf Strife appears to have deleted his Pokemon story. The only one he has left is from 2014, with no reviews from Saint.
It’ll get reuploaded. He’s probably trying to remove Elmo’s review.
