A lot of stories that don’t really go anywhere today. (more…)

NaReWriMo 2021 Day 3
‘Why is everyone writing thoughts like this? Who popularized it and how can I kill them?’
NaReWriMo Day 4
Bunch of trainerfic. One of those where trainers are starting late and there’s almost none of them because what better reaction to criminals having pokemon than to ensure everyone else remains easy pickings, one of those where worried parents are sure the best way to protect their kid is to make sure they definitely don’t let the kid get a pokemon early and train it up first, a lot of not actually caring at all about the pokemon themselves and not actually going anywhere much with the the first chapter. Also one where it’s someone dropped into the forest and killing a pokemon to get another pokemon on their side and one where the isekai’d person gets dropped into Lillie.
NaReWriMo Day 5
A PMD fic that actually seems to be doing something unusual, and not just by starting the human-enters-game plot at a different point. Incompetent trainers. Questionable worldbuilding. One of those stories where the evil organization is kidnapping people to make them beautiful furries with superpowers, oh no, such a cruel fate.

NaReWriMo Day 6
A typical trainerfic with a typical shiny, a sort of out of focus fic revolving around comforting a character, a superhero sort of story set in the regular world with a pokemon falling in, a story featuring Kyurem that’s doing its absolute best to not be about Kyurem, and what appears to be setup for a sue to get Mewtwo.
NaReWriMo Day 7
Isekai. An Alola run of the games with an adult character where that doesn’t change anything and people still say the same lines.
NaReWriMo 2021 Day 8
A lot of stuff that really glances in the direction of saying pokemon are friends who matter, then utterly fails to bring that across. Also where we learn that physical beauty means not looking like a thief, even if you’re in thieving clothes.
NaReWriMo Day 9
Some interesting stuff and not just from people I already know! Also, the fanfic contest and scoring continues.
Pokeween Reviews 2021
Actually had an obligatory review, then did the Supernatural as well as Horror subsections because both were pretty quick. (more…)
NaRe 2022, Day 1 (8 + 1)
The starting batch has a surprising bunch of unusually detailed, narration-heavy non-new trainer stories with unusually terrible grammar. Also, bonus other review.
NaRe 2022 Day 2 (11+1)
Lot of pacing issues with a dash of why are you saying this is a canon character when you’ve removed the thing about the character that’d make them interesting in the AU. (more…)
NaRe 2022 Day 3 (13 +1)
More “why are you saying this is the same character” issues, as usual, and a genre-aware isekai that’s probably is just a usual one but could possibly be a very stealth meta deconstruction of typical isekai instead. Plus an earnest attempt at a science-of-pokemon thing that’s very rough.
NaRe 2022 Day 4 (12 +1)
Quite a strange collection this time, including platonic? tickling where Ash considers Kukui his father, a story that was 90% worldbuilding setup by someone who didn’t actually seem to have any interest in the world, a scientist who didn’t know how to science, and a character from our world who tells Oak exactly that.
NaRe2022 Day 5 (12)
We continue to not have any standard OT fic! However, there is someone being roughly as incompetent, overpowered and poorly plotted but as a baker for some reason.
NaRe2022 Day 6 (18+1)
A lot of stuff centered around Ash and the early season, with even the one that’s about Ash starting in Kalos and the inevitable betrayal-Ash fic both involved emphasis on how many seasons of adventures he’s already had. Possibly the modern accessibility of shows means that the newest fans coming in are now watching from the start again.
Also, yet another quirky character specializing in something else entirely and who clearly had no interest in pokemon battling somehow changing their mind and becoming a great trainer.
