When last we left off Dresdening, Harry’s previous fridged girlfriend, Elaine, turned up apparently alive! And now this, like her and some dude, returns from the dead. (more…)
Trash Planet

Trash Planet is a game by the creator of HELLBOUND. It’s a very different game, taking a hard shift into post-apocalyptic science fiction and more difficult, resource-management gameplay. Much like HELLBOUND, I enjoyed a lot of it, but the gameplay was very janky and ran into a lot of standard RPG design pitfalls.
Games for Racial Justice and Equality (Part 3)
N through P. I got distracted splitting my time with my Christmas games, so this is shorter than the previous posts. Some interesting RPGs in this one.
HEARTBEAT

I heard a lot of people praising this game as a unique twist on the jRPG formula with a lot of UnderTale inspiration and great female characters. Then I heard that the developers were TERFs, which just made me even more curious while also killing my desire to give these people any money. So I pirated it.
The game is. Bad. So, so bad. Trying to understand it sends me into a brain-killing fever. But let’s try.
NaReWriMo Day 9
Some interesting stuff and not just from people I already know! Also, the fanfic contest and scoring continues.
Digimon World Re:Digitize Decode
So, a while back I reviewed Digimon World Re:Digitize. The fan translation for the 3DS port, “Decode”, was recently finished. I decided to give it a whirl at the behest of the Digimon community’s insistence that its new features fixed all my complaints about Re:Digitize.
In general, I found it an improvement — it follows up on a lot of dropped plot threads from the original, adds lots more NPC dialogue with genuinely helpful tips, and adds several new side quests that provide useful features. But it still doesn’t fix any of the fundamental problems I had with the original.
NaReWriMo 2021 Day 8
A lot of stuff that really glances in the direction of saying pokemon are friends who matter, then utterly fails to bring that across. Also where we learn that physical beauty means not looking like a thief, even if you’re in thieving clothes.
NaReWriMo Day 7
Isekai. An Alola run of the games with an adult character where that doesn’t change anything and people still say the same lines.
NaReWriMo Day 6
A typical trainerfic with a typical shiny, a sort of out of focus fic revolving around comforting a character, a superhero sort of story set in the regular world with a pokemon falling in, a story featuring Kyurem that’s doing its absolute best to not be about Kyurem, and what appears to be setup for a sue to get Mewtwo.
NaReWriMo Day 5
A PMD fic that actually seems to be doing something unusual, and not just by starting the human-enters-game plot at a different point. Incompetent trainers. Questionable worldbuilding. One of those stories where the evil organization is kidnapping people to make them beautiful furries with superpowers, oh no, such a cruel fate.

NaReWriMo Day 4
Bunch of trainerfic. One of those where trainers are starting late and there’s almost none of them because what better reaction to criminals having pokemon than to ensure everyone else remains easy pickings, one of those where worried parents are sure the best way to protect their kid is to make sure they definitely don’t let the kid get a pokemon early and train it up first, a lot of not actually caring at all about the pokemon themselves and not actually going anywhere much with the the first chapter. Also one where it’s someone dropped into the forest and killing a pokemon to get another pokemon on their side and one where the isekai’d person gets dropped into Lillie.
NaReWriMo 2021 Day 3
‘Why is everyone writing thoughts like this? Who popularized it and how can I kill them?’
NaReWriMo 2021 Day 2
A lot of stories that don’t really go anywhere today. (more…)
NaReWriMo 2021 – Day 1 (17)
Ah, January. I was feeling lazy and I was pretty sure the fic output would be low, so I let it build up. This covers January 1st-2nd. Some isekai, some no-pokemon AUs, an actual canon divergence fic with Jessie and James, an otherwise decently written fic that for some reason wanted videogame key item mechanics included.
Ides of January
So, this summer I took part in a fanfic game where people pretended to be other people, and I finally went back to review the last fics because it’s that time of year.
